Devils' Nico Daws: Gives up five goals Wednesday
Daws stopped 22 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Red Wings. The fifth goal was an empty-netter with 10 seconds left in the third period.
This was Daws' first regular-season loss, and it was a subpar showing for the 24-year-old. Daws ends the campaign with a 3-1-0 across his six appearances, posting a 1.60 GAA and a .939 save percentage, albeit in a limited sample size.

Devils' Nico Daws: Starting regular-season finale
Daws will draw the home start against the Red Wings on Wednesday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Daws was called up by the Devils on Wednesday, and he'll officially draw the start in the team's regular-season finale, while Jake Allen will serve as the backup. Daws has made five appearances for New Jersey this year, going 3-0-0 with a 0.88 GAA and .966 save percentage. He could stay with the big club as extra goaltending depth since AHL Utica is not in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Devils' Nico Daws: Recalled by New Jersey
Daws was recalled from AHL Utica on Wednesday.
The Devils have already clinched a spot in the postseason, so Daws will join the NHL club ahead of the regular-season finale at home against the Red Wings on Wednesday. The Devils haven't yet announced a starter for Wednesday's matchup, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Daws tend the twine if Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen need some rest ahead of the playoffs. Daws will presumably head back to the minors before postseason play begins.

Devils' Nico Daws: Assigned to AHL
Daws was assigned to AHL Utica on Sunday.
Daws has played well over three appearances since the 4 Nations Face-Off break, posting a 2-0-0 record, 0.49 GAA and .981 save percentage. However, he'll head back to the minors after Jacob Markstrom (knee) was activated off injured reserve.

Devils' Nico Daws: Sharp in win over Utah
Daws allowed a goal on 25 shots in Saturday's 3-1 win over Utah.
Daws has won all three of his starts at the NHL level this season, and they've all come on the road over the last month. He's allowed just three goals on 88 shots over five appearances in total. Daws was able to limit the damage Saturday to a Mikhail Sergachev goal midway through the contest. Jake Allen hasn't been at his best lately, allowing Daws a brief chance to claim more playing time before Jacob Markstrom (knee) returns to action. The Devils are in action again Sunday in Vegas, which will likely be a start for Allen.

Devils' Nico Daws: Defending crease Saturday
Daws will guard the road goal against Utah on Saturday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
In his last start, Daws stopped 29 shots in a 5-0 win over Nashville on Sunday. He has stopped 61 of 63 shots en route to a 2-0-0 record in four NHL appearances this season. Utah is tied for 21st in the league with 2.83 goals per game in 2024-25.

Devils' Nico Daws: Makes brief relief appearance
Daws played the final 1:42 of Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche and did not face a shot.
Jake Allen was on the hook for all five goals, including three in a span of 4:04 late in the third period. Daws' time on the NHL roster may be coming to a close soon, as Jacob Markstrom (knee) is practicing with the Devils during their current five-game road trip. That leaves the goaltending plans a bit up in the air for this weekend's back-to-back (Saturday at Utah, Sunday at Vegas). If Markstrom is not cleared to return for either of those games, Daws would likely split the starts with Allen.

Devils' Nico Daws: Posts 29-save shutout
Daws recorded a 29-save shutout in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Predators.
Daws has made three appearances this season, and while that's not enough to generate a strong enough sample size, there's no doubt he's turned heads so far. Over those three outings, including two starts, Daws has given up just two goals across 61 shots. The 24-year-old should get the chance to return to the ice at some point during the Devils' current road trip, as the team's next four games will be away from home.

Daws served as the backup for Saturday's contest. The 24-year-old netminder made two appearances (one start) during this stint in the NHL, stopping 32 of 34 shots and going 1-0-0. Devils' Nico Daws: Escapes with shootout win Tuesday
Daws stopped 25 shots in regulation and overtime and five of seven shootout attempts in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Penguins.
The Devils took a 2-0 lead midway through the second period on Jack Hughes' second goal of the night, but Daws saw the lead slip away before the end of regulation. The 24-year-old netminder was then able to outduel Alex Nedeljkovic in the shootout to pick up his first NHL win of the season. New Jersey plays twice more before the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, at home Thursday against the Golden Knights and then Saturday in Montreal, but Jake Allen seems likely to get the nod in both those games. With Jacob Markstrom (knee) not expected back until at least early March, Daws may have to wait until after the break before he gets another start for the Devils.

Devils' Nico Daws: Plays third period Sunday
Daws stopped all seven shots he faced in relief of Jake Allen in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Sabres.
Allen's poor performance earned him a trip to the bench after two periods. Daws did well in mop-up duty, allowing the Devils to attempt a comeback that fell a goal short. This was Daws' first NHL appearance of the season after he went 9-11-0 with a 3.15 GAA and an .894 save percentage over 21 appearances in 2023-24. The Devils don't have a back-to-back set in the last week before the 4 Nations Face-Off, but it's possible the 24-year-old netminder will get a start in one of those three games anyway.

Devils' Nico Daws: Returned to minors
Daws was reassigned to AHL Utica on Monday.
Daws' demotion is an indication that Jake Allen (upper body) will be ready to at least serve as the backup against St. Louis on Tuesday. Last season, the 23-year-old Daws saw action in 21 regular-season games for the Devils in which he went 9-11-0 with a 3.15 GAA. Daws has yet to get into the lineup for New Jersey this season, playing all of his games in the minors so far this year.

Devils' Nico Daws: Loaned to AHL affiliate
Daws was reassigned to AHL Utica on Sunday.
Daws posted a 9-11-0 record with a 3.15 GAA and an .894 save percentage in 21 appearances with New Jersey during the 2023-24 regular season. He could be back with the Devils if Jacob Markstrom or Jake Allen suffer injuries in 2024-25.

Devils' Nico Daws: Pens two-year deal
Daws inked a two-year contract with New Jersey on Tuesday.
Daws' contract is a two-way deal in year one before it converts to a one-way in the second season. It's an unsurprising clause when you consider the team has both Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen under contract for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign. Look for Daws to spend nearly the entire season in the minors with AHL Utica -- unless Markstrom or Allen picks up an injury at some point.

Devils' Nico Daws: Headed for minors
Daws was reassigned to AHL Utica on Monday.
Daws managed just one win in his last five outings, posting a 1-3-0 record and 2.88 GAA. With new additions Jake Allen and Kaapo Kahkonen available, Daws was the odd man out and figures to spend the remainder of the campaign in the minors, barring an injury to one of the aforementioned backstops.
