Sharks' Kaapo Kahkonen: Starting Wednesday
Kahkonen will start Wednesday's home game against Vancouver, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Kahkonen is coming off a 34-save effort in last Saturday's 5-2 loss to Ottawa. He has a 3-6-2 record this season with a 3.57 GAA and an .882 save percentage. Kahkonen gave up four goals on 20 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Canucks on Nov. 27.... See More ... See Less

Sharks' Matt Nieto: Lands on IR
Nieto (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Nieto picked up an assist and logged 15:51 of ice time in Sunday's loss to Buffalo. He will miss at least the next two games, starting with Wednesday's contest versus Vancouver. Nieto has six goals and 11 points in 28 appearances this season.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Evgeny Svechnikov: Hits waivers
Svechnikov was waived by the Sharks on Tuesday, TSN's Chris Johnston reports.
Assuming Svechnikov passes through waivers unclaimed, look for him to join AHL San Jose. Svechnikov has been a healthy scratch for four of the Sharks' last eight games -- he's tallied six points through 20 NHL appearances this year.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Aaron Dell: Heads to AHL
Dell was returned to AHL San Jose on Tuesday.
Dell allowed seven goals on 68 shots en route to a 0-2-0 record during his NHL stint with the Sharks. In a corresponding move, the team brought up goaltender Eetu Makiniemi on Tuesday.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Eetu Makiniemi: Brought up by Sharks
Makiniemi was summoned from AHL San Jose on Tuesday.
Makiniemi has a 6-4-1 record with a 2.57 GAA, a .918 save percentage and one shutout in 12 games at the AHL level this season. In a corresponding move, the Sharks returned netminder Aaron Dell to the Barracuda.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Matt Nieto: Deals power-play helper
Nieto posted a power-play assist in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Nieto hadn't recorded a power-play point since 2015-16 in his first stint with the Sharks, as he rarely sees more than second-unit time. The Sharks' lack of better options up front has opened the door in places, and Nieto has done well as a depth forward this season. He has six goals, five helpers, 47 shots on net, 22 hits and a minus-8 rating in 28 appearances, with seven of his 11 points coming in the last 11 games.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Logan Couture: Garners assist Sunday
Couture recorded an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Couture saw a three-game point streak end Saturday, but he got back on the scoresheet Sunday when he helped out on an Oskar Lindblom tally. Since Nov. 10, Couture has been one of the most consistent players in the league, racking up nine goals and seven helpers in 14 outings. The center has 13 goals, 11 assists, 65 shots on net, 49 hits and a minus-12 rating in 28 contests overall.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Marc-Edouard Vlasic: Records assist Sunday
Vlasic produced an assist, three shots on goal and three blocked shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Vlasic helped out on an Oskar Lindblom goal in the third period. With three assists in his last seven outings, Vlasic has enjoyed a bit of a bounce-back campaign on offense. That's still not much since he was never a particularly notable scoring threat -- he's at seven assists in 28 games, halfway to matching the 14 points he put up in 75 outings last year. Vlasic has added 27 shots on net, 43 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating this season while returning to a top-four role on an inexperienced blue line.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Matt Benning: Earns power-play assist
Benning notched a power-play assist, two shots on goal, three hits and three blocked shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Benning's offense this season continues to be a surprise, and it's even earned him time on the second power-play unit recently. He set up a Kevin Labanc goal in the first period of Sunday's game. Benning has six helpers in his last eight outings and is up to 10 points, 22 shots on net, 39 hits, 42 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a minus-6 rating in 28 contests overall.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Luke Kunin: Snags helper in loss
Kunin posted an assist and three hits in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Kunin snapped a three-game point drought when he set up Nick Bonino's first-period marker. Despite playing on the Sharks' third line, Kunin has emerged as a key depth scorer with 13 points in 28 contests. He's added 51 shots on net, 60 hits, 27 blocked shots, 32 PIM and a minus-11 rating -- his all-around production may be enough to help managers in deeper fantasy formats.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Erik Karlsson: Logs helper in loss
Karlsson picked up an assist, four shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Karlsson began the Sharks' four-game road trip with no points versus the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs, but he's gotten back on track with an assist in each of the last two games. The 32-year-old was inevitably going to slow down after a remarkable heater that began in late October. He's at 11 goals, 23 assists, 86 shots on net, 30 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through 28 appearances.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Oskar Lindblom: Breaks through for first goal
Lindblom scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Lindblom snapped an 11-game point drought with his first goal of the season. In that span, he went minus-5 with 11 hits and 8:03 of ice time per game. The 26-year-old's limited usage on the Sharks' fourth line has led to virtually nothing in the scoring department, as he's at five points, 27 shots, 25 hits and a minus-7 rating in 27 appearances this season.... Sharks' Nick Bonino: Gets first goal of season
Bonino scored a goal in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Bonino had picked up three assists in 16 games since the start of November before finally getting his first goal of the year Sunday. The 34-year-old has four points, a minus-7 rating, 26 shots on net, 36 blocked shots and eight PIM in 25 outings overall. He's more of a defensive center, so there's little reason to track his production in most fantasy formats.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Kevin Labanc: Buries power-play goal
Labanc scored a power-play goal and added two PIM in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres.
Labanc put the Sharks ahead 2-1 with his first-period tally. The goal was his first in five games, though he added three assists in that span. This was also his first power-play point since Nov. 5. Labanc has five goals, 15 points, 51 shots and a minus-6 rating in 27 contests, though his continued presence on the top line alongside Timo Meier and Tomas Hertl maintains some hope for his production.... Sharks' Aaron Dell: Not good Sunday
Dell allowed five goals on 37 shots in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Sabres. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.
Dell's second start of the year was worse than his first, and both ended up as losses. He's given up seven goals on 68 shots so far, and the Sharks' porous defense is unlikely to make his job easier as he fills in on the NHL roster with James Reimer (lower body) out. Outside the deepest of formats, Dell is best left on the waiver wire.... See More ... See Less
Sharks' Aaron Dell: Starting in Buffalo
Dell will start Sunday's road game against the Sabres, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Dell's second start of the season will come against his former team. In 12 appearances with the Sabres last year, he posted a 1-8-1 record with a 4.03 GAA and an .893 save percentage. Dell made 29 saves on 31 shots in a 3-1 loss to Toronto on Wednesday during his 2022-23 debut with the Sharks.... See More ... See Less
