Devils' Tyler Toffoli: Sitting for trade-related reasons
Toffoli (not injury related) is expected to be held out of the lineup for Thursday night's game versus St. Louis due to trade-related reasons, The Fourth Period's Irfaan Gaffar reports.
With New Jersey's playoff hopes looking slim at best, the team appears to be set to try and recoup some assets in exchange for Toffoli, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Jets' Tyler Toffoli: Headed back to Canada
Toffoli was traded to the Jets by the Devils in exchange for a pair of draft picks Friday, Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports. Per TSN, New Jersey will receive a 2024 third-round pick and a 2025 second-round pick.
Toffoli will be playing for his fourth Canadian team, having previously suited up for Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. This season, the 31-year-old winger has racked up 26 goals and 15 helpers while playing for the Devils, including 14 power-play points. Toffoli has 10 points over his last 10 games, with half of them coming on the power play. The 31-year-old helped out on a Timo Meier tally in the first period before scoring one of his own in the third, though the Devils' comeback push fell just short. Toffoli has been as advertised for the Devils with 26 goals, 18 assists, 14 power-play points, 176 shots on net, 59 hits and a minus-11 rating over 59 appearances. He likely won't match the 73-point campaign he had in 2022-23, but he has a good chance to exceed 50 points for the third time in his career.
