Top Sharks News

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Scheduled to face Utah

Askarov was the first netminder off at morning skate, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports, which indicates he'll guard the home cage Tuesday versus the Mammoth.

Askarov has been tremendous lately after a slow start to the campaign, but his four-game winning streak was snapped during his last start in Calgary on Thursday. Still, he stopped 34 of 35 shots in that game but didn't receive any offensive support in a 2-0 loss. To put things in perspective, the 2020 first-round pick has a 1.19 GAA and an otherworldly .965 save percentage across his last five outings, so he'll look to get back in the win column Tuesday after receiving the night off Saturday in Seattle. The Mammoth are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks on Monday, so the Sharks have the clear rest advantage.

  • Sharks' Michael Misa: Set to miss several more weeks

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Monday that Misa (lower body) is slated to miss more than two additional weeks, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Misa landed on injured reserve Nov. 6, and he was considered week-to-week when the move was made. He doesn't yet have a clear timetable to return, but Warsofsky indicated Monday that Misa is behind Jeff Skinner (lower body), who is set to miss approximately two weeks. As a result, Misa isn't expected to be in the mix to return until at least early December.

  • Sharks' Jeff Skinner: Expected to miss two weeks

Skinner is slated to miss at least two weeks due to his lower-body injury, Max Miller of NHL.com reports Monday.

Skinner was classified as week-to-week, so it could still be longer before he is given the all-clear. Prior to getting hurt, the 33-year-old winger was stuck in a five-game goal drought that will likely have to wait until December for the Toronto native to break.

  • Sharks' Alexander Wennberg: Gets lone goal against former team

Wennberg scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Kraken.

Wennberg was able to score against one of his former teams, tying the game at 1-1 late in the first period. Matt Murray (lower body) was injured on the play, but Philipp Grubauer kept the Sharks off the board the rest of the way. Wennberg has emerged as a steady veteran in a top-six role this season, collecting five goals and 11 points over 19 appearances. He's added 20 shots on net, 24 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating. With eight of his points coming in the last 10 games, Wennberg is worth a look in fantasy until the offense dries up.

  • Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Loses to Kraken

Nedeljkovic allowed three goals on 22 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Kraken. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

Nedeljkovic was away from the Sharks for one game to attend to a personal matter. The 29-year-old didn't have his best performance Saturday, but this was just his second defeat in his last five outings. On the year, he's posted a 3-3-2 record with a 2.97 GAA and a .902 save percentage. Yaroslav Askarov has been pretty good lately and may command more than a 50-50 split of the starts going forward, which leaves Nedeljkovic as an option in deeper fantasy formats only if he can't get enough playing time. The Sharks' next game is at home versus the Mammoth, one of four they'll play at the SAP Center in the next week.

  • Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Starting in Seattle

Nedeljkovic will defend the road net against the Kraken on Saturday, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.

During his last outing, Nedeljkovic made 32 saves in a 2-1 win over Winnipeg on Nov. 7. He has a 3-2-2 record this season while allowing 21 goals on 224 shots. Seattle sits 30th in the league with 2.65 goals per game this campaign.

  • Sharks' Jeff Skinner: Surfaces on IR

Skinner (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

The Sharks recalled Zack Ostapchuk from AHL San Jose in a corresponding move. Skinner will miss at least the next three games, starting with Saturday's matchup against Seattle, after getting injured in Thursday's 2-0 loss to Calgary. He has collected four goals, seven points and 29 shots on net through 17 appearances this campaign.

  • Sharks' Zack Ostapchuk: Summoned from minors

Ostapchuk was recalled from AHL San Jose on Friday.

Ostapchuk has three goals and one assist in 11 minor-league outings this campaign. The 22-year-old forward could make his NHL season debut against Seattle on Saturday after Jeff Skinner (lower body) sustained an injury in Thursday's 2-0 loss to Calgary.

  • Sharks' Cole McKinney: One of each for Wolverines

McKinney scored a goal and added an assist in the University of Michigan's 7-1 win over Penn State on Friday.

McKinney is up to nine points over 13 games in his freshman year of college. The 18-year-old, a second-round pick of the Sharks in 2025, is settling in just fine with the Wolverines. He'll likely have a chance to play deep into the season, as Michigan has been one of the best teams in college this year with an 11-2-0 record.

  • Sharks' Jakub Skarek: Returns to AHL

Skarek was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Friday.

Skarek was recalled Thursday to back up Yaroslav Askarov, as Alex Nedeljkovic (personal) was placed on non-roster injured reserve. Nedeljkovic was activated Friday in a corresponding move.

  • Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Back with team

Nedeljkovic (personal) was added back onto the 23-man roster Friday.

Nedeljkovic had been on the non-roster list while attending to a personal matter, but he has rejoined the team for Friday's practice session. The 29-year-old backstop is undefeated in regulation over his last four outings, posting a 3-0-1 record and 2.44 GAA. Given how well Yaroslav Askarov has performed of late, going 3-1-0 with a 1.00 GAA in his previous four contests, the duo could be headed for a split share of the goaltending duties.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: On wrong side of shutout

Askarov stopped 34 of 35 shots in Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Flames. The second goal was an empty-netter.

Blake Coleman created a turnover and scored at 5:46 of the second period for the only goal that got past Askarov. While this was the end of Askarov's four-game winning streak, he still put forth an excellent performance. He's now allowed exactly one goal in four straight outings. For the season, the 23-year-old is 5-5-1 with a 3.09 GAA and a .906 save percentage over 11 starts. The Sharks' next game is Saturday in Seattle, and if Alex Nedeljkovic (personal) isn't back with the team by then, it's safe to assume Askarov will make another start.

  • Sharks' Leo Sahlin Wallenius: Nets second goal of season

Sahlin Wellenius scored a goal in Vaxjo's 5-4 loss to HV71 in the SHL on Thursday.

Sahlin Wellenius has been limited to nine appearances this season while on loan with Vaxjo. The defenseman has three points and a minus-4 rating in his second taste of SHL action -- he was on loan in Finland's Liiga and Sweden's second-tier HockeyAllsvenskan last year in addition to time with Vaxjo's senior and U20 teams. The Sharks prospect will have plenty of time to develop in Sweden before making the jump to a North American league.

  • Sharks' Jeff Skinner: Hurt early Thursday

Skinner (lower body) will not return to Thursday's game versus the Flames, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Skinner needed help off the ice after taking a hard fall early in the first period. He was unable to put weight on his right leg as he exited, Max Miller of NHL.com reports. If Skinner misses time, which appears likely based on the nature of the injury, the Sharks would need to make a roster move for a forward, or they could opt to dress seven defensemen.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Tending twine Thursday

Askarov will patrol the crease on the road against the Flames on Thursday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Askarov is riding a four-game winning streak during which he posted a 1.23 GAA and a .963 save percentage. After an underwhelming start to the year, in which the 23-year-old netminder recorded a disastrous 4.69 GAA, it seems Askarov has rediscovered his form.

  • Sharks' Alex Nedeljkovic: Placed on injured reserve

The Sharks placed Nedeljkovic (personal) on non-roster injured reserve Thursday, according to Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News.

Nedeljkovic was slated to start Tuesday, but was replaced by Yaroslav Askarov when a personal problem came up. Nedeljkovic is 3-2-2 with a 2,96 GAA and a ,906 save percentage over seven appearances this season. The Sharks recalled Jakub Skarek from AHL San Jose in a corresponding move.
