Fedotov agreed to terms on a two-year, $6.5 million contract extension with Philadelphia on Tuesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Fedotov played just three games for the Flyers this season after coming over from the KHL, going 0-1-1 with a 4.96 GAA and .811 save percentage. With an extension in hand, it seems Fedotov and Samuel Ersson will battle it out for the starting gig during training camp in the fall.

Fedotov entered the contest midway through the second period after Samuel Ersson allowed five goals on 17 shots. Ersson is struggling mightily, posting a 5.37 GAA and a .787 save percentage across his past six outings. However, Fedotov hasn't shown himself to be a viable alternative -- the 27-year-old netminder is 0-1-1 with a 4.96 GAA and an .811 save percentage in three appearances this season. Philadelphia's recent goaltending struggles have caused the squad to slip out of a playoff spot, and it's not clear if either netminder will step up in time.

Making his first start for the Flyers, the 27-year-old Russian got a rude welcome to the NHL -- Tage Thompson deked him out of his shorts to open the scoring, he was beaten high blocker side twice, and Fedotov was caught out of position on a rebound on the Sabres' final tally. Philadelphia has lost six straight games but is still clinging to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, topping a pack of five teams within four points of each other, which includes Buffalo. The Flyers could use a jolt of energy, but Fedotov's initial performances in the crease haven't suggested he'll be able to provide one.

Fedotov will make his first NHL start after giving up two goals on 21 shots in relief of Samuel Ersson on Monday against the Islanders. Fedotov went 21-22-1 with a 2.37 GAA and a .914 save percentage in 44 appearances with KHL CSKA Moscow before joining the Flyers in late March. The Sabres are tied for 19th in NHL scoring with 229 goals.

The tallest goaltender in NHL history came into Monday's game in relief of Samuel Ersson, posting a .905 save percentage. While Fedotov is intriguing, the 27-year-old is untested in NHL action, and it's hard to know what to expect going forward. There is risk in rostering him, but he could get some looks with Ersson looking overworked late in the season.
