Top Blackhawks News

  • Blackhawks' Craig Smith: Tallies in shootout loss

Smith scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

The goal was Smith's first point in three games since he returned from a back injury. The 35-year-old winger has resumed playing on the Blackhawks' fourth line, so it's unlikely he'll find consistent offense moving forward. He has seven goals, five assists, 65 shots on net, 24 PIM and a minus-7 rating through 33 appearances this season.

  • Blackhawks' Ryan Donato: Deposits another goal

Donato scored a goal on six shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

Donato enters the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off with six goals and seven assists over his last 10 contests, including four of each during his four-game point streak. The 28-year-old is up to 19 goals, 37 points, 124 shots on net, 89 hits and a minus-3 rating through 53 appearances. He's emerged as one of the Blackhawks' top forwards, and also a big trade chip -- he's in the second season of a two-year deal with a $1 million cap hit, which will make him easy to move. However, his performance and chemistry with Connor Bedard may encourage the team to pursue an extension rather than a trade.

  • Blackhawks' Ethan Del Mastro: Moved to minors

Del Mastro was loaned to AHL Rockford on Sunday, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Del Mastro could return to the Blackhawks after the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off. He has one assist, two shots on goal, one blocked shot and 13 hits through six NHL appearances this season.

  • Blackhawks' Alec Martinez: Two points in shootout loss

Martinez produced a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

The veteran blueliner collected his first multi-point performance of the season, having a hand in a Craig Smith tally in the first period before finding the back of the net himself early in the third on a one-timer from the slot. Martinez doesn't offer a lot of offensive upside, and through 13 games since a month-long absence due to a neck issue, he's managed three goals and five points.

  • Blackhawks' Nick Foligno: Two helpers in Saturday's loss

Foligno notched two assists in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

The 37-year-old contributed his first multi-point performance since Jan. 11 by helping to set up Chicago's final two goals in regulation, third-period tallies by Teuvo Teravainen and Ilya Mikheyev. Foligno has a chance to crack the 40-point mark for the first time since 2016-17 if he can stay healthy, and through 54 appearances on the season he's delivered 11 goals and 25 points.

  • Blackhawks' Teuvo Teravainen: Another multi-point effort

Teravainen scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

He was also the only Chicago skater to solve Jordan Binnington in the 10-round shootout. Teravainen is set to represent Team Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off, and the streaky winger will head into the tournament on a heater, having delivered three straight two-point performances. On the season, Teravainen has 12 goals and 40 points in 55 appearances.

  • Blackhawks' Ilya Mikheyev: Three-point effort in St. Louis

Mikheyev scored a goal and added two assists in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Blues.

All three points came in a wild third period as Chicago rallied from a 3-2 deficit to send the game to OT. It was Mikheyev's first multi-point performance since Dec. 19, and on the heels of an eight-game point drought in January, the 30-year-old winger will head into the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off with two goals and five points in his last five contests.

  • Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Takes tough shootout loss

Soderblom turned aside 35 shots in regulation and overtime and eight of 10 shootout attempts in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Blues.

After a wild third period that saw five goals scored between the two teams, Soderblom kicked out five St. Louis shots in OT and was brilliant during the shootout before finally getting beaten by Radek Faksa for the winner in the 10th round. Soderblom has had some rotten luck, and some poor efforts from his defense, to begin 2025. The 25-year-old netminder is 2-3-4 since the beginning of January, facing at least 34 shots in eight of those outings while posting a 3.40 GAA despite a .906 save percentage.

  • Blackhawks' Arvid Soderblom: Starting in St. Louis

Soderblom will defend the road net against the Blues on Saturday, per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Soderblom will get the second half of Chicago's back-to-back after Petr Mrazek played in Friday's 6-2 win over Nashville. The 25-year-old Soderblom has a 7-12-4 record with a 2.93 GAA and a .908 save percentage through 24 appearances this season. St. Louis is tied for 27th in the league with 2.65 goals per game in 2024-25.

  • Blackhawks' Nolan Allan: Playing time dropping

Allan was out of the lineup for the sixth time in nine games in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Allan played regularly in December and early January, but his role has been reduced lately. Louis Crevier (concussion) is out of the lineup, but Ethan Del Mastro has often played ahead of Allan recently. For the season, Allan has eight points, 15 shots on net, 59 hits, 41 blocked shots and a minus-13 rating over 41 appearances. The 21-year-old could be assigned to AHL Rockford eventually to avoid having him sit around without playing for too long.

  • Blackhawks' Alex Vlasic: Delivers pair of assists

Vlasic notched two assists, three blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Vlasic snapped a 14-game point drought when he set up Frank Nazar's opening goal in the first period. The 23-year-old Vlasic doubled down by setting up Ryan Donato's tally in the final frame. This was Vlasic's first multi-point effort since Dec. 15. The defenseman has already earned a career year, but he's still got some work to do in the consistency department. He's at 19 points, 76 shots on net, 105 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 54 contests.

  • Blackhawks' Teuvo Teravainen: Dishes pair of helpers

Teravainen notched two assists and two shots on goal in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Teravainen has back-to-back games with two helpers. Both of his assists Friday were at even strength as he helped out on goals by Frank Nazar and Ryan Donato. Teravainen is up to 38 points, 82 shots on net and a minus-15 rating over 54 appearances. The playmaking winger has been pretty dialed in since mid-December while seeing steady top-six minutes and power-play time.

  • Blackhawks' Patrick Maroon: Buries goal in win

Maroon scored a goal on three shots in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Maroon ended a five-game slump with the first-period goal. The 36-year-old continues to play regularly on the fourth line, though he has been a healthy scratch on occasion when the Blackhawks want to give him some rest. He's also battled a back injury recently, a concern since he had surgery on his back last season. The winger has contributed three goals, 12 points, 54 shots on net, 80 hits, 71 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 48 appearances.

  • Blackhawks' Frank Nazar: Collects two points in win

Nazar scored a goal on four shots and added an assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Nazar opened the scoring at 8:37 of the first period and also helped out on a Ryan Donato tally in the second. This performance ended a four-game point drought for Nazar, who continues to play in a top-six role and on the power play. The 21-year-old center is at four goals, 10 points, 36 shots, 18 hits and a minus-3 rating over 25 outings, which means this will officially count as his rookie year. Nazar will need to continue to play fairly well -- Colton Dach was shipped to AHL Rockford when his performance started to slip, so the Blackhawks have proven they won't keep prospects in the NHL if it doesn't benefit their development.

  • Blackhawks' Seth Jones: One of each in Friday's win

Jones scored a goal on three shots, added an assist, doled out two hits and blocked four shots in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Jones' pair of points came on the power play -- he and Connor Bedard assisted on each other's tallies. With two goals and four helpers over six outings since he missed a game due to an illness, Jones is in a groove. The 30-year-old defenseman is up to six goals, 26 points, 72 shots on net, 75 blocked shots, 54 hits and a minus-12 rating through 37 appearances. He's earned 14 of his points with the man advantage.

  • Blackhawks' Connor Bedard: Two points on power play in win

Bedard scored a goal on three shots, added an assist, went plus-2 and logged two PIM in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Both of Bedard's points came on the power play in his first multi-point effort since Jan. 8. The center has three goals and four helpers over his last seven outings, earning five power-play points in that span. For the season, he's collected 16 goals, 32 helpers, 23 power-play points, 129 shots on net and a minus-21 rating over 54 appearances.

... See More ... See Less
  • Blackhawks' Ryan Donato: First career four-point game

Donato scored twice on four shots, added two power-play assists and went plus-2 in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators

This was a career-best performance for Donato, who again thrived on the Blackhawks' top line. He's racked up seven goals and seven assists across his last 13 outings while providing a good fit wherever he lines up. The 28-year-old has now matched or exceeded his career highs in all scoring categories -- he has 18 goals, 18 helpers and eight power-play points over 52 games this season. He's also collected 118 shots on net, 88 hits and a minus-3 rating.

  • Blackhawks' Petr Mrazek: Cruises to win Friday

Mrazek stopped 31 of 33 shots in Friday's 6-2 win over the Predators.

Mrazek had lost his last three outings, but the Blackhawks erupted with plenty of goal support in this contest. It was also the first time since Jan. 8 that Mrazek was able to limit an opponent to two or fewer goals -- he had given up 25 tallies over his last six games. The 32-year-old netminder is now 10-18-2 with a 3.27 GAA and an .897 save percentage over 31 starts this season. It wouldn't be surprising to see Arvid Soderblom get the nod for Saturday's game in St. Louis.
