Top Blue Jackets News

  • Blue Jackets' Cole Sillinger: Receives top-line look

Sillinger posted an assist, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Sillinger started the year on the third line, but head coach Dean Evason's lineup shuffle saw Sillinger take over on the top line while Yegor Chinakhov moved down to the second line. Sillinger was able to draw his assist on Kirill Marchenko's third-period tally. Through six outings, Sillinger has a goal, three helpers, 14 shots on net, eight hits and six PIM. His fantasy value receives an instant boost if he can stay in his new role, as the 21-year-old has the scoring chops to handle increased responsibilities.

  • Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski: Dishes pair of assists in win

Werenski produced two assists and went plus-4 in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Werenski has a pair of two-assist games over his last three outings. The defenseman has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with six points, 23 shots on net, five blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over six appearances. He's earned two of his points on the power play, where he quarterbacks the first unit, a role that should allow him to be a steady scoring presence throughout the season.

  • Blue Jackets' James van Riemsdyk: Opens scoring in win

Van Riemsdyk scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Van Riemsdyk has scored twice over six contests this season, and he's added five shots on net and a minus-1 rating. The 35-year-old winger was listed on the fourth line but still saw 12:46 of ice time Tuesday, including a season-high 2:48 on the power play. He's yet to log a point with the man advantage, but if he gets going in that situation, he could become a depth option in fantasy.

  • Blue Jackets' Kirill Marchenko: Two more points Tuesday

Marchenko scored a goal on seven shots, dished an assist, added two PIM and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Marchenko produced his third multi-point effort in six appearances this season. He continues to click with Sean Monahan on the top line, and that duo was joined by Cole Sillinger after head coach Dean Evason shuffled up the lines a bit. Marchenko has eight points, 16 shots on net and a plus-6 rating so far, making him a strong depth addition in all formats that focus on offense as long as he remains on the top line and first power-play unit.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Fast start to season continues

Monahan had two assists Tuesday in a 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Monahan has seven points, including three goals, in 6 games played. This hasn't been the season he'd expected when he inked his summer-time deal to play with his former best friend, Johnny Gaudreau. But increased ice time and responsibility will net points for Monahan this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Justin Danforth: Massive three-point game in win

Donforth had a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win over Toronto on Tuesday.

Danforth wired a snap shot past Dennis Hildeby early in the first to push his team up 2-0. He's not really known for his offense -- Danforth's best season came in 2023-24 when he put in 10 goals and added 16 assists in 2023-24. Nice night for the journeyman.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Raked up Leafs all night long

Tarasov made 26 saves in a 6-2 win over Toronto on Tuesday.

Tarasov was solid, but it really was a team game. The Jackets had the Leafs on their heels because of their speed through the neutral zone. The Leafs didn't get their first goal until 18:59 of the second period. Tarasov has delivered a 3-1-0 record with a 3.29 GAA and an .888 save percentage.

  • Blue Jackets' Mathieu Olivier: First two-goal game in NHL

Olivier scored twice Tuesday in a 6-2 win over Toronto.

It was his first two-goal game in the NHL. Olivier's first put the Jackets up 3-0 in the first period, and it stood as the winner. He then pushed the score to 5-0 with a one-timer from the top of the crease later in the game. The journeyman 27-year-old has played parts of the last five seasons and had just 13 goals and 21 assists in 168 career games coming into 2024-25. Olivier has already delivered three goals and an assist in six appearances this season. Opportunity has knocked for him, and he'll be eager to prove.

  • Blue Jackets' Erik Gudbranson: Out indefinitely following surgery

Gudbranson had shoulder surgery Monday and will be out indefinitely.

Gudbranson has already been out of action for the Jackets' previous two games and is not expected back in the short-term. Even without his injury, the blueliner was unlikely to reach the 20-point threshold for a second straight season considering last year was the only time he's reached that threshold. In the meantime, David Jiricek, Jack Johnson and Jordan Harris will likely rotate on the bottom pairing. Given his timeline, it wouldn't be surprising to see Gudbranson end up on long-term injured reserve.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Moves past injury

Merzlikins is healthy after tending to a lower-body issue and will backup Daniil Tarasov against Toronto on Tuesday, according to Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site.

Merzlikins hasn't played since Oct. 15 against Florida, in which he allowed four goals on 22 shots in a 4-3 loss. The Latvian netminder is 0-2-0 with an .854 save percentage and a 3.68 GAA through two appearances. The 30-year-old's next chance to draw a start will come Saturday against Nashville.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Set to guard home crease Tuesday

Tarasov is expected to start against at home against Toronto on Tuesday, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Tarasov will be tasked with quieting the Maple Leafs' offense after Toronto earned a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Monday. Toronto has also scored at least four goals in four of its past five games, so the Blue Jackets goaltender has his work cut out for him. Tarasov has a 2-1-0 record, 3.71 GAA and .876 save percentage in three outings this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Shipped back to minors

Greaves was reassigned to AHL Cleveland on Monday.

Greaves' demotion ahead of Tuesday's clash with Toronto would seem to indicate that Elvis Merzlikins (upper body) will at least be healthy enough to serve as the backup against the Leafs. With youngster Daniil Tarasov having secured the No. 2 role in Columbus, it will take another injury or a trade of Merzlikins for Greaves to get another opportunity this season.

  • Blue Jackets' David Jiricek: Grabs helper in season debut

Jiricek notched an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Wild.

The Blue Jackets dressed seven defensemen for this contest, with Jiricek getting into the lineup over a healthy forward in Kevin Labanc. Jiricek had 11:23 of ice time, more than Jake Christiansen (10:59) and Jordan Harris (10:15) on the Columbus blue line. Jiricek made his season debut Saturday as it looks like the Blue Jackets are still taking a cautious approach with his development, but it doesn't serve him well to sit in the press box for extended stretches as a 20-year-old. If he isn't playing regularly in the NHL, he may be better off heading to AHL Cleveland.

  • Blue Jackets' Sean Monahan: Deals helper Saturday

Monahan registered an assist and four shots on goal in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Wild.

Monahan found Yegor Chinakhov late in the third period for the Blue Jackets' lone goal of the game. It continues a strong start to the year for Monahan, who has two goals, three assists, 16 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating over five contests in a top-line role. As long as the center sees significant minutes at even strength and on the power play, he'll be a decent depth option for fantasy managers.

  • Blue Jackets' Yegor Chinakhov: Scores late in loss

Chinakhov scored a goal on four shots and added two hits in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Wild.

Chinakhov broke up Filip Gustavsson's shutout bid with 1:25 left in the game. The 23-year-old Chinakhov was initially questionable for Saturday's game after sustaining a lower-body injury while blocking a shot in Tuesday's game against Florida. However, the injury didn't cost him any playing time. He saw a season-high 21:11 of ice time with the Blue Jackets dressing 11 forwards and seven defensemen Saturday. Chinakhov is off to a strong start this year with three goals, four assists, 17 shots on net, six hits and a plus-5 rating through five contests.

  • Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Allows three goals in loss

Tarasov yielded three goals on 35 shots in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Wild.

The Blue Jackets didn't get on the board until there was 1:25 left in regulation, giving Tarasov almost no help. The 25-year-old put in a decent performance in the best of his three starts so far this season -- he won the other two but allowed four goals in each of those victories. The 25-year-old netminder will likely see No. 1 usage while Elvis Merzlikins (upper body) is out of action. The Blue Jackets' next game is Tuesday versus the Maple Leafs.

  • Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Won't play Saturday

Merzlikins (upper body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's home game versus Minnesota, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Merzlikins has a record of 0-2-0 with a 3.68 GAA and an .854 save percentage in two appearances in 2024-25. Daniil Tarasov is expected to start Saturday, while Jet Greaves will serve as the understudy.
