Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Locked up for eight years
Chychrun (hand/wrist) inked an eight-year, $72 million contract extension with the Capitals on Tuesday.
Chychrun's new deal will begin with the 2025-26 campaign and run through 2032-33. He has 18 goals, 43 points, 46 PIM, 47 hits and 79 blocks in 65 appearances with Washington this campaign. This is the 26-year-old's second straight campaign with at least 40 points and the third time he's hit that milestone in his career. Chychrun is getting a big raise compared to his current $4.6 million cap hit, but he should serve in a top-four capacity for the Capitals throughout the life of his new contract. In the short term, Chychrun is questionable for Tuesday's game against Winnipeg after sustaining a laceration to his hand/wrist area during Saturday's 6-3 win over Florida.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Dealing with laceration
Chychrun was cut by a skate in his hand/wrist area during Saturday's game against Florida and is considered questionable for Tuesday's game in Winnipeg, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Although head coach Spencer Carbery said that Chychrun got lucky overall during Saturday's incident, he also described the 26-year-old's laceration as a "significant" cut. It's encouraging that Chychrun will travel with the team ahead of Tuesday's matchup, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to play. If he doesn't get the green light, Alexander Alexeyev and Dylan McIlrath are candidates to take his place in the lineup.

He has seven points and his last 10 games and is hot at the right time with the fantasy playoffs upon us. Ovechkin dished out two assists and fired five shots on net in Saturday's 6-3 win against the Panthers.
While Ovechkin's chase of Wayne Gretzky's goal record has been at the forefront of the NHL, it's easy to forget the strong impact he can make as a playmaker. Ovechkin's two helpers were on goals scored across a five-minute span early in the second period. The 39-year-old superstar is up to 24 assists, 59 points and 200 shots on goal in just 54 appearances this season. He should finish the campaign above a point-per-game pace after missing time with a broken fibula. Ovechkin has 25 points over the last 20 games and will remain highly motivated down the stretch as he chases Gretzky's goal record, which should help Ovechkin produce plenty of fantasy value.
