  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Ruled out Monday

Makar suffered a lower-body injury against Detroit on Saturday and will be unavailable for Monday's matchup with Chicago, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports.

Makar has been absolutely tearing it up of late with 16 points in his last nine contests, including seven power-play assists. With Makar on the shelf, Bowen Byram figures to link up with the No. 1 power-play unit while Kurtis MacDermid will suit up for the first time since March 7 versus the Sharks. Given his offensive upside, Makar figures to be a top-end fantasy target regardless of format.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Ready to rock

MacDermid (lower body) will return to the lineup Monday against Chicago, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

MacDermid, who has missed the past six games, has chipped in four assists, 76 hits and 49 PIM in 37 appearances this season. He will replace Cale Makar (lower body) in the lineup.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Plays four third-period shifts

Makar did not play over the final 11:43 of the third period in Saturday's 5-1 win over Detroit, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports.

Makar played just four shifts (2:38) in the third period. The Avalanche were well in control of the game, up 5-1, so this could have been coach Jared Bednar giving a break to Makar, who averages 26:36 TOI/game. After he appeared to be in pain following an on-ice sequence, Makar retreated to the bench and remained there. Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports Makar was in the post-game room like normal and was told the defenseman is fine.

  • Avalanche's Evan Rodrigues: Logs assist in win

Rodrigues had an assist, one shot on net and one blocked shot over 17:53 of ice time in Saturday's 5-1 win over Detroit.

Rodrigues and Nathan MacKinnon executed pinpoint passing to set up Mikko Rantanen's tally in the third period. Rodrigues has bounced around the lines this season but was recently given a plum assignment on the top line. He's responded to it with three goals and three assists over the last nine games.

  • Avalanche's Mikko Rantanen: Scores in fourth straight

Rantanen scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings. He also had four PIM over 19:50 of ice time.

Rantanen finished off a well-executed passing sequence by linemates Nathan MacKinnon and Evan Rodrigues for Colorado's final goal. It was the fourth consecutive game with a tally and seventh straight with a point for Rantanen, who leads the Avs and ranks third in the NHL with 46 goals. At 83 points through 68 games, Rantanen is nine points shy of the career high he set last season.

  • Avalanche's Lars Eller: Starts contributing

Eller scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over Detroit. He added one hit and two penalty minutes over 12:24 of ice time.

A rebound of a Valeri Nichushkin shot found Eller's stick, and he controlled it then changed the angle to beat Ville Husso for his second consecutive game with a tally. Eller, who joined Colorado 10 games ago, made his presence felt during the team's four-game road trip. The third-line center had two goals and an assist.

  • Avalanche's Bowen Byram: Scores on man advantage

Byram scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings. He added one shot on net, two hits and one blocked shot to his line over 19:39 TOI.

With the Avs on a 4-on-3 power play, Byram one-timed a Cale Makar feed from from the right faceoff circle for his second power-play tally and seventh overall in 30 games. The 21-year-old blueliner has had trouble staying healthy, but Byram contributes significantly on offense when he's on the ice. He's up to 17 points over 30 games, the same ratio he had last season.

  • Avalanche's Denis Malgin: Logs assist in win

Malgin had an assist and two shots on net over 14:36 of ice time in Saturday's 5-1 win over Detroit.

Malgin replaced Mikko Rantanen at the end of a shift and dropped a pretty feed in-stride to Nathan Mackinnon for Colorado's second goal. Malgin has shown offensive aptitude since joining the Avalanche and was recently moved up to the second line. He has six goals and three assists over 29 games with Colorado.

  • Avalanche's Devon Toews: Snaps goal drought

Toews scored a goal on four shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings. He added three hits and three blocked shots to his line over 24:04 of ice time.

Ville Husso was expertly screened by Valeri Nichushkin and never saw Toews' blast from the blue line. The defenseman snapped a 16-game stretch without a goal, but he did have eight assists and was plus-11 during that span. Toews has five goals, 32 assists, 136 shots, 79 hits and a team-leading 117 blocks over 66 games.

  • Avalanche's Cale Makar: Three helpers in win

Makar collected three assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings.

The blueliner had a hand in each of the Avalanche's first three goals on the afternoon. Makar has found the scoresheet in eight straight games, a stretch in which the 24-year-old has racked up three goals and 16 points, including seven power-play helpers.

  • Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Three-point effort against Wings

MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal and added two assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 5-1 victory over the Red Wings.

The 27-year-old superstar remains red hot. MacKinnon extended his point streak to eight games with the performance, a stretch in which he's piled up six goals and 15 points, including three tallies and three helpers on the power play. He's failed to find the scoresheet only twice in 20 games since the All-Star break, and on the season he's up to 30 goals -- the sixth time in his career he's reached that mark -- and 88 points in only 57 contests.

  • Avalanche's Alexandar Georgiev: Sharp in Saturday's win

Georgiev stopped 33 shots in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings.

A Pius Suter tally in the first period marred what was otherwise an outstanding performance by Georgiev. The 27-year-old has proven himself to be a bona fide No. 1 goaltender this season with the Avs, racking up a career-high 31 wins with a 2.56 GAA and .918 save percentage over 50 appearances.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Still sidelined

MacDermid (lower body) won't play Saturday against Detroit.

MacDermid will miss his sixth straight game. He has contributed four assists, 76 hits and 49 PIM in 37 appearances this season. Brad Hunt has been skating on the third defense pairing during MacDermid's absence.

  • Avalanche's Alex Galchenyuk: Skating on fourth line

Galchenyuk was given nine shifts and 4:08 of ice time in Thursday's 5-4 win over Ottawa.

Galchenyuk was called up earlier this week in the wake of Artturi Lehkonen's finger injury and had a combined 7:30 TOI in back-to-back wins over Toronto and Ottawa. He's been added to the fourth line, which was given only two shifts during the third period. That unit was on the ice for two of Ottawa's three even-strength goals.

  • Avalanche's Alex Newhook: TOI drying up

Newhook had two penalty minutes over 5:41 of ice time in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Newhook was in the box for interference when Ottawa scored its first goal then made a poor read that led to the Sens' second goal, which may explain the season-low TOI. The second-year forward's ice time has diminished of late. Newhook's now skating on the fourth line, which collectively played just two shifts in the third period, and been given less than 10 minutes in three of the last four games.

  • Avalanche's Lars Eller: Goals stands upon review

Eller scored a goal on one shot over 13:33 of ice time in Thursday's 5-4 win over Ottawa.

Eller scored his first since being acquired by the Avalanche, but the tally had to withstand added scrutiny. The Senators first thought it was icing, but that was not called. Then goalie Mads Sogaard appeared to have covered the puck, but only for a brief moment, giving Eller, who did not hear a whistle, the chance to bang it into the net. The goal stood, and the Avs had a 5-2 lead. He's beginning to establish a comfort level with his new team, as head coach Jared Bednar noted to Evan Rawal of the Colorado Hockey Now following last week's win over Arizona, Eller's sixth game with Colorado.
