  • Tony Brooks-James: Waived by Pittsburgh

The Steelers waived Brooks-James on Saturday. Brooks-James was one of nine players that were let go by the Steelers on Saturday as they try to get down to the mandatory 53-man roster by Tuesday. After being signed Aug. 3, the 26-year-old made the most of his opportunities during training camp. He led the Steelers with nine carries for 51 yards in their second preseason game, but he ultimately couldn't climb Kalen Ballage and Jaylen Samuels on the depth chart.

  • Steelers' Tony Brooks-James: Top rusher in preseason win

Brooks-James recorded nine carries for 51 yards while hauling in one of his two targets for one yard in Thursday's 24-16 preseason win over the Eagles. Brooks-James didn't take the field in last week's Hall of Fame Game since he didn't sign with the team until Aug. 3, but he saw increased looks out of the backfield with Kalen Ballage (lower body) and Benny Snell (undisclosed) unavailable. He led the team with 51 rushing yards and 5.7 yards per carry, but he's likely still behind Ballage, Snell, Trey Edmunds and Anthony McFarland on the depth chart since all of them are more proven as depth players.

  • Steelers' Tony Brooks-James: Resurfaces in Pittsburgh

Brooks-James signed a contract with the Steelers on Tuesday. Brooks-James spent time in Pittsburgh back in 2019, when he suited up for three games with the team and took eight carries for seven yards. This time around, Brooks-James will be facing steep competition for depth opportunities. Trey Edmunds, Kalen Ballage, Jaylen Samuels and Anthony McFarland are all more proven reserve players.

The Falcons waived Brooks-James on Monday, Scott Blair of the team's official site reports. Brooks-James was cut to make room for new signings Emmanuel Ellerbee and Jason Spriggs on the 90-man roster. • Falcons' Tony Brooks-James: Sticking with Falcons

The Falcons signed Brooks-James to a reserve/future contract Monday, Will McFadden of the team's official site reports. Brooks-James suited up in one game for the Falcons in 2020, recording four yards on three carries. There's plenty of uncertainty regarding the Falcons' backfield heading into the 2021 season, but Brooks-James likely isn't in the mix. He'll aim to secure a special-teams role.

  • Tony Brooks-James: Moves back down to practice squad

Brooks-James reverted to the Falcons' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. The Oregon product fielded three rushes over six offensive snaps during Sunday's 43-6 blowout of Las Vegas, generating only four yards in his Falcons debut. Starter Todd Gurley (knee) was ruled out against the Raiders after being unable to practice all week, providing Brooks-James with his first game appearance since he suited up for Pittsburgh during November of last year.

  • Vikings' Tony Brooks-James: Rejoins Vikings

Brooks-James signed a contract with the Vikings on Saturday, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. That didn't take long. One week after being waived by the Vikings, the team re-signed the undrafted running back. It'll be interesting to see if he's near the bottom of the barrel in terms of roster status in future weeks, but at least for now, the speedy back will attempt to contend for a spot on the final 53-man roster.

  • Steelers' Tony Brooks-James: Held in check

Brooks-James ran for 11 yards on six carries in Sunday's 17-12 win over the Rams. With James Conner (shoulder) and Benny Snell (knee) both out of commission again, Brooks-James recorded the first positive yardage of his career. After rushing once for no yards in Week 9 and losing two yards on his first carry against the Rams, Brooks-James finally gained positive yardage on his next two carries, both on Pittsburgh's only offensive possession to result in a touchdown. If Conner or Snell returns in Week 11 against Cleveland, Brooks-James likely heads back to the practice squad.

  • Steelers' Tony Brooks-James: Gets first NFL carry

Brooks-James ran once for no gain in Sunday's 26-24 win over the Colts. Lacking running back depth due to injuries to both James Conner (shoulder) and Benny Snell Jr. (knee), Pittsburgh promoted Brooks-James from the practice squad earlier in the week. Fortunately, Trey Edmunds (17 carries for 73 yards) and Jaylen Samuels (13 catches for 73 yards and 8 carries for 10 yards) allowed the Steelers to keep Brooks-James on the sidelines most of the game. Edmunds was seen nursing a rib injury late in the game, but even if Brooks-James remains on the active roster and is forced into action in Week 10, the Rams have held opposing running backs to an average of 3.4 YPC in the past three games.
