Sharks' Filip Zadina: Lands on IR
Zadina (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Zadina sat out Saturday's 4-3 win over Vancouver after he was injured in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal. He will miss at least the next three contests, starting with Monday's matchup against Washington. Zadina has three goals, two assists and 30 shots on net over 20 outings this season. In a corresponding move, Justin Bailey was added to the Sharks' roster after signing a one-year, two-way contract.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Not playing Saturday
Zadina (upper body) will be out of the lineup versus Vancouver on Saturday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Zadina left Friday's game against the Canadiens in the first period and didn't return. Friday's injury was an aggravation of a nagging injury Zacha had been playing through for a while. He has three goals and five points in 20 games in his first season with the Sharks after playing five seasons in Detroit.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Exits Friday's game
Zadina won't return to Friday's game against Montreal after sustaining an undisclosed injury.
Zadina logged just 4:14 of ice time before exiting the contest. Going into Friday's action, he had three goals and five points in 19 outings. Kevin Labanc (upper body) isn't playing Friday but was able to participate in the pregame warmups, so if Zadina isn't available Saturday versus Vancouver, then perhaps his exit will correspond with Labanc's return.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Dealing with upper-body issue
Zadina left Friday's game against Montreal due to a "nagging" upper-body injury, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Zadina put one shot on net while logging just 4:14 of ice time Friday. The 23-year-old has yet to miss a game this season but it sounds like he's been playing through a minor issue for some time. His status for Saturday's matchup with the Canucks is still unclear.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Nets game-winner
Zadina scored a goal in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Oilers.
Zadina tallied at 1:53 of the third period, and his goal stood as the game-winner. The 23-year-old snapped a nine-game point drought with the tally. He's at three goals, 20 shots on net and a minus-13 rating through 13 appearances this season. He played on the third line Thursday, but he's bounced around the lineup a bit as head coach David Quinn has searched for any chemistry among his forwards.

Zadina scored a power-play goal and added two PIM in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Zadina tied the game at 2-2 with a quick response to Jaccob Slavin's shorthanded marker in the second period. The goal was Zadina's second in three games this season. The 23-year-old has added eight shots on net and a minus-2 rating. He saw just 14:13 of ice time in this contest, though it's unclear if that's an indication Zadina may be losing his grip on a first-line role.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Scores in San Jose debut
Zadina scored a goal on four shots in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights.
Zadina's goal may have been about the only bright spot for the Sharks in this game. The 23-year-old was signed by the Sharks after he agreed to terminate his contract with the Red Wings. Zadina figures to get a larger opportunity in San Jose than he was ever afforded in Detroit, but how much that translates into production remains to be seen. He never posted more than 24 points in any of his five seasons with the Red Wings, but he's off to a solid start in 2023-24.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Ready to rock
Zadina (undisclosed) is expected to play in Tuesday's preseason matchup versus Vegas, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Injury likely not serious
Zadina sustained an undisclosed injury that isn't believed to be serious in Wednesday's game versus the Ducks, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.
Zadina was hurt in the third period and didn't return to the game, but it sounds like that was more of a precaution. The 23-year-old winger is trying to win a roster spot in training camp after signing a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Sharks following his previous deal with the Red Wings being terminated. If Zadina makes the team, he'll likely play in a bottom-six role.

Sharks' Filip Zadina: Agrees to terms with Sharks
Zadina inked a one-year, $1.1 million contract with San Jose on Monday.
Zadina collected 28 goals and 68 points in 190 games with Detroit over the past five seasons prior to having his contract terminated. The 23-year-old forward has failed to live up to expectations since being selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zadina will get a fresh start with the Sharks, and his offensive upside could make him a solid addition to the roster.

Filip Zadina: Red Wings will terminate contract
Zadina was placed on unconditional waivers by Detroit on Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract, per Chris Johnston of TSN.
Because this is a contract termination and not a buyout, Detroit will be completely rid of the final two seasons of Zadina's three-year, $5.475 million contract and won't have to deal with any cap penalty. Assuming Zadina goes unclaimed on unconditional waivers, which is likely since he was put on regular waivers Monday and cleared, he will become an unrestricted free agent. The 23-year-old had three goals and seven points in 30 contests while averaging 13:06 of ice time with the Red Wings last season.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Goes on waivers
Zadina (lower body) was placed on waivers Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
The move indicates that Zadina, who sat out the final 11 games of the 2022-23 campaign due to a lower-body issue, is healthy again. He produced seven points and 51 shots on goal in 30 appearances with Detroit last season. Zadina still has another two years left on his contract, carrying a $1.825 million cap hit.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Breakout campaign remains elusive
Zadina missed the final 11 games of the season with a lower-body injury, finishing with three goals and four assists through 30 games.
Ansar Khan of MLive.com suggests the young winger "might have trouble cracking the lineup next season," also relaying from GM Steve Yzerman that Detroit will seek more offense by looking at options in free agency. Zadina is just 23 years old, but he's produced only 28 goals and 40 assists through 190 career games; the Wings, their fan base, and fantasy managers alike expected much more from him after he was taken sixth overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Facing season-ending absence
Zadina (lower body) won't play against Pittsburgh on Tuesday and may be shut down for the rest of the season, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Zadina has been limited to a meager 30 games this season due to injuries. Even when healthy, the 23-year-old winger has struggled offensively with just three goals and four assists, his lowest total since 2018-19 when he played in just nine games. Selected by the Wings with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, Zadina has yet to live up to expectations with just 28 goals in 190 contests, well behind contemporaries Andrei Svechnikov (112) and Brady Tkachuk (124).

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Brushes twine in return
Zadina lit the lamp Thursda, en route to a 4-1 win over the Rangers.
Zadina was back at it after being scratched from Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Capitals; he's crafted a three-game point streak comprised of a goal and two assists, but the Wings' sixth-overall draft pick from 2018 is averaging just 12:51 of ice time which casts doubt that his latest offensive run is sustainable. Zadina has two goals and another pair of assists through 16 games this season.

This was Zadina's second assist in as many games, and his third point in six contests since he rejoined the Red Wings following a broken leg. The 23-year-old winger has just those three points through 15 outings overall, and he's added 18 shots on net, 14 hits and a minus-1 rating while primarily playing in a bottom-six role.
