The Ducks' lone scoring play featured a couple of firsts -- Gerald Mayhew netted his first goal for Anaheim with Simon picking up his first assist with the club. The 27-year-old Simon is more of a defensive forward, so he shouldn't be expected to contribute much offense, especially once the Ducks get some players back. He has 10 points, 69 shots on net, 57 hits and 28 PIM through 57 contests this season, most of which was spent on the Penguins' fourth line.
Simon is part of the trade package heading from Pittsburgh to Anaheim in the Rickard Rakell trade, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Pittsburgh's sending Simon, Zach Aston-Reese, a 2022 second-round pick and goalie prospect Calle Clang to the Ducks in exchange for Rakell. Simon will likely slot into a fourth-line role with his new club. He tallied just nine points in 55 games for the Penguins.
