Summers was waived by the Jaguars on Saturday, John Shipley of SI.com reports. Summers spent the majority of the preseason and training camp with the Packers but was waived in the final days of roster cutdown. His time with the Jaguars was short-lived, but he's likely to find a new opportunity around the league after proving to be a viable special-teams contributor earlier in his career.... See More ... Ty Summers: Waived by Green Bay
The Packers waived Summers on Sunday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Summers was drafted by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft and appeared in 46 games across three years in Green Bay, though he mostly played on special teams. The Packers re-signed De'Vondre Campbell and spent a first-round pick on Quay Walker this offseason, which pushed Summers further down the depth chart. However, Summers was still expected to compete with Isaiah McDuffie for a special-teams gig, but the latter has outplayed the former during training camp. Regardless, per Rapoport, the seventh-round pick should get some looks while on the waiver wire.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Goes on injured reserve
Summers (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Friday. Summers had already been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Browns. His move to IR will put him out for the rest of the regular season, with a chance to return in the playoffs. Selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft, Summers has primarily contributed on special teams, so his absence shouldn't impact the Packers' defense.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Won't play Saturday
Summers (hamstring) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Browns, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports. Summers was unable to practice throughout the week. He's played primarily on special teams this year but will be unavailable Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Seven tackles Monday
Summers recorded seven tackles (six solo) across 52 defensive snaps in Monday's win over the Falcons. Summers has slotted in nicely for Christian Kirksey (shoulder) over the past two weeks, totaling 16 tackles in the contests. He only trails Preston Smith and Za'Darius Smith for defensive reps among linebackers during that stretch as well.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Ties for team lead in tackles
Summers stepped in for an injured Christian Kirksey (shoulder) in Sunday's victory over the Saints and tied for the team lead with nine total tackles. Summers had never logged a defensive snap until Sunday, but he was pressed into duty after Kirksey left the game and wound up playing the most snaps among the Packers' inside linebackers. Summers will presumably assume Kirksey's spot in the starting lineup -- a position that leads to a lot of tackles in Mike Pettine's defense -- should Kirksey miss more time.... See More ... Packers' Ty Summers: Suffers possible head injury
Summers left Sunday's game against the Panthers and is being evaluated for a concussion. Summers was on the wrong end of a direct head-to-head hit late in the second quarter and needed help getting to the sideline. He'll need to be cleared from the NFL's independent neurologist in order to return to action. In his stead, Oren Burks is in line to see an uptick in depth linebacker snaps.... See More ... Packers' Ty Summers: Flashes in final opportunity
Summers had five tackles (three solo) and returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale. Summers hit the 10-tackle mark twice over the Packers' first three preseason games, and he made a big play in his final chance to impress his coaches. He has done about all he can to come away with a spot on the Packers' roster for Week 1.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Another 10-tackle effort
Summers had 10 tackles (nine solo) in Thursday's preseason loss to the Ravens. Summers accumulated 10 tackles for the second time in three preseason games, so he's faring well in the output department. The Packers are pretty banged up at the inside linebacker position, so Summers -- an undrafted free agent -- is in decent position to earn a roster spot.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Sidelined Wednesday
Summers didn't participate in Wednesday's OTA practice due to a hamstring injury, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. A seventh-round pick in April, Summers is competing for a reserve role in the Packers' linebacking corps. He'll need to shake off the injury by the time training camp rolls around to ensure he wins a spot on the Week 1 roster.... See More ... See Less -
Packers' Ty Summers: Drafted by Green Bay
The Packers selected Summers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 226th overall. Well, it took until the Packers' last draft pick, but they finally added a middle linebacker in the form of Summers. The TCU product struggled in pass coverage, primarily providing value as a pass-rushing inside linebacker and two-down thumper, so it's safe to say 2018 third-round pick Oren Burks should be considered the frontrunner to start opposite Blake Martinez despite failing to impress in limited work during his rookie campaign....
