Week 3 Photo Diary: Stanford upsets USC, Utah field storming and more

Since we like college football so much here at Eye on College Football and a picture is worth a thousand words, what better way to wind our way through the week that was than with a photo diary to document the crazy fans, incredible plays and monumental upsets in the sport? Here's the latest edition covering Week 3, with all photos from US Presswire.

The scene at Stanford Stadium was a large-scale Revenge of the Nerds after the Cardinal beat USC for the fourth straight time on Saturday night.

The following sign pretty much sums up the gameplan for the Cardinal, as they used a great running game with a defense that was hitting USC quarterback Matt Barkley just about every play. Trojans athletic director Pat Haden summed up the night for USC.

Of course, we should have seen the rough game coming for USC given Stanford's treatment of the Trojans' drum major, who was breathalyzed before entering the stadium.

It wasn't all violent hits and upsets, as two Nebraska fans got in early to see the Cornhuskers play and rebound from their loss to UCLA a week ago.

Jake Stoneburner helped Ohio State beat Cal, and this picture summed up the Bears'defense at times. Meanwhile, Florida State finally beat an FBS opponent and looked so sharp doing so that EJ Manuel decided to do a little "Griffining."

Great shot on the left of Auburn's Hail Mary at the half that helped War Eagle narrowly escape the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. As for the Boise State fan on the right, this is perhaps one reason why the program can't find a major conference to play football in.

They supposed to be the SEC? Western Kentucky asked that question once again after beating Kentucky.

There were some cool moments in Knoxville as a big-game atmosphere finally returned, from Vol Walk with Smokey to Johnny Majors getting his number retired at halftime. At the end of the evening, though, the game ended just as it had been as of late for Tennessee, with Florida celebrating.

TCU grabbed the program's first ever Big 12 win after going on the road to beat Kansas in a game in which the score was much closer than the contest itself. In Eugene, De'Anthony Thomas was electric once again as he helped Oregon coast to an easy win.

Miami freshman Duke Johnson dazzled once again and gave the few fans in attendance at the Hurricanes' home opener quite the show as he scored four touchdowns.

In what might have been the biggest upset in terms of shock value, Pittsburgh got out in front of Virginia Tech and then kept making life miserable for Logan Thomas -- who looked awful for the most part.

It was not pretty for Arkansas, and we'll just leave it at that. As we saw on CBS, the champion this season looks (again) to be built by Saban.

It was a highlight-reel kind of day for Clemson against Furman for the most part, with Sammy Watkins making it into the game for the first time this season and promptly giving the Heisman to a poor defender. Meanwhile, Denard Robinson did a little "Tebowing" as Michigan rolled once again.

It's a brutal early-season schedule for Washington, so an easy win at home to get the team's morale up was a good thing for Steve Sarkisian and the Huskies.

The Ramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech looked unstoppable running the option while, farther north, Bill O'Brien picked up his first win at Penn State.

It was a record-breaking night for South Carolina as Steve Spurrier notched his 200th career coaching win against UAB and running back Marcus Lattimore set a school record with his 34th career rushing touchdown.

Michigan State looked good during its walk into the stadium in the evening. But by late Saturday night, it was a different story for the Spartans. Notre Dame used a punishing defense to leave the state with a win for the first time under Brian Kelly despite the best efforts of Le'Veon Bell.
