  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Grabs assist in win

Brannstrom recorded an assist in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Oilers.

Brannstrom has helpers in back-to-back games but remains mired in a 21-game goal drought dating back to Feb. 13 versus the Blue Jackets. With only 18 shots over that stretch, Brannstrom is going to need to start shooting more if he is going to find the back of the net. Still, the blueliner has been providing some offensive upside of late with four helpers in his last seven outings.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Puts up assist Saturday

Brannstrom notched an assist, two hits and three blocked shots in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Oilers.

Brannstrom has collected three helpers over his last five games. The defenseman helped out on a Parker Kelly tally in the third period to break up Stuart Skinner's shutout bid. Brannstrom had a brief foray at forward, but the Senators have opted to move him back to defense, where he's often seen bottom-four minutes. He's at 10 points, 32 shots on net, 38 blocked shots, 22 PIM and a plus-7 rating through 30 appearances.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Offers assist in loss

Brannstrom put up an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Coyotes.

Brannstrom set up a Dominik Kubalik goal in the first period, which chased Arizona starter Connor Ingram from the game. The helper was Brannstrom's fourth over the last eight games, a marked improvement on his season pace of five points through 22 outings. The defenseman has added 24 shots on net, 30 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a plus-2 rating while occupying a regular role on the third pairing as the Senators have had to navigate a number of other injuries on the blue line.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Records two helpers against Rangers

Brannstrom notched two assists in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Rangers.

Brannstrom had just one multi-point game in 74 games last season, so fantasy players probably shouldn't count on him to keep piling up offense. In fact, the 24-year-old defenseman has never reached the 20-point threshold in his five-year NHL career and will be hard-pressed to do so in 2023-24.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: First goal key to win

Brannstrom scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the Wild.

With the Senators down 1-0 early in the third period, Minnesota cleared the puck into Ottawa's end for a line change. Goalie Anton Forsberg pounced on it and fired a pass to a wide-open Brannstrom at the opposite blue line, who had a clear path to Wild netminder Filip Gustavsson and blasted a slapshot past him. Brannstrom has never scored more than two goals in an NHL season, and this was his first point in 2023-24, so an offensive surge for the 24-year-old defenseman seems unlikely.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Returns Saturday

Brannstrom (concussion) will be back in the lineup Saturday versus Calgary, per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Brannstrom sat out five games after he was stretchered off the ice Oct. 26, courtesy of a Cal Clutterbuck hit. Brannstrom has yet to garner a point in seven games this season.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Still out of action

Brannstrom (concussion) won't play Thursday versus the Canucks.

Brannstrom will miss his fifth straight game, and he has yet to be cleared for contact. The defenseman may end up sitting out Saturday versus Calgary as well, as the Senators are off for four days after that contest, which could give him enough time to get back on track in practice.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Hasn't been cleared for contact

Brannstrom (concussion) skated in a non-contact jersey Tuesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Brannstrom has missed the last three games after suffering a concussion during a loss to the Islanders on Oct. 26. While Brannstrom returning to the ice in a limited fashion Tuesday is certainly a step in the right direction, he'll presumably need to log at least one full practice before being cleared for game action. He's gone scoreless through seven contests this campaign.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Diagnosed with concussion

Brannstrom sustained a concussion and will be returning to Ottawa on Friday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Brannstrom won't be available to face the Penguins on Saturday but it could certainly be longer as he recovers from his concussion. The fact that he was immediately able to travel home could be an indication it won't be a long-term absence. Still, any missing blueliner is a problem for the team right now with both Thomas Chabot (hand) and Artem Zub (upper body) also shelved.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Exits Thursday's game

Brannstrom was stretchered off the ice after a hit from Cal Clutterbuck in Thursday's game versus the Islanders, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

The hit occurred in the second period. Per the team, Brannstrom was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. At this time it's unclear if he'll be cleared to travel with the Senators on their trip to Pittsburgh for Saturday's matchup with the Penguins.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Re-ups with club

Brannstrom secured a one-year, $2 million contract with Ottawa on Saturday.

Brannstrom finally found himself as a full-time NHL player this season, logging 74 games for the Senators in which he garnered two goals, 16 assists and 74 shots despite averaging just 16:07 of ice time. If the Swedish blueliner can secure more opportunities with the man advantage, he could top the 20-point threshold for the first time in his four-year NHL career in 2023-24.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Registers assist in win

Brannstrom produced a power-play assist in Monday's 5-2 win over the Panthers.

Brannstrom helped Derick Brassard extend Ottawa's lead to 2-0 in the first period. The 23-year-old blueliner is up to two goals and 14 points on the season, matching his career high. Brannstrom has shown some offensive upside, but his production has been limited in a third-pairing role.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Records helper in commanding win

Brannstrom earned an assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

This was the first point for Brannstrom since Nov. 19. The third-pairing blueliner worked through a lower-body injury earlier in the season, and he has largely struggled to make an impact for a Senators team that has won just four of its past 10 games. The Swede has four assists standing as his point total through 43 contests, and while his career-high 65 blocked shots qualifies as a decent total, it's generally not enough to move the needle in fantasy hockey.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Playing Tuesday

Brannstrom will be in the lineup against the Jackets on Tuesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Brannstrom was activated off injured reserve Sunday but didn't get into the action versus the Sabres. Considering the blueliner has one point in his last 29 appearances, his return to the lineup shouldn't offer much in the way of fantasy value except perhaps in formats that value defensive stats like blocks and hits.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Back from IR

Brannstrom (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Sunday, per CapFriendly.

Brannstrom was activated but did not dress in Sunday's game against Buffalo. He could return as early as Tuesday's matchup with Columbus. The 23-year-old has just three assists in 32 games this season.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Surfaces on IR

Brannstrom (lower body) has been placed on injured reserve, per the NHL media site.

The Senators have yet to release an expected timetable for Brannstrom's return, but his placement on IR was likely made retroactive to Dec. 21, in which case he'd be eligible to return whenever healthy. The 23-year-old defender has only picked up three assists through 32 games this campaign, so fantasy managers shouldn't need to track his availability.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Sidelined with lower-body injury

Brannstrom won't play Tuesday against Boston due to a lower-body injury, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Brannstrom will miss a second straight contest with his lower-body injury. He's picked up just three helpers through 32 games this campaign, so fantasy managers shouldn't need to keep tabs on Brannstrom's status.

  • Senators' Erik Brannstrom: Suffers leg injury

Brannstrom will not play Thursday versus Washington due to a leg injury, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Brannstrom has had a tough offensive season, as he has only three assists in 32 games. He will be replaced in the lineup by Dillon Heatherington. Brannstrom should be considered day-to-day and could return after the Christmas break.
