Mendick went 2-for-4 on Monday against the Twins. Mendick began the season with Triple-A Charlotte but joined the big-league club Monday and made his debut while starting at third base. Braden Shewmake has picked up the majority of at-bats at the hot corner since Yoan Moncada (thigh) went down, though Shewmake is hitless in his last four starts and is just 5-for-35 overall. His struggles could open up more regular playing time for Mendick, though he has only a career .242 average and .112 ISO across 519 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Officially added to roster
The White Sox selected Mendick's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Mendick had been swinging a hot bat with Charlotte, having homered in five straight games. It's a power surge that's sure to slow in the majors given that the 30-year-old has slugged just 11 career home runs over 184 contests at the big-league level, but Mendick nonetheless will probably be in line to see regular action in the infield for Chicago in the short term. He'll start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's series opener in Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Expected to join big-league roster
Mendick is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Mendick has homered in five consecutive games with Charlotte and he'll now get a shot with the big-league club as the White Sox start a four-game series in Minnesota on Monday. Lenyn Sosa is expected to be optioned to Triple-A while it's currently unclear how the team will open up a spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Can't secure roster spot
Mendick will not make the White Sox's Opening Day roster, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Mendick was in camp on a minor-league deal and has maintained just a .614 OPS with three extra-base hits across 41 at-bats. The team will instead opt to keep Braden Shewmake on the roster, who should fill a utility role along the infield.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Will be in White Sox's camp
Mendick signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training. It's a return to the South Side for Mendick, who spent the first four seasons of his big-league career with the White Sox before putting up a .509 OPS in 33 games for the Mets in 2023. The utility man will attempt to win a reserve role.... See More ... See Less -
Danny Mendick: Opts for free agency
Mendick elected free agency Tuesday. Mendick went unclaimed on waivers after being pushed off the Mets' 40-man roster last week. The 30-year-old infielder slashed just .185/.232/.277 with one homer and one steal over 33 major-league games in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Booted from 40-man
The Mets placed Mendick on outright waivers Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Mendick slashed just .185/.232/.277 during his time with the Mets, and he'll now join five other teammates on the waiver wire as the team clears space on its 40-man roster. The 32-year-old infielder can elect free agency if he clears waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Recalled from Syracuse
The Mets recalled Mendick from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Mendick will provide depth off the bench after Jeff McNeil (elbow) was shut down for the final four games. Mendick, 30, has batted just .190/.227/.286 across 66 major-league plate appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Optioned to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Mendick to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. With the arrival of Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio to the major-league squad Friday, Mendick will be pushed back to the minors. The 29-year-old infielder slashed just .190/.227/.286 across 66 plate appearances with the Mets and will likely finish the season in Syracuse.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Enjoys big offensive effort Monday
Mendick went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and scored an additional run in an 11-2 rout of the Cubs on Monday. Pete Alonso powered the Mets with two homers early, and Mendick provided the icing on the cake with a three-run shot in the seventh inning that made the score 10-2. The long ball was the first of the campaign for Mendick and just his 11th in 440 career at-bats. The 29-year-old started at third base Monday in the wake of Brett Baty being sent down to the minors, and Mendick could operate in the short side of a platoon with Mark Vientos at the hot corner moving forward.... Mets' Danny Mendick: Recalled from Syracuse
The Mets recalled Mendick from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. Mendick has failed to record a hit or even a walk in seven plate appearances this season at the major-league level, but the Mets need infield depth with Luis Guillorme (calf) landing on the 10-day injured list Saturday.... Mets' Danny Mendick: Sent back to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Mendick to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Mendick went 0-for-7 with zero walks and one strikeout during his 10-day stay in the majors. DJ Stewart will take his place on New York's bench.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Promoted to majors
Mendick was recalled by the Mets on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The Mets are in need of infield depth after trading Eduardo Escobar to the Angels on Friday. Mendick fills that role reasonably well, as he's capable of playing across most of the infield. In 317 plate appearances with Triple-A Syracuse this season, he's maintained a .264/.356/.401 line. Mendick's stay in the majors may be short-lived, as Mark Vientos is a candidate to be recalled as soon as he is eligible to return to the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Sent to Triple-A
Mendick was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Mendick had a .619 slash line in 10 games during spring training and was unable to earn a spot on New York's Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old will serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Syracuse while Tim Locastro and Darin Ruf continue to battle for the final roster spot.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Danny Mendick: Cleared for spring debut
Mendick (knee) will start at second base and bat third Wednesday in the Mets' exhibition game against the Nicaraguan team, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Mendick will be making his spring debut in what marks his first competitive action since he tore the ACL in his right knee and fractured the fibula in his right leg while playing for the White Sox in a June 22, 2022 game. Before suffering the season-ending injury, Mendick was productive in a utility infield role for Chicago, slashing .289/.343/.443 across 106 plate appearances. After joining the Mets on a one-year, $1 million deal over the winter, Mendick should have a good chance of securing a spot on the Opening Day roster and potentially earning a short-side platoon role at second or third base.... Mets' Danny Mendick: Nearing spring debut
Mendick (knee) is expected to begin playing in Grapefruit League games within the next week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Mendick has been eased into action this spring after he suffered both a fractured fibula and a torn ACL in his right leg last June. The plan calls for him to get a lot of action at a lot of different spots once Mets camp thins out for the World Baseball Classic. The 29-year-old super-utilityman signed a one-year, $1 million contract with New York in December.... See More ... See Less -
Danny Mendick: Hits open market
The White Sox declined to tender Mendick (knee) a contract for 2023, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports. Mendick spent the final three months of the 2022 season on the injured list with a torn ACL. HIs availability for the start of spring training is up in the air.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Transferred to 60-day IL
The White Sox transferred Mendick (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday. Mendick was already going to miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, so the move to the 60-day IL is merely procedural. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Eloy Jimenez (hamstring), who is starting in Wednesday's series finale with the Twins after being activated from the 60-day IL.... White Sox's Danny Mendick: Dealing with right knee discomfort
Mendick is dealing with right knee discomfort after leaving Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays. Mendick is being further evaluated following his collision in the top of the second inning, but he's dealing with a knee issue. A better idea of his status ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Orioles should be revealed once he undergoes further testing.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Exits following collision
Mendick was removed from Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays in the top of the second inning due to an apparent right leg injury, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. The 28-year-old collided with Adam Haseley while chasing down a foul ball and was unable to put any weight on his right leg as he was helped off the field. Mendick had crossed the plate in each of the 10 games leading up to Wednesday's matchup, and he slashed .275/.356/.500 with two homers, a triple, a double, 12 runs, eight RBI and a stolen base during that time. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Thursday's series opener against Baltimore.... See More ... See Less
