Ogando (shoulder) was activated from the disabled list and outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.
Ogando has been on the disabled list all season, so it makes sense that the Reds would like him to spend an extended period of time with their Triple-A affiliate before entertaining the thought of bringing him up to the majors. If Ogando does make his way up to the big club this season, he'll likely be used in low-leverage situations.

Reds' Nefi Ogando: Moves rehab to Double-A
Ogando (shoulder) moved his rehab assignment to Double-A Pensacola on Tuesday, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Shoulder issues have kept Ogando on the disabled list all season, with the right-hander having been limited to four rehab appearances in the minors as his lone game action. After pitching three times in six days with the Reds' rookie-level Arizona League affiliate, Ogando will test himself against higher-quality competition as he looks to prove to the organization that he's back to full strength. Ogando was a fringe candidate to land a bullpen job with the Reds out of spring training even if health had prevailed, so once he's activated from the 60-day DL, there's a good chance he'll immediately be optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

Reds' Nefi Ogando: Shifted to 60-day DL
Ogando (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
While Ogando was initially placed on the disabled list with a hand injury, it's shoulder soreness that is expected to keep the right-handed hurler sidelined for extended time. The 27-year-old was scheduled to have his shoulder examined by team doctors this weekend in Cincinnati, so a firmer timetable for his return should become clearer once the results are available. Asher Wojciechowski's contract was purchased from Triple-A Louisville to take Ogando's place on the 40-man roster.

Although Ogando initially landed on the DL with a hand injury, it's his shoulder that's currently bothering him. The Pirates acquired infielder Phil Gosselin on Friday and needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Ogando, who was acquired in December, became the odd man out in what was already a crowded bullpen picture heading into spring training. Ogando was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Friday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
The Pirates picked up some bullpen help Friday by claiming the recently DFA'd Ogando. He notched a 2.30 ERA to go with a 1.15 WHIP over 14 relief appearances (15.2 IP) with the Marlins in 2016. He figures to slot in as a middle reliever for the Pirates provided that he breaks camp with a spot on the 25-man roster. The Pirates designated Jason Rogers for assignment in a corresponding move Friday.

With Junichi Tazawa coming aboard on a two-year deal, Ogando lost his spot, which is a little surprising given his success with the Marlins last season (2.30 ERA, 1.15 WHIP in 15.2 innings). However, Ogando had just an 8:8 K:BB over that span, and that serves as a decent microcosm of who he's been as a player -- he's battled control issues at every level and owns just a 7.4 K/9 in the minors.
