The Orioles first baseman has gone over this prop in 8 of those 9 games, including five home runs and seven total extra base hits. Against Carlos Rodon, who returns off the injured list, Alonso is 2 for 10 with a home run in his career. I'll ride the hot streak until it ends, especially at plus money.

    Analysis

    I'm backing Atlanta's new acquisition, pitcher Tyler Mahle, who has given up only one run in 12 innings since being acquired in early-August. Meanwhile, Minnesota's Zebby Matthews posted a 7.66 ERA in July and a 6.30 ERA thus far in August. With the wind blowing out to right field, look for the Braves left handed power hitters (Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin, Michael Harris, Ozzie Albies) to crush the homer-prone Matthews (18 home runs allowed in 91 innings). I think Atlanta bounces back Tuesday night on the road.

    Analysis

    The Minnesota Twins snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, ending a skid that started in 2023. Zebby Matthews has a 4.69 expected ERA and a 92 Stuff+ rating, but he rarely pitches deep into games. When Matthews leaves, the Twins turn to a bullpen that has thrown 210 pitches in the last five days and is ranked 25th in ERA. Tyler Mahle, on the other hand, has a stronger record with a 3.92 expected ERA, a 105 Stuff+ rating, and a 102 Location+ index. Atlanta has a clear advantage, with a +14 Outs Above Average compared to Minnesota’s -4. The Twins are just 6-15 in the second game of a series after winning the first.

    Analysis

    San Jose State went 3-9 last year, with the worst performances in their last three games. Coach Ken Niumatalolo only had two starters return, and they're both offensive linemen. Now he's got to face a USC team in the opener that is loaded this season, with nine starters back on offense, including senior quarterback Jayden Maiava, and five on defense. They have all five starters on the offensive line returning, and that's the biggest component I look at in these opening games. The cohesion is gonna be there, and apparently the boosters money is also there, as they had the No. 1 recruiting class in college football. I think USC could be the next Indiana this year. USC shows off for the nation.

    Analysis

    This game was moved from Brazil to Virginia, and the line jumped 2 points. I think that's a bit of an overreaction. I have these teams rated pretty close, and UVA doesn't have a huge home-field edge. I also think the Cavs are a bit overvalued coming off a 11-3 season. NC State is replacing a lot of production, but I think the Wolfpack have a more talented roster and are an interesting team in the ACC. Also, keep an eye on NC State QB CJ Bailey. He closed last season strong and could take a big step forward as a junior. I see this game going down to the wire, so I'll take the 5.5.
