He helped out on both of Artturi Lehkonen's tallies in his return. Makar logged a series-high 26:53 of ice time Friday, including 7:06 with the man advantage. It's likely Colorado will continue to lean heavily on the 24-year-old defenseman in Game 7 on Sunday.... See More ... See Less

Avalanche's Cale Makar: Eligible to play Friday
Makar has served his one-game ban and will be available for Game 6 against the Kraken on Friday. Makar has recorded one goal, two assists and 12 shots through four postseason appearances and will be needed for a must-win Game 6 matchup. The blueliner figures to immediately return to the Avs' top pairing in addition to linking up with the No. 1 power-play unit.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Receives one-game suspension
Makar was handed a one-game suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday for interference against Seattle's Jared McCann in Game 4 on Monday. Makar was assessed a two-minute penalty on the play at the 8:24 mark of the first period in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to Seattle. He won't be eligible to play in Game 5 versus the Kraken on Wednesday. Makar has one goal and two assists in four games this postseason. He could be replaced in the lineup by blueliners Kurtis MacDermid or Brad Hunt, while Devon Toews will probably fill in on the top power-play unit.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Facing potential suspension
Makar will have a hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Tuesday for interference on the Kraken's Jared McCann. Makar should be expected to miss at least Game 5 against Seattle, though it certainly could be longer. Through the opening four games, the 24-year-old blueliner has recorded one goal, two assists and 12 shots while averaging 25:14 of ice time. Assuming Makar misses out Wednesday, Devon Toews figures to see the biggest uptick of ice time, including stepping into the No. 1 power-play role.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: One of each in win
Makar scored a goal, dished a shorthanded assist, went plus-3, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Kraken in Game 3. Makar stretched the Avalanche's lead to 3-1 in the second period. He'd also previously set up J.T. Compher's shorthanded marker in the opening frame. After a quiet start to the playoffs, Makar's now at three points, eight shots on net, eight hits, seven blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through three contests. The 24-year-old defenseman will continue to lead the way on the Avalanche's blue line.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Provides assist
Makar logged an assist, four shots on goal, six hits, three blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Kraken in Game 2. Makar had a shot tipped in by Artturi Lehkonen for the Avalanche's first goal. Prior to Thursday, Makar had gone three games without a point, and he missed seven contests in that span with a lower-body injury. He's still eating big minutes in the playoffs, and Makar will likely dictate the tempo from the back end as the Avalanche look to pull ahead in the series with Game 3 on Saturday.... See More ... Avalanche's Cale Makar: Ready to play Tuesday
Makar (lower body) will be in the lineup against the Kraken for Game 1 on Tuesday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. Makar will return following a seven-game absence due to his lower-body issue. Prior to getting hurt, the blueliner notched five points in his previous five outings, including a pair of power-play helpers. With Makar back in the lineup, he should return to quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit and should offer elite fantasy value.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Should be back for playoffs
Makar (lower body) should be ready for the start of the playoffs, but coach Jared Bednar isn't sure if the 24-year-old defender will play in any of the Avalanche's final three regular-season contests, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. Although we likely won't see Makar again during the regular season, the outstanding defender should be ready to rock for Game 1 of the Avalanche's first-round playoff series. Makar's racked up 14 goals and 66 points through 60 contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Out indefinitely

Avalanche's Cale Makar: Remains out Thursday
Makar (lower body) isn't available for Thursday's game against San Jose, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette reports. Makar also missed Tuesday's contest because of the injury. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar offered no timetable for his return, and he noted that the 24-year-old's existing lower-body injury is a new issue, separate from the one that caused Makar to miss two games from March 20-22. The star defenseman has 17 goals and 66 points in 60 outings this season.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Has lower-body injury
Makar did not play Tuesday due to a lower-body injury, Meghan Angley of DNVR.com reports. This provides more information after an initial report was unclear as to why Makar would not be available. Colorado clinched a playoff berth with a 4-3 win over the Sharks on Tuesday, so they could be careful with the Makar as the team prepares for the postseason.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Not playing Tuesday
Makar (undisclosed) won't play Tuesday versus the Sharks, Avalanche play-by-play announcer Conor McGahey reports. For the season, the superstar defenseman is up to 66 points (30 on the power play), 172 shots on net, 77 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating through 58 outings.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Leads Avalanche with three points
Makar (lower body) scored the game-winning goal and provided two assists in the Avalanche's 3-1 victory over Arizona on Friday. Makar missed Colorado's previous two games due to the injury. He logged 25:14 of ice time in his return, which is actually a touch lighter of a workload than usual, given that the defenseman entered Friday's action averaging 26:36 this season. The 24-year-old's recorded at least a point in each of his last nine appearances, recording four markers and 15 assists in that span. Overall in 2022-23, Makar has provided 17 goals and 64 points in 56 contests.... See More ... See Less -

He will return to the first power play, where he has five tallies and 23 assists.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Won't play against Pens
Makar (lower body) has been ruled out for Wednesday's matchup with Pittsburgh but remains day-to-day, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette reports. Makar will miss his second straight contest due to his lower-body problem, just the latest in a string of injuries that have hampered the blueliner this season. Despite playing in just 55 games this year, the 24-year-old Calgary native has still racked up 61 points, which trails only last season's 86-point performance. With Makar out, Bowen Byram figures to take his spot on the No. 1 power-play unit.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Ruled out Monday
Makar suffered a lower-body injury against Detroit on Saturday and will be unavailable for Monday's matchup with Chicago, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. Makar has been absolutely tearing it up of late with 16 points in his last nine contests, including seven power-play assists. With Makar on the shelf, Bowen Byram figures to link up with the No. 1 power-play unit while Kurtis MacDermid will suit up for the first time since March 7 versus the Sharks. Makar's next chance to play is Wednesday versus the Penguins.... See More ... See Less -
Avalanche's Cale Makar: Plays four third-period shifts
Makar did not play over the final 11:43 of the third period in Saturday's 5-1 win over Detroit, Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now reports. Makar played just four shifts (2:38) in the third period. The Avalanche were well in control of the game, up 5-1, so this could have been coach Jared Bednar giving a break to Makar, who averages 26:36 TOI/game. After he appeared to be in pain following an on-ice sequence, Makar retreated to the bench and remained there. Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports Makar was in the post-game room like normal and was told the defenseman is fine.... See More ... See Less -
