    Analysis

    Another great price on the Tigers +1.5 with them winning today to cash for us. Shohei Ohtani was originally penciled in to start this one on the mound but that won't happen, and it will be Tyler Glasnow. Regardless, L.A. isn't hitting much on this six-game trip (1-4 on it) that ends Sunday. Detroit pitcher Framber Valdez has been a moderate disappointment overall but thrives during the day (2.74 ERA compared to 5.03 at night).

    Analysis

    I'll take a shot with the slumping Twins, who have lost 7 of 8 games and pretty much played themselves out of any playoff chances they might've had. The good news on Sunday is that they start Zebby Matthews, who has won all four starts in August. Plus, current White Sox are only 7 for 44 against him lifetime (.159 batting average). I believe Minnesota finds a way to avoid the sweep against their division rivals on Sunday afternoon.

    Analysis

    New Spartans coach Pat Fitzgerald performed miracles at Northwestern, but that seems like ages ago. In his last four seasons in Evanston, he went 14-31, including a 4-20 mark over his last two years. He also hasn't coached since 2022 when the landscape of college football was much different. And, unlike other coaches in the first year at a school, Fitzgerald did not have the benefit of a previous school from which to mine transfer talent. Though Toledo will be under a new coach also, Mike Jacobs brings several players from Mercer after taking the Bears to the FCS playoffs the last two seasons. Those include FCS defensive player of the year Andrew Zock. I don't hate a money line sprinkle on Toledo either.

    Analysis

    I love Nebraska in this spot. Ohio has a new head coach and a completely retooled roster. They should be a good fade candidate early in the year. This looks like Matt Rhule's most talented roster in Lincoln, and I think Anthony Colandrea is an upgrade at quarterback over the inconsistent Dylan Raiola. The Bobcats have a new quarterback and five new offensive linemen. Look for Nebraska's defense to dominate in a 45-10 kind of win at home. I'm playing this one early because I expect it to close around -25.5.

    Analysis

    The Longhorns host the Bobcats one week before one of the biggest games of the season: No. 1 Ohio State at No. 5 Texas on Sept. 12. With that enormous matchup looming, the Longhorns, who already are dealing with all-America left tackle Trevor Goosby's bone bruise in his left knee, will emphasize two things against Texas State once the outcome of the game is no longer in doubt: 1) getting out of it healthy and 2) getting it over. Texas also has loads of depth on defense, especially on the line and off the edge, so the Bobcats aren't likely to get any cheap garbage time scores. I could see this as a 45-10 game early in the fourth quarter that never reaches 60 points.
