Twins' Armando Alvarez: Signs minor-league deal with Twins
Alvarez signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Jan. 2.
Alvarez spent the 2024 campaign with the Athletics organization, batting .315 with 15 home runs, 54 RBI, 46 runs scored and four stolen bases over 75 games with Triple-A Las Vegas. Additionally, the 30-year-old played in 16 games with the A's, batting .243 with a double, two RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base over 37 at-bats. Alvarez will report to Triple-A St. Paul ahead of the 2025 season and he'll look to impress to potentially garner a shot with the Twins' major-league roster.

Josh Jung 3B | TEX
Rangers' Josh Jung: Fully recovered from wrist surgery
Jung said Thursday that he's "full-go" after right wrist surgery and doesn't anticipate any restrictions during spring training, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Jung missed most of the first four months of the 2024 season following surgery to repair four fractures in the wrist. He then underwent a follow-up procedure in October to alleviate irritation in the tendon, which Jung said has made a huge difference. The third baseman has been swinging a bat without issue and appears poised to enter camp next month with a clean bill of health. If he can stay off the injured list, Jung could bounce back in 2025 and regain the form he flashed as a rookie in 2023, when he put up a .781 OPS with 23 home runs.

Ramon Urias 3B | BAL
Orioles' Ramon Urias: Agrees to deal with O's
Urias and the Orioles agreed to a one-year, $3.2 million contract to avoid arbitration Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Urias is one of the top utility infield options in baseball, and he earned 301 plate appearances in 2024. He matched his career-best mark with a 115 wRC+, though he still had only 11 homers and one stolen base. Urias will earn a $1.1 million raise from 2024.

Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU
Astros' Isaac Paredes: Settles with Houston
Paredes agreed to a one-year, $6.625 million contract with the Astros on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Paredes slashed just .223/.325/.307 over 212 plate appearances after being dealt to the Cubs at last year's trade deadline. Despite his poor end to the season, he'll receive a $3.225 million raise from the Astros, who are expected to use the 25-year-old regularly at third base.

Royce Lewis 3B | MIN
Twins' Royce Lewis: Settles with Minnesota
The Twins and Lewis avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.625 million contract Thursday, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.
Lewis was in his first year of arbitration eligibility. The talented infielder slashed a disappointing .233/.295/.452 with 16 home runs over 82 games in an injury-shortened 2024 campaign.

DJ LeMahieu 3B | NYY
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Might be favorite to start at 3B
LeMahieu could be the current favorite to start at third base for the Yankees, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Sherman said Monday on the Pinstripe Post podcast that he believes the Yankees are "going to try to take another look at LeMahieu" and that LeMahieu's likeliest position is third base. Jazz Chisholm ended the 2024 season at the hot corner for the Yanks, but the club seems to prefer him at second base. It could all be a moot point if the team winds up acquiring a player at either of those positions, but for now, LeMahieu looks to be in line to handle the hot corner. The 36-year-old had just a .527 OPS over 67 games during an injury-shortened 2024 campaign.

Rafael Devers 3B | BOS
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Still at third base 'as of now'
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Devers is the team's third baseman "as of now," Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
The "as of now" part is the takeaway here. It's been reported that Boston has considered shifting Devers to first base, and that seems to still be in play if the club makes an outside addition at third base. The Red Sox have been connected to Alex Bregman via free agency and Nolan Arenado via trade this offseason.

Colt Keith 3B | DET
Tigers' Colt Keith: Moving to first base
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Friday that Keith will move to first base next season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The newly signed Gleyber Torres will take over as the Tigers' second baseman, shifting Keith over to the cold corner. Keith has never played first base in pro ball, but he's been working out there this offseason and the Tigers don't seem to have any concerns about his ability to adapt to the position. With Keith now at first base at least against righties, Spencer Torkelson's role on Detroit's roster looks unclear.

Gio Urshela 3B | ATH
Athletics' Gio Urshela: Inks one-year deal with A's
Urshela agreed to a one-year contract with the Athletics on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Urshela split time between Detroit and Atlanta last season and hit .250 with nine home runs and a .647 OPS. He was released by Detroit in August after slashing just .243/.286/.333, but he fared better with Atlanta by hitting .265 with a .711 OPS. Urshela still has a decent glove at third base as his Defensive Runs Saved ranked 18th at the position last season. He'll compete for a regular role this spring at third base, but he might be a better fit with the A's as a veteran bench player.
