Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Will start final game of road trip
Sorokin will start in Detroit on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday on Tuesday.
Sorokin is getting the night off Tuesday, as David Rittich will be between the pipes in Dallas. Head coach Patrick Roy confirmed that Sorokin will get the start in the final game of the Islanders' road trip, which concludes Thursday in Detroit. The Russian netminder has cleaned up his game lately, delivering a 4-1-1 record, .931 save percentage and 1.96 GAA across his last six appearances.

Islanders' David Rittich: Tending twine in Dallas
Rittich is scheduled to patrol the road blue paint Tuesday versus the Stars, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday.
Rittich was sharp in his last start, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth on Friday. The 33-year-old owns a 4-2-0 record, 3.15 GAA and .893 save percentage across six appearances in 2025-26. As for the Stars, they have scored 22 goals during their active five-game winning streak.

Islanders' Simon Holmstrom: Under the weather
Holmstrom is contending with an illness and is a game-time call for Tuesday's matchup in Dallas, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Holmstrom has yet to miss a game this season. If he is unable to suit up, Maxim Tsyplakov will likely draw back into the lineup, while Maxim Shabanov could fill Holmstrom's spot on the top line alongside Mathew Barzal and Jonathan Drouin against the Stars.

Islanders' Emil Heineman: Nets lone goal in loss
Heineman scored a goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche.
Heineman has scored in each of the last three games. His tally 2:05 into the game was all the Islanders could put past Scott Wedgewood. Heineman is up to nine goals, 13 points, 41 shots on net, 65 hits and a plus-6 rating through 19 appearances this season. He's worked his way into consideration in fantasy by emerging as a power winger with enough consistency on offense.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Allows three goals in loss
Sorokin stopped 24 of 27 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche. Colorado's third goal was an empty-netter.
The Avalanche scored twice in a span of 1:19 during the second period, and that was enough to stick Sorokin with the loss. In the final minute, Martin Necas scored an empty-netter and Brock Nelson tipped in a goal to put the game out of the Islanders' reach. Sorokin's three-game winning streak came to an end, but he has allowed a modest 12 goals over his last six outings to stabilize his season. The 30-year-old netminder is now 6-5-2 with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage through 13 starts. The Islanders' road trip takes them into another tough matchup when they visit Dallas on Tuesday.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Drawing start in Denver
Sorokin will occupy the crease Sunday in Colorado, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Sorokin has won three straight games and four of his last five, posting a 4-0-1 record, 1.75 GAA and .939 save percentage during that run of success. While the Russian netminder has turned things around after a shaky start to the season, he'll face an incredibly tough challenge against the league's top team Sunday. The Avalanche are 6-0-2 on home ice and have scored 74 goals through 18 games, which is seven more goals than any other team in the NHL.

Islanders' Max Shabanov: Ready to rock
Shabanov (upper body) will return to the lineup against Colorado on Sunday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Shabanov will skate on the fourth line and work on the second power-play unit after missing the last 12 games. He has one goal, three points, eight shots on net and five hits through six appearances this season. Shabanov will replace Maxim Tsyplakov in Sunday's lineup versus the Avalanche.

Islanders' Scott Mayfield: Back on active roster
Mayfield (personal) was activated from non-roster player status Sunday, per the NHL media site.
Mayfield should return to the lineup against Colorado on Sunday after missing the last two games due to the birth of his first child. The Islanders cleared a roster spot for him by returning Travis Mitchell to AHL Bridgeport on Saturday. Mayfield has collected three assists, 15 shots on net, 24 blocked shots and 11 hits across 16 appearances this season.

Islanders' Marshall Warren: Picks up three helpers
Warren recorded three assists in AHL Bridgeport's 5-3 loss to Rochester on Saturday.
Warren ended a four-game slump with the effort. He's largely struggled on offense since a brief stint in the NHL during October. Overall, the 24-year-old blueliner has nine points over 10 AHL games this season, which is more than halfway to surpassing his 17-point effort across 53 regular-season games a year ago.

Islanders' Travis Mitchell: Loaned to AHL affiliate
Mitchell was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Saturday.
Mitchell was a healthy scratch in two games after being summoned from the minors. The defenseman has yet to make his NHL debut. He had three assists in 12 AHL games before his recall. Scott Mayfield (personal) could return against Colorado on Sunday after the birth of his first child, and Mitchel's demotion opens a roster spot.

Islanders' Tomas Poletin: Two goals in WHL win
Poletin scored twice on seven shots in WHL Kelowna's 5-4 overtime loss to Lethbridge on Friday.
Poletin has turned up the offense with five goals and two assists over his last six games. On the year, he has 11 tallies and 16 points in 15 contests. The Islanders' prospect, a fourth-round pick in 2025, likely needed some time to adjust to the North American junior ranks after splitting time between junior and men's leagues in Finland last year. Poletin projects as a bottom-six regular, but his play in the WHL is encouraging for his goal-scoring skill.

Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Plucks first apple
Romanov notched an assist in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.
The helper was Romanov's first point of the season. The defenseman was slowed by an upper-body injury earlier in the campaign, which cost him five games. He's produced one assist, 12 shots on net, 25 hits, 26 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over 13 appearances. The emergence of rookie Matthew Schaefer has meant fewer minutes for Romanov, who will mostly function as a shutdown blueliner.

Islanders' Emil Heineman: Goals in consecutive games
Heineman scored a goal and added three hits in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.
Heineman opened the scoring at 7:13 of the first period with his second goal in as many games. He has gotten on the scoresheet in six of his last eight outings. The 23-year-old winger is up to eight goals, 12 points, 40 shots on net, 65 hits and a plus-6 rating through 18 appearances. Heineman has been a great fit in the Islanders' top six and has fantasy upside as an emerging power forward.

Islanders' Jonathan Drouin: Scores tying goal
Drouin scored a goal in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.
The goal was technically an own goal by the Mammoth, so Drouin scored without officially recording a shot on goal in this contest. It was initially waved off for a kicking motion before a video review ruled Drouin was not the one to propel the puck into the net. The 30-year-old is up to two goals and five assists during his four-game point streak. For the season, the forward has three goals, 14 points, 21 shots on net, 17 PIM and a plus-7 rating through 17 appearances.

Islanders' Matthew Schaefer: Youngest ever to score in overtime
Schaefer scored the game-winning goal and added two PIM in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.
Per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Schaefer is the youngest player in NHL history to score a goal in overtime, besting a record held by Sidney Crosby by a mere 31 days. The legend of Schaefer continues to grow -- he's earned four points over his last three games and remains one of the Islanders' steadiest blueliners in all aspects of the game. He's up to seven goals, including two game-winners, and 15 points while adding 54 shots on net, 21 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating across 18 appearances this season.

Islanders' David Rittich: Secures overtime win
Rittich stopped 27 of 29 shots in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Mammoth.
Rittich had gone three games without a start, matching his longest stint on the bench this season. He had to play in the second half of a back-to-back, which saw the Islanders start a little sluggish and then find their way into the game later. Rittich is 4-2-0 on the year, and he's allowed exactly two goals in each of his victories while struggling more heavily in his losses. Ilya Sorokin will still get the bulk of the starts for the Islanders and will likely handle an immensely challenging start Sunday in Colorado.
