Top Flames News

  • Flames' John Beecher: Snagged off waivers

Beecher was claimed off waivers by the Flames on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Beecher is coming off an upper-body injury, which the Bruins may have believed would disuade teams from putting in a claim. Instead of heading to AHL Providence, the 24-year-old center will be shipping off to Calgary, where he figures to slot into a bottom-six role. With Beecher in the fold, the Flames will likely return Sam Morton to AHL Calgary.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Starting in Chicago

Wolf will defend the road net against the Blackhawks on Tuesday, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Wolf is coming off a 23-save effort in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg. He has a 5-10-2 record with one shutout, a 3.01 GAA and an .896 save percentage across 17 appearances this season. Chicago is tied for sixth in the league with 3.28 goals per game this campaign.

  • Flames' Zayne Parekh: Lands on IR

Parekh (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Parekh is currently week-to-week, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him pop up on injured reserve. Considering the blueliner has featured in just two of the Flames' last nine outings, his continued absence is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy managers -- especially considering he has managed a single point in 11 games when healthy.

  • Flames' Samuel Honzek: Placed on injured reserve

Honzek (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Honzek suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's game against Winnipeg, and the Flames announced a day later that he's considered week-to-week. His placement on injured reserve means that he'll miss at least one week, which isn't surprising given Sunday's update. Yegor Sharangovich will likely have an opportunity to see increased playing time while Honzek is unavailable.

  • Flames' Dryden Hunt: Brought up from AHL

Hunt was summoned from AHL Calgary on Monday.

The Flames also brought up Sam Morton and sent Rory Kerins to the minors. Hunt has five goals and 16 points in 15 AHL outings this season. He could occupy a bottom-six role against Chicago on Tuesday after Samuel Honzek (upper body) sustained a week-to-week injury in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg.

  • Flames' Sam Morton: Called up by Flames

Morton was recalled from AHL Calgary on Monday.

Morton began the regular season in the AHL, where he's recorded four goals, eight assists and four PIM in 16 games this year. However, he'll join the NHL club to provide assistance while Samuel Honzek (upper body) is considered week-to-week.

  • Flames' Rory Kerins: Sent down to minors

Kerins was demoted to AHL Calgary on Monday.

Kerins saw action in two games while up with the Flames, failing to register a point while notching one hit, one shot and a minus-1 rating. Sam Morton was recalled in a corresponding move and could replace Kerins in the lineup against Chicago on Tuesday. This likely won't be Kerins' last stint in the NHL this year, but it's unlikely he makes enough of an impact to help fantasy managers.

  • Flames' Samuel Honzek: Status now week-to-week

Honzek (upper body) is considered week-to-week, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports Sunday.

Honzek collided with Mikael Backlund and left Saturday's loss to the Jets. The 21-year-old Honzek has put up four points (two goals, two assists) in 18 games in his first season as a full-time NHL player while averaging 12:21 of ice time. With Honzek out, expect Yegor Sharangovich to draw back into the lineup after being scratched the last couple of games.

  • Flames' Morgan Frost: Crosses 100-assist mark in career

Frost logged two assists and three shots on goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Jets.

Frost picked up his first multi-point effort of the year. His first assist was the 100th of his career. The 26-year-old center is up to three goals, seven helpers, 32 shots on net, 13 hits, 10 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a plus-3 rating over 20 appearances. He's seeing time primarily in a top-six role this season, along with a spot on the power play, so he should be capable of sustaining his current pace on offense.

  • Flames' Jake Bean: Puts away first goal

Bean scored a goal on two shots and blocked three shots in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Jets.

The goal was Bean's first of the season. The 27-year-old blueliner is working on reclaiming steady time on the third pairing after a five-game stretch as a healthy scratch earlier in November. Bean has two points, 15 shots on net, 22 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over 12 appearances this season. He is unlikely to produce enough offense to interest fantasy managers.

  • Flames' Kevin Bahl: Nets goal on deflected shot

Bahl scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Jets.

The goal snapped an eight-game point drought for Bahl, a span in which he also missed one contest due to an undisclosed injury. The 25-year-old has maintained his usual top-four spot in the Flames' lineup and is providing fairly steady defensive work. He's at two goals, four points, 16 shots on net, 15 hits, 29 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a plus-7 rating over 19 appearances this season.

  • Flames' Matthew Coronato: Forces overtime Saturday

Coronato scored a power-play goal on four shots and added an assist in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Jets.

Coronato set up Kevin Bahl's goal in the second period before scoring one of his own with 1:14 left in regulation time. With three points over his last three games, Coronato may be heating up again. He's had some bursts of offense this season, but nothing that's been sustainable over a longer stretch. He's at five goals, four helpers, 56 shots on net, 12 PIM and a minus-11 rating through 19 appearances. Coronato has upside, but he may not do enough to help in redraft formats this year.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Handed shootout loss

Wolf allowed three goals on 23 shots in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Jets.

Wolf kept things close, but this was not a great follow-up to his 17-save shutout versus the Sharks on Thursday. The 24-year-old netminder has evened out a bit with a 3-3-1 record and 15 goals allowed over his last seven games, but wins will continue to be hard to find behind a low-scoring team. Wolf is at 5-10-2 on the year with a 3.01 GAA and an .896 save percentage over 17 starts. The Flames have a road back-to-back up next, with a visit to Chicago on Tuesday followed by Buffalo on Wednesday. Expect Wolf and Devin Cooley to split those starts.

  • Flames' William Stromgren: Three points for Wranglers

Stromgren scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Calgary's 6-4 win over Henderson on Saturday.

The goal was Stromgren's first of the season. Other than a lack of goals, the winger has been pretty good with 12 points over 15 outings. He showed some promise with 14 goals and 49 points over 70 regular-season outings a year ago. Stromgren is a second-round pick from 2021 and signed his entry-level deal in 2023, so he's in a contract year this season. He's shown enough playmaking potential to stick in the Flames' long-term plans.

  • Flames' Samuel Honzek: Sustains upper-body injury

Honzek has an upper-body injury and won't finish Saturday's game versus the Jets, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Honzek was hurt in a collision with teammate Mikael Backlund in the second period. Until further information is available, consider Honzek day-to-day and questionable to suit up in the Flames' upcoming road back-to-back set with games Tuesday in Chicago and Wednesday in Buffalo.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Tending twine Saturday

Wolf will guard the home crease versus Winnipeg on Saturday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Wolf is coming off a 16-save shutout against San Jose on Thursday. He is 5-10-1 with a 3.03 GAA and an .897 save percentage over 16 starts this season. The Jets are scoring 3.24 goals per game, 11th in the NHL.

  • Flames' Samuel Honzek: Deposits empty-netter

Honzek scored an empty-net goal and went plus-2 in Thursday's 2-0 win over the Sharks.

Honzek had been limited to one assist over his previous seven games. The 21-year-old is getting a chance on the third line with the talented two-way duo of Blake Coleman and Mikael Backlund, which should help Honzek have steady performances. For the season, Honzek is at four points, 22 shots on net, 33 hits and a plus-1 rating across 17 outings.
