  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Stepping out of lineup Wednesday

Toro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Toro will head to the bench for the first time since June 29, ending a stretch of eight consecutive starts during which he went 9-for-31 (.290 average) with a 4:4 BB:K. Romy Gonzalez will get the nod at first base Wednesday, but Toro still appears to be viewed as the Red Sox's preferred option at the position.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Fights out of slump

Toro went 2-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Nationals. Toro scuffled during the middle of June, going 8-for-46 (.174) across 14 games, but has turned it around. He's 10-for-27 (.370) with six walks and four RBI over the last eight contests. Toro maintains a hold as the primary starter at first base for now.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Taking seat Sunday

Toro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Toro started the first two games of the series and will take a seat Sunday after going 2-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs in Saturday's contest. The 28-year-old was slumping at the plate prior to that performance with a .174/.224/.261 slash line in his previous 14 games. Romy Gonzalez is stepping in at first base.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Bloom off rose

Toro went 0-for-4 in Friday's 9-0 loss to Toronto. Toro was a nice story earlier this month, but the corner infielder has been in a prolonged slump. After Friday's 0-fer, he's batting .138 (4-for-29) with one extra-base hit and zero RBI over the last nine games. He and Romy Gonzalez continue to serve as a band-aid at first base, but with Kristian Campbell getting starts at first base for Triple-A Worcester, a better option could emerge soon.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Sitting out second straight

Toro is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Angels. Toro is out of the lineup for a second straight day after starting the previous eight and 21 of the last 22 tilts. The Red Sox are facing a lefty (Yusei Kikuchi) for the second consecutive contest, and the switch-hitting Toro has been much better versus righties (.831 OPS, five home runs) than lefties (.679 OPS, zero home runs) this season. Romy Gonzalez and Nate Eaton will handle first base and third base, respectively.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Delivers two-out RBI in win

Toro went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Monday's 2-0 win over Seattle. Toro's two-out single in the third inning drove in Boston's second run. He's recently moved up the batting order against right-handers -- Toro hit third against the three previous righties faced -- and batted second Monday, the spot that had belonged to Rafael Devers for much of the season. He'll continue to hold the strong side of a platoon at first base and could get starts at third base when Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn't want to expose Marcelo Mayer to a southpaw. Toro is batting .317/.345/.538 with five home runs, eight doubles, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored over 30 games.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Has double-digit on-base streak

Toro started as first base and went 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 10-8 extra-innings loss to the Rays. There was much turmoil caused by Rafael Devers' refusal to play first base and Boston's scrapped experiment with Kristian Campbell to move there, but Toro may have been the answer all along. He's reached base safely in 10 consecutive games, going 17-for-40 (.425) with five doubles, one home run and seven RBI during the streak. Toro is slashing .333/.352/.563 over 25 games for Boston, but it's fair to question if he can sustain that over the long haul.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: Stays hot in win

Toro started at first base and went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 5-1 win over Atlanta. First base has been chaotic since Triston Casas (knee) suffered a season-ending injury, but Toro has made a case for himself. He's gone 14-for-42 (.333) with three home runs, four doubles, five RBI and seven runs scored over the last 12 games. However, the Red Sox intend to experiment with Kristian Campbell at first base for at least one game during this weekend's series in Atlanta.

  • Red Sox's Abraham Toro: NRI pact from Boston

The Red Sox signed Toro to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Toro slashed .240/.293/.350 with six homers in 94 games with the Athletics in 2024. The 28-year-old will compete for a reserve role this spring but will likely begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Worcester as utility depth.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Athletics outrighted Toro to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday after he cleared waivers. With none of MLB's other 29 teams putting in a waiver claim for Toro after he was designated for assignment Tuesday, the 27-year-old will stick around in the Oakland organization as infield depth at the Triple-A level. Toro slashed .240/.293/.350 with six home runs, four stolen bases, 26 RBI and 34 runs over 364 plate appearances with the Athletics before losing his spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: DFA'd by Oakland

The Athletics designated Toro for assignment Tuesday. The 27-year-old was acquired from the Brewers during the offseason but has now lost his place on the Athletics' 26-man and 40-man rosters. Toro has played in 94 games and posted a .240/.293/.350 slash line with six homers, four stolen bases, 26 RBI and 34 runs.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Taking seat Tuesday

Toro is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. Toro hasn't logged a multi-hit game since July 23, going 6-for-45 (.133) during that stretch. He'll yield to Darell Hernaiz at third base for the second time in three games.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Not in Saturday's lineup

Toro isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game versus Toronto. Toro will get a breather Saturday after going 0-for-4 during a loss in Friday's series opener. Darell Hernaiz will step in as Oakland's third baseman and bat seventh.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Idle Monday

Toro is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox. After starting four consecutive games, Toro will take a seat Monday against rookie starter Ky Bush and the White Sox. Darell Hernaiz will fill the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Idle Thursday

Toro isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Thursday's game versus the Angels. The switch-hitting Toro boasts a .783 OPS in 73 plate appearances against left-handers this season, but he will take a seat Thursday with southpaw Kenny Rosenberg on the mound. While Toro rests, Brett Harris will field the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Sitting Monday

Toro is not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the Astros. Toro, who was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday after recovering from a strained hamstring, went 0-for-4 in his first game since June 21. The team will likely bring the third baseman along slowly as he works his way back up to game speed. Brett Harris will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Houston right-hander Spencer Arrighetti.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Moves rehab to Triple-A

Toro (hamstring) had his rehab assignment shifted to Triple-A Las Vegas and will play at least two games with the Aviators before being re-evaluated, the Associated Press reports. Toro played three games for the ACL Athletics during the All-Star break and went 3-for-8 with a grand slam and two walks over that span. Now that the rest of the minor-league affiliates are back in action, the team wants to see how Toro does against a higher caliber of competition this weekend before evaluating him for possible activation from an IL stint that dates back to June 21.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Working out in Arizona

Toro (hamstring) has been working out at the Athletics' spring training complex in Arizona and could start a rehab assignment after the All-Star break, MLB.com reports. Toro's recovery seems to be picking up some momentum approximately three weeks in, and it appears he could be ready for a return to game action right at about the one-month mark from his placement on the IL, which transpired June 22. The versatile veteran had been a valuable contributor in all facets before the injury, so a return relatively early in the second half would be a welcome sight for both the team and fantasy managers.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Sidelined through All-Star break

Toro (hamstring) will be out at least through the All-Star break, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Toro landed on the injured list Saturday due to a Grade 1 strain of his right hamstring, and the A's have already determined that his absence will extend into the second half of the season. Tyler Nevin figures to see the majority of reps at third base until Toro returns, though Aledmys Diaz and Armando Alvarez may also pick up a few starts.

  • Athletics' Abraham Toro: Back in lineup Friday

Toro (shoudler) is starting at third base and hitting in the leadoff spot for Friday's series opener against the Twins. Shoulder soreness kept Toro out of the starting lineup in the Athletics' last three games, though he did pinch hit in the seventh inning of Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Royals. On the season, Toro is slashing .259/.300/.387 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI over 291 plate appearances.
