The 49ers signed Hawkins (hand) to their practice squad Tuesday.
The 25-year-old was waived with an injury settlement after he broke his hand during San Francisco's preseason finale, but it now seems as if he's had enough time to move past the issue. Hawkins spent all of 2022 on the 49ers' practice squad, and he's agreed to return now that he's healthy once again. In a corresponding move, San Francisco cut safety Tre Norwood from its practice squad.

Hawkins fractured his hand in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers and Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area said Saturday that he will need surgery. Hawkins is now slated to miss the 2023 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

Hawkins will need surgery after breaking his hand during Friday's preseason game, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The 25-year-old will be forced to miss time after finding out the severity of his hand injury. Hawkins spent last year on the 49ers' practice squad and after this surgery, he could very well end up there again ahead of the coming season.
