Top Cowboys News

  • Cowboys' Jaydon Blue: Misses practice with shoulder injury

Blue missed Tuesday's joint practice with the Saints due to a shoulder injury, Patrik Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports.

Blue handled 10 touches in the Cowboys's preseason opener last weekend, amassing 34 yards. He's expected to get plenty of run this preseason in his battle for the RB2 job behind Javonte Williams, but if Blue is unable to play through a shoulder issue this coming Saturday against the Cardinals, Malik Davis could get a chance to win the gig.

  • Cowboys' DeMarvion Overshown: Moves past injury

Overshown (lower body) participated at the Cowboys' training camp practice Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Overshown was dealing with a lower-body injury at practice last week, and he did not participate in the team's 17-7 preseason victory over the Seahawks on Saturday. The inside linebacker was handling first-team reps at practice Monday, and he now appears to be good to go ahead of the team's preseason matchup with the Cardinals on Saturday, if Dallas chooses to play its starters.

  • Cowboys' Jaishawn Barham: Back at practice

Barham (groin) returned to practice Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Barham was able to make his return to the practice field after missing more than a week with a groin injury that he suffered at practice Aug. 5. The linebacker took some first-team reps, replacing both Dee Winters and DeMarvion Overshown (lower body) at different points. Barham appears to be on track to operate as a top reserve option at inside linebacker in his rookie campaign.

  • Cowboys' Von Miller: Expected to be ramped up for Week 1

Miller is not expected to practice with the Cowboys this week, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Miller signed with Dallas on Sunday after posting 26 total tackles (16 solo), including 9.0 sacks, over a career-high 17 regular season contests with the Commanders in 2025. The team is expected to slowly ramp up the linebacker's participation at practice, and the goal is to have Miller ready to go for Week 1 on the road against the Giants on Sept. 13.

  • Cowboys' P.J. Locke: Active for preseason opener

Locke (knee) was active for the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason victory over Seattle on Saturday.

Locke has been dealing with a knee injury during training camp, but he was able to play in the preseason opener. The safety was on the field for seven defensive snaps, and he didn't record any stats. Locke is expected to serve as a top reserve option behind Malik Hooker and Jalen Thompson this season, and his next opportunity to play will come Saturday on the road against Arizona.

  • Cowboys' Von Miller: Agrees to terms with Cowboys

Miller and the Cowboys agreed to terms on a contract Sunday, Tommy Yarish of the team's official site reports.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, Miller's deal in Dallas is for one year. Miller is a Texas native and will get a chance to play professionally in his home state in the twilight of his illustrious career. The eight-time Pro Bowler hasn't earned that distinction since 2019, but he showed he can still rush the passer effectively in a part-time role by picking up 9.0 sacks for the Commanders in 2025, which was his age-36 season.

  • Cowboys' Ajani Cornelius: Plays in preseason opener

Cornelius (knee) was active for the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over Seattle on Saturday.

Cornelius finished the 2025 season on injured reserve with Dallas while nursing a knee injury, but he now appears to be fully healthy. The offensive lineman played 68 percent of the team's offensive snaps in the victory, and he'll continue to compete for a spot on the Cowboys' initial 53-man roster.

  • Cowboys' Alijah Clark: Active for preseason opener

Clark (ankle) recorded one tackle in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

Clark had been dealing with an ankle injury at training camp, but he was able to play 80 percent of the team's defensive snaps in the contest. The 23-year-old is competing for a reserve spot in the secondary with Dallas this season, and his next chance to prove himself will come Saturday in Arizona.

  • Cowboys' Camden Brown: Has strong debut

Brown caught all three of his targets for 62 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday night's preseason game against the Seahawks.

The undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern stole the show, with the best play of the night coming on a 39-yard touchdown reception from Sam Howell in the second quarter. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound wide receiver will need another strong performance in next Saturday's game against the Cardinals to truly move up a stacked Cowboys depth chart. Brown will need to beat out Jonathan Mingo, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and anyone else attempting to make the roster in order to take just the No. 5 spot behind CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin.

  • Cowboys' Anthony Smith: Two catches to open preseason

Smith brought in two of five targets for 28 yards and rushed once for nine yards in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

The rookie seventh-round pick tied for the team lead in targets and recorded an impressive 23-yard reception on third down during Dallas' first possession of the second half. Smith finished his six-year college career with a flourish over his final two seasons at East Carolina, but he still seemingly has an uphill battle for a spot on the 53-man roster due to a deep Cowboys wide-receiver depth chart. Smith should see ample time in the second half again during next Saturday night's exhibition at Arizona.

  • Cowboys' Jaydon Blue: Logs 10 touches in preseason win

Blue rushed eight times for 19 yards and brought in both targets for 15 yards in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday. He also returned one kickoff for 23 yards.

Blue was the Cowboys' starting running back Saturday and gained six yards on two rush attempts over Dallas' first pair of plays from scrimmage. The 2025 fifth-round pick has been praised for having a much better training camp this summer than he did as a rookie, and as Saturday's game demonstrated, the coaching staff is set to give him an extended look during preseason to determine his fitness for a potential No. 2 role. One of Blue's primary competitors for the job, Phil Mafah, notably suffered a chest injury during Saturday's game, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he doesn't expect him to miss significant time.

  • Cowboys' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Blanked in preseason opener

Valdes-Scantling failed to bring in his only target in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

The veteran speedster was blanketed down the left sideline on his one target. Valdes-Scantling was dealing with a knee injury earlier in the week and was slated to get an MRI as recently as Thursday, so his availability for Saturday's game was somewhat surprising. Valdes-Scantling will hope to make a better case to stick as a depth option at receiver in Dallas' second preseason game next Saturday night on the road against the Cardinals.

  • Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey: Perfect to open preseason

Aubrey made his only field-goal attempt from 29 yards and knocked home both extra-point tries in the Cowboys' 17-7 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

Aubrey became the NFL's highest-paid kicker this offseason by inking a $28 million extension, and he put together a signature perfect night in his first taste of game action since signing the deal. Aubrey's long-distance prowess is legendary, and he's seen a combined 34 field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards over the last two regular seasons, so he should remain the top fantasy option at his position again in 2026.
