  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: In mix for starting role

Bills general manager Brandon Beane mentioned Dodson by name Tuesday when discussing possible replacements for the vacant starting middle linebacker job following the departure of long-time starter Tremaine Edmunds in free agency, Maddy Glab of the team's official site reports. "I think we got some young guys that have waited their turn and their opportunity," Beane said. "Let's start with Tyrel Dodson who has been here for a while in our system and knows it. I think he filled in admirably when Tremaine missed time. And so, I think he'll have that opportunity." The Bills still have time to bring someone in via free agency or the upcoming draft, but for now it looks like a four-way competition for the job between Dodson, A.J. Klein, Terrel Bernard and Baylon Spector. Dodson -- who posted 32 tackles and a sack last season and served as the primary fill-in in for Edmunds when he was hurt -- and Klein offer more experience than the other two teammates, who were both rookies last season.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Re-ups with Bills on one-year deal

Dodson and the Bills agreed to terms on a one-year contract Tuesday, the team announced. Dodson was set to be a restricted free agent and will be back with the Bills for 2023 after playing 21 percent of the defensive snaps last season while starring on special teams.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Logs career-best outing Sunday

Dodson recorded 11 tackles (seven solo) and one sack during Sunday's 38-3 victory over the Steelers. Dodson started Sunday's contest against Pittsburgh in place of Tremaine Edmunds, who was ruled out for the game with a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old Dodson played 84 percent of Buffalo's defensive snaps and also surpassed his previous career-best tackling performance, which was seven stops in Week 5 of 2020. If Edmunds misses additional time, Dodson would again be the prime beneficiary for extra playing time. The Bills head to Kansas City in Week 6 for what could be another instant classic.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Out for preseason opener

Dodson is not practicing Thursday due to muscle soreness, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. The Bills have been giving some of their veterans time off throughout camp with the "soreness" label, so we'll assume Dodson is likely to be ready for Week 1. However, he's not scheduled to hit the field Saturday against the Colts in Buffalo's first exhibition game.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Re-ups with Buffalo

Dodson has re-signed on a one-year contract, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. The 2022 campaign will be Dodson's third with the team. While the Texas A&M product is unlikely to see starter's time at linebacker, he's a versatile backup and an excellent special teams player. The latter will be especially needed with the Bills having quite a bit of turnover to their coaching staff this offseason, including the special teams coaches.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Moved to IR

Dodson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, the Bills' official site reports. Dodson has been receiving plenty of action lately with injuries hitting starters Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano, but with Edmunds playing again and Milano about to, Dodson's playing time was about to go down even without the injury. He'll now be forced out of action for at least a few weeks.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: No practice yet this week

Dodson, who suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's loss to the Chiefs, missed practice for the second straight day Thursday. Dodson seems like a long shot to return Sunday against the Jets, though at least the Bills could get starter Matt Milano back after the latter practiced on a limited basis the past two days.

  • Bills' Tyrel Dodson: Big contributor in road win

Dodson posted eight tackles and two passes defensed, and played all but one defensive snap in Buffalo's win over Miami in Week 2. The reserve linebacker started in the middle in place of starter Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder) and certainly didn't disappoint. The coaches pointed out how well Dodson played, and he'll certainly be given the same role in Week 3 if Edmunds can't return from his injury. Even when the latter returns to action, Dodson has probably earned himself a few more looks in certain defensive packages.

  • Tyrel Dodson: Waived by Bills

Dodson was waived by the Bills on Monday, The Buffalo News reports. Dodson served a six-game suspension to start the season, which was uplifted last week. The Bills were then given a one-week roster exemption to decide if they were going to keep him on their roster. They have ultimately decided to waive him, but he could be a candidate to land on their practice squad should he end up going unclaimed.
