  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Returned to AHL affiliate

Wolf was reassigned to AHL Calgary on Tuesday. Jacob Markstrom (upper body) will return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against Montreal, so the Flames are no longer in need of Wolf's services in goal, although it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a few more looks at the NHL level as the season unfolds. Wolf, who is widely considered Calgary's goalie of the future, made his second NHL start Saturday versus Ottawa, allowing four goals on 38 shots en route to a 4-1 defeat.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Strong play but no help from mates

Wolf made 34 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Senators on Saturday. Wolf didn't get much help from his teammates despite a strong showing in his season debut with the Flames. He was beaten on a tip-in, a batted-in puck, a two-on-one and a tic-tac one-timer -- how do you stop many or any of those? Wolf is the Flames' netminder of the future after piling up a truckload of awards. He was the WHL's top goalie twice and the CHL's best once. He has also won a World Junior gold medal, two AHL-best goalie awards and one AHL MVP. But he needs help. Wolf is in tough in single-year leagues, but is a strong dynasty hold.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Makes season debut Saturday

Wolf will defend the visiting crease versus Ottawa on Saturday. Wolf is the Flames' goaltender of the future and he has been sensational at the AHL level. He went 33-9-4 with a 2.35 GAA and .924 save percentage two seasons ago, then posted a 42-10-2 mark to go with a 2.09 GAA and .932 save percentage last season. Wolf was 5-1-0 in the AHL before his recall this season. He'll make his second career NHL start Saturday, as he defeated San Jose 3-1 at the end of last season, stopping 23 shots. Wolf will face the Senators, who have scored 46 goals in 12 games this season.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Rises to top level

Wolf was recalled by the Flames on Thursday, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports. Dan Vladar has struggled as the Flames' No. 2 netminder this season, posting an ugly 4.00 GAA and .844 save percentage through three appearances, so if Wolf gets into a few games and performs well, he could conceivably take over as the team's backup behind Jacob Markstrom. Wolf has gone 5-1-0 while posting an admirable 2.34 GAA and .924 save percentage through six AHL appearances this season.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Sent down

Wolf was reassigned to AHL Calgary on Thursday, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports. Wolf is considered the Flames' goaltender of the future. He was sent down to get in playing time, as Jacob Markstrom is expected to be the No. 1 netminder and Dan Vladar will be the backup going into the 2023-24 campaign. Expect Wolf to be recalled if Markstrom struggles like he did in 2022-23. Wolf posted a mark of 41-9-2 with a 2.08 GAA and a .932 save percentage in 53 AHL games last season.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Wins NHL debut

Wolf stopped 23 of 24 shots in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Sharks. Wolf gave up the opening goal to Noah Gregor, but otherwise was solid, continuing his strong play from a fantastic AHL campaign. The 21-year-old Wolf is set to return to AHL Calgary for its playoff run, but this first taste of NHL play is encouraging. He could contend for the backup role behind Jacob Markstrom next fall.
