Midnight ET Wednesday night was a rather significant offseason deadline. It was the deadline for clubs to tender contract offers to their pre-arbitration and arbitration-eligible players. Any players who were not tendered contracts are now free agents.

In most cases the tender is a mere formality. However, there are also instances in which teams cut ties and non-tender a player because his salary -- usually through the arbitration system -- exceeds his on-field value. More than a few recognizable names became free agents Wednesday.

Here is a recap of Wednesday's hot stove news, starting with the 40 non-tendered players.
