  • 49ers' Tavon Wilson: Lands in San Fran

The 49ers are signing Wilson to a one-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Wilson split the first eight years of his career evenly between the Patriots and Lions before spending time with the Colts in 2020. The veteran now stands to bolster the 49ers' secondary depth, a role which will make him unlikely to pop up on the IDP radar unless starters in front of him go down.

  • Colts' Tavon Wilson: Starting Week 13

Wilson will start at strong safety Sunday at Houston, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. The veteran safety has played a minor defensive role this season but will start this weekend with Khari Willis (back/quadriceps) ruled out. Wilson had 98 total tackles and one sack while starting 13 of 16 games for the Lions in 2019.

  • Colts' Tavon Wilson: Joins Indy

Wilson signed with the Colts on Tuesday. Wilson bounced in and out of the starting lineup in Detroit over the past four seasons, with his stint highlighted by last year's career-high 98 tackles. The 30-year-old could serve as the No. 3 safety in Indianapolis, where Malik Hooker and Khari Willis are expected to be the starters. The team also has rookie third-round pick Julian Blackmon, but he's still rehabbing from an ACL tear he suffered in December.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Good to go Sunday

Wilson (hamstring) is officially active for Sunday's matchup with the Packers. Wilson was listed as questionable despite finishing the week with a full practice Friday, so it's not a major surprise he's suiting up for the finale. The 29-year-old should work in his usual every-down role at strong safety for Detroit.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Practices Wednesday

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Inactive Sunday

Wilson (back) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Packers. Wilson will miss his first game of the season after leaving Week 4's game against Dallas in the first quarter. His absence will open the door for Tracy Walker to see an uptick in snaps.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Practicing Wednesday

Wilson (back) was a limited participant in Wednesday's pratice, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. Wilson's mere availability at the first practice of the week is a great sign considering the veteran wasn't cleared to return after exiting last Sunday's game in Dallas with an unspecified back injury. We'll see if he's able to avoid any setbacks as the week unfolds.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Limited in spring practices

Wilson (shoulder) did not participate in the team portions of mandatory minicamp, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports. Wilson's 2017 campaign was cut short by a shoulder injury that planted him on injured reserve for the season's final six games. While there's been no indication that the veteran will remain limited when training camp rolls around in late July, it wouldn't be a complete surprise if he's prevented from taking part in select drills, either. Should he continue to miss time, Quandre Diggs will likely fill in on the first-team defense, though Miles Killebrew could also see some snaps in Wilson's stead as well.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Staying in Detroit

Wilson (shoulder) signed a two-year, $7 million contract to stay with the Lions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Wilson averaged 5.8 tackles per game while serving as Detroit's starting strong safety the past two seasons, adding three sacks and three interceptions in 25 games. Quandre Diggs impressed as a starting safety after Wilson landed on injured reserve in late November, but the Lions could move Diggs back to slot corner if they want to consistently keep both players on the field. New head coach Matt Patricia may believe Wilson fits best as a third safety -- still an important part of the defense -- rather than as a starter. It'll be hard to recommend either Wilson or Diggs for IDP purposes until there's some clarity regarding Patricia's intentions. In any case, Wilson should have plenty of time to recover from last season's shoulder injury before the start of training camp.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Set for free agency

Wilson (shoulder) will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the league year and isn't guaranteed to return to the Lions in 2018, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Wilson was playing well before being sentenced to injured reserve in late November. However, Quandre Diggs stepped in and performed admirably in his place, perhaps making Wilson expendable in the process. It doesn't help Wilson's chances of returning to Detroit that head coach Jim Caldwell and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin were fired.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Officially hits IR

Wilson (shoulder) was officially placed on injured reserve Monday. After Wilson aggravated a shoulder injury for a third time this season in the Lions' Thanksgiving Day loss to the Vikings, the team decided to shut the safety down so he could undergo surgery. Rolan Milligan was signed off the practice squad in a corresponding move to fill Wilson's spot on the 53-man roster and restore depth in the secondary.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Notches another sack

Wilson accrued seven tackles and one sack during Sunday's 38-24 victory over the Browns. Wilson notched his second sack of the year Sunday, which marks the first time in his six-campaign career that he's logged more than one sack in a single season. He's now averaging seven tackles per contest in his past five games and certainly merits IDP consideration entering a Week 11 matchup with the Bears.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Logs 40 snaps Friday

Wilson (shoulder) totaled three tackles in Friday's preseason loss to the Patriots. Wilson donned a no-contact jersey in training camp, so it was good to see him flying around Friday. He logged 40 snaps in total and seems locked in as the starting strong safety ahead of Week 1. It's possible ascending backup Miles Killebrew could push him for playing time as the year goes on, but it's more likely that the Lions get Killebrew more action through the usage of three-safety sets than by taking Wilson off the field entirely.

  • Lions' Tavon Wilson: Sitting out with mystery ailment

Wilson (undisclosed) sat out of Tuesday's practice after Monday's injury, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports. It's tough to say when Wilson will be back since the nature of his injury hasn't been released. Updates should become available soon, granted Wilson doesn't become cleared soon. The 27-year-old logged 89 tackles, two interceptions and two pass breakups last season.
