He's a little behind the pace that saw him rack up 29 points in 40 games last year, a campaign that was shortened by a long-term injury absence.

Capitals' Dylan Strome: Gathers helper in loss
Strome picked up an assist and three shots on goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights.
Strome snapped a four-game point drought when he set up Tom Wilson's third-period tally. The Capitals have scored just nine times over the last five games, so it's not unusual that Strome's been affected by the team's struggles. The 26-year-old center has been one of the better forwards on the roster with eight goals, three helpers, 41 shots on net and a plus-2 rating through 21 contests overall.

Wilson scored a goal on two shots, added two PIM and logged two hits in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights.
Wilson scored with 3:14 left in the game to break up Logan Thompson's shutout bid. With four goals over his last two games, Wilson has found his shot during the Capitals' road trip out west. He's also been on the top line consistently in recent games, which helps his chances to produce offense. The heavy-hitting winger is up to eight goals, five assists, 62 shots on net, 59 hits, 45 PIM and a minus-5 rating through 21 appearances.

Capitals' Darcy Kuemper: Little help in loss
Kuemper stopped 32 of 35 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Kuemper started consecutive games for the first time since a three-game stretch from Oct. 27-Nov. 2. He did alright but received no goal support until Tom Wilson tallied with 3:14 left in the third period. Kuemper's gone 2-2-0 with 12 goals allowed over his last four outings. The plainly average stretch has him down to 5-5-2 with a 3.04 GAA and an .894 save percentage through 12 starts this season. The Capitals' road trip ends Monday in Arizona, and Kuemper is likely to start if Charlie Lindgren has not recovered from the illness that kept him from suiting up Saturday.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Dealing with illness
Lindgren is dealing with an illness and will consequently miss Saturday's road game against Vegas, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports.
Lindgren has a 5-2-0 record, 2.30 GAA and .934 save percentage in seven contests this season. Darcy Kuemper is expected to face the Golden Knights. Hunter Shepard, who was summoned from AHL Hershey, is penciled in as the backup goaltender, though he didn't arrive in time for the pregame warmups.

Shepard was called up from AHL Hershey on Saturday.
Shepard has a 2.66 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 outings with Hershey this year. He also has a 2-0-0 record, 2.50 GAA and .915 save percentage in two contests with Washington. Darcy Kuemper is expected to start in Saturday's road game against Vegas, but Shepard could suit up as the backup goalie after Charlie Lindgren missed the morning skate for maintenance reasons.

Sandin had been held off the scoresheet in five straight games entering Thursday. He ended the slump by setting up Nic Dowd's first-period tally. Sandin was a popular breakout candidate at the start of the year, but he's fallen flat with five helpers, 27 shots on net, 44 blocked shots, 18 hits and a plus-4 rating over 20 outings this season. While the offense isn't all there yet, he's still in a top-four role.

Carlson helped out on two of Tom Wilson's three goals in the contest. Over the last eight games, Carlson has managed six helpers and a plus-7 rating. The 33-year-old defenseman hasn't been all that negatively affected by the Capitals' sluggish offense this season -- he's up to 13 points, 44 shots on net, 48 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 20 appearances.

Ovechkin notched two power-play assists, five shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Ducks.
Ovechkin set up two Tom Wilson power-play markers, with the latter of those goals standing as the game-winner. Prior to Thursday, Ovechkin had gone four games without a point. The 38-year-old winger is at a modest five tallies and nine assists through 20 contests this season. He's added 77 shots on net, 42 hits and a minus-1 rating. It's unlikely Ovechkin shoots a meager 6.5 percent all season, but it's also possible his age is starting to catch up to him.

The winger has three points over his last two contests, getting his offense back on track after struggling over four games following his return from an ear injury. He should be able to maintain a middle-six role as long as his offense is steady.

Wilson recorded a hat trick on seven shots and added four PIM in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Ducks.
Wilson celebrated his 700th career game in style with his first career hat trick. Two of his goals in the contest came on the power play. While he was limited to five tallies and two assists over 12 contests in November, this effort was an encouraging sign for Wilson's offense going forward. The power winger has seven goals, 12 points, 60 shots on net, 57 hits, 43 PIM and a minus-4 rating through 20 outings this season.

Capitals' Darcy Kuemper: Escapes with win
Kuemper stopped 28 of 32 shots in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Ducks.
Kuemper wasn't at his best, allowing two goals early in the first period and another pair over the last 10 minutes of the game. The Capitals were just a bit better than the Ducks, led by Tom Wilson's first career hat trick. Kuemper got into just five games in November, going 2-2-1 with 16 goals allowed on 128 shots. For the season, the 33-year-old is at 5-4-2 with a 3.04 GAA and an .892 save percentage over 11 games. With Kuemper returning just okay results so far and Charlie Lindgren playing well, the Capitals' crease is starting to look more like a timeshare.

Capitals' Darcy Kuemper: Slated to start Thursday
Kuemper is expected to start on the road against Anaheim on Thursday.
Kuemper has a 4-4-2 record, 2.95 GAA and .894 save percentage in 10 contests this season. He saved 21 of 23 shots in his last start against San Jose on Monday but didn't get much offensive support and consequently suffered a 2-1 loss. Anaheim ranks 28th offensively this campaign with 2.68 goals per game, so this should be a plus matchup for Kuemper.
