  • Peter Moylan: Announces retirement

Moylan has decided to retire, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

The 40-year-old will call it quits after his 2018 season was cut short due to a forearm injury. Moylan spent parts of 12 seasons in the majors, compiling a career 3.97 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 418.2 innings of relief with the Braves, Dodgers and Royals.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Moved to 60-day DL

Moylan (forearm) suffered a setback and was shifted to the 60-day disabled list.

Moylan aggravated his right forearm strain during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday and will be sidelined for the rest of the 2018 season. The Braves announced that he was returned from the minor leagues and then moved off the 40-man roster, which will allow for another member of the Braves' organization to earn a call-up once rosters expand this weekend. Technically, Moylan will be eligible to return from the DL in late September, but that would come as a huge surprise considering it's been over a month since he initially sustained the injury and he had yet to return.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Embarks on rehab assignment

Moylan (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Moylan is expected to require multiple appearances at the Triple-A level after landing on the DL in late July due to a right forearm strain. On the year, he's logged a 4.45 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across 28.1 innings of relief.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Slated for live BP

Moylan (forearm) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Saturday, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.

If all goes well during Saturday's session against live hitters, Moylan could be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett sometime next week. The veteran right-hander has been on the shelf all month with a forearm strain, but he could be back in the big-league in September if all goes well in his rehab.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Out with another forearm strain

Moylan was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right forearm strain Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to July 29, so Moylan could be eligible to return Aug. 8, but this is the second forearm strain the veteran has suffered this season, which makes that seem less likely. Forearm strains sometimes foreshadow a more serious diagnosis, which would not be a good sign at all for the 39-year-old at this stage in his career. Kolby Allard was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Activated from disabled list

Moylan (forearm) was reinstated from the disabled list Saturday.

The 39-year-old struggled to a 4.85 ERA in 26 innings prior to suffering a forearm strain in early July. His walk rate spiked to 14.1 percent, leading to a high 1.85 WHIP. Arodys Vizcaino (shoulder) hit the disabled list in a corresponding move.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Placed on disabled list

Moylan was put on the 10-day DL with a right forearm strain Monday.

Moylan will be eligible to return from the shelf July 13, but it's unclear how much time he'll miss after he appeared to suffer this injury during Sunday's contest. Across 36 appearances this year, he's posted a 4.85 ERA and 1.85 WHIP.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Scuffles in relief Wednesday

Moylan walked two of three batters he faced in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Nationals before being pulled with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.

After starter Mike Foltynewicz allowed a one-out double, Moylan got the call from the bullpen and retired only one hitter while proceeding to load the bases with the two free passes. Fortunately for Foltynewicz and Moylan, Sam Freeman was able to strike out Ryan Zimmerman with the bases loaded to end the Washington threat and spare both pitchers damage to their ERAs. All four of Moylan's appearances this season have spanned less than an inning, so it's likely that manger Brian Snitker will continue to pick his spots carefully with the 39-year-old right-hander, who has held same-handed hitters to a .207/.272/.300 line for his career.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Inks major-league deal with Atlanta

Moylan signed a one-year, $575,000 contract with the Braves on Monday,

Moylan and the Braves had been in discussions on a contract the last several days, but the terms of the deal weren't known until the 39-year-old completed a three-hour physical Monday. The Aussie sidearmer returns to the organization he started his career with on a major-league contract that escalates to $1.25 million if he's included on the Braves' Opening Day roster. After sitting out the 2014 campaign following his second Tommy John surgery, Moylan has enjoyed a nice late-career surge, accruing a 3.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 96 holds over the past three seasons, the last two of which came with the Royals. Look for him to settle into a situational setup role for the Braves if he makes it out of the spring healthy.

  • Braves' Peter Moylan: Agrees to deal with Atlanta

Moylan and the Braves came to terms on a contract Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Moylan will take a physical later Monday before it's revealed whether he received a minor- or major-league contract, but either way, the 39-year-old, who had two previous stints with Atlanta from 2006 to 2012 and in 2015, should have a great shot at claiming an Opening Day roster spot in light of his success in Kansas City in 2017. The Aussie made 79 appearances out of the Royals bullpen last season, registering a 3.49 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 59.1 innings. He was especially effective against right-handed batters, holding them to a .161/.244/.236 line.

  • Royals' Peter Moylan: Picks up 21st hold Tuesday

Moylan gave up a hit during a scoreless eighth inning against the White Sox on Tuesday en route to his 21st hold of the year.

The veteran has crept his way into the top five for holds among his AL counterparts. Moylan has appeared in 70 games for the Royals this season, managing a 3.67 ERA and 1.09 WHIP while topping 20 holds for the third time in his 11-year career.

  • Royals' Peter Moylan: Locks up 18th hold Sunday

Moylan retired the only batter he faced Sunday in Minnesota to notch his team-leading 18th hold of the season.

A few implosions early in the year continue to vandalize Moylan's ERA (4.04), but the 11-year veteran has actually put together one of his finest campaigns. Since May 24, opponents have slashed just .130/.213/.217 against Moylan, and his .190 wOBA is tops among AL relievers during that stretch.

  • Royals' Peter Moylan: Sees scoreless streak snapped Monday

Moylan's streak of 19 consecutive games without allowing an earned run came to an end Monday vs. St. Louis.

The side-winder set down the Cardinals in order during a quick seventh inning. He exited in the eighth frame after allowing a leadoff single to Yadier Molina, who later scored on a two-run homer given up by Ryan Buchter. Moylan's streak spanned 16.2 innings and dated back to June 27. Molina's run was just the third he's allowed in his last 33 games, a span in which he's posted a 1.07 ERA while limiting opponents to a .126 BAA. The veteran's 14 holds are one shy of the team lead, while his 54 games are most among all Royals pitchers.

  • Royals' Peter Moylan: Racks up another clean appearance

Moylan pitched a clean ninth inning in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Dodgers.

The 38-year-old veteran's ERA (5.28) continues to be scarred by a handful of atrocious outings earlier in the season, but he hasn't been nearly as bad as what's seen on the surface. His ERA has been steadily deflating for nearly two months, and Moylan owns a beautiful 1.15 ERA with 18 strikeouts over his last 20 appearances. Furthermore, he's converted all 11 of his hold chances this year, tying him with setup man Joakim Soria for most on the team.

  • Royals' Peter Moylan: Scoops up ninth hold Wednesday

Moylan picked up his ninth hold Wednesday in San Francisco.

After logging six holds in 11 May games, it took seven appearances this month for Moylan to pick up his first of June. The veteran has allowed just one run over his last nine contests while managing an 8:1 K:BB in seven innings. Moylan's nine holds this year are second only to his career-high 21 with the Braves in 2010.
