Top Frank Vatrano News

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Back with team

Vatrano (personal) participated in the morning skate, according to Patrick Present of The Hockey News, and will be available to play Tuesday against San Jose.

Vatrano missed Monday's practice to attend the birth of his daughter. He will probably occupy a middle-six role and get time on the top power-play unit versus the Sharks. Vatrano has two assists, six shots on goal, five blocked shots and six hits in four appearances this campaign.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Absent from practice

Vatrano didn't practice ahead of Tuesday's clash with the Sharks while awaiting the birth of his child, Zach Cavanagh of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Vatrano hasn't found the back of the net in four games this season but did pick up helpers in each of his last two outings. If the 30-year-old winger isn't available against San Jose, the team may have to bring up a player from the minors unless Isac Lundestrom (upper body) is cleared to play.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Picks up helper in return

Vatrano logged an assist, two hits and two blocked shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Kings.

Vatrano missed Friday's game versus the Avalanche while welcoming his child into the world. The winger was back in his familiar third-line role Sunday and earned an assist for the second game in a row. He's added six shots on net, six hits and five blocked shots over four appearances this season. Vatrano should continue to be a source of non-scoring production while playing on a checking line, and he's also seeing ice time in all situations.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Removed from non-roster list

Vatrano (personal) was activated from the non-roster list Saturday.

Vatrano missed Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to Colorado to attend the birth of his child. He will likely occupy a middle-six role and see time on the second power-play combination versus the Kings on Sunday. Vatrano has one assist, five shots on goal, three blocked shots and four hits in three appearances this season. His return will probably bump Ross Johnston from the lineup.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Designated as non-roster player

Vatrano won't play Friday against Colorado to attend the birth of his child and was placed on the injured non-roster list.

Vatrano's designation allowed the team to bring Jansen Harkins up from the minors, while Ross Johnston will also move into the lineup, likely in Vatrano's third-line spot. With the Ducks heading back home to face the Kings on Sunday, it's possible Vatrano will rejoin the team in time for that matchup, though he could also wait to return until a matchup with San Jose on Tuesday.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Pockets helper Wednesday

Vatrano recorded an assist and two hits in Wednesday's 5-4 overtime win over Utah.

Vatrano helped out on a Troy Terry goal in the first period. The helper was Vatrano's first point to go with five shots on net, four hits, three blocked shots and two PIM through three contests. The 30-year-old was a huge part of the Ducks' offense last season with 37 goals and 60 points in 82 regular-season games, but that happened with him averaging 18:21 of ice time. He hasn't seen as much action early in 2024-25 as the Ducks look to have prospects fill larger roles.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Finds twine Friday

Vatrano scored a goal on seven shots in Friday's 3-2 preseason shootout win over the Sharks.

Vatrano has two goals over three preseason outings. The 30-year-old had a career year in 2023-24 with 37 goals, 60 points, 156 hits and 272 shots on net over 82 games. He also shot 13.6 percent, which isn't outrageous for him, but is still likely to lead to some regression. It won't help that the additions of Cutter Gauthier and Robby Fabbri are set to eat into some of Vatrano's minutes both on the power play and at even strength. Vatrano can still offer decent category coverage, but he'll be most helpful in formats that don't play with plus-minus rating.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Ends career year with hat trick

Vatrano recorded a hat trick in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Golden Knights.

Vatrano opened the scoring with a power-play tally in the second period. He then added an even-strength goal and a shorthanded empty-netter to finish the hat trick in the third. It's a fitting finish to the campaign for the 30-year-old, who broke out in a big way this season with 37 goals and 60 points over 82 contests. He added 272 shots on net, 156 hits, 78 blocked shots, 85 PIM and a minus-20 rating. Vatrano figures to be a veteran leader and mentor for the Ducks in 2024-25, the final year of his current three-year contract.

Vatrano has a helper in each of the last two games, but he ended March with seven points over 16 contests in the month. The 30-year-old forward has slowed down, likely in part due to the Ducks' semi-frequent shuffling of the forward lines. He's up to 53 points, 249 shots on net, 138 hits and a minus-24 rating through through 75 appearances with ample time in all situations.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Puts up power-play helper

Vatrano notched a power-play assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers.

Vatrano has just two points over his last 11 contests, and both of them have come on the power play. The 30-year-old forward has hit some incredible highs with his play this season, but he's slumping at the wrong time for fantasy managers. Overall, he's produced 30 goals, 22 assists, 19 power-play points, 247 shots on net, 138 hits, 79 PIM and 70 blocked shots over 74 outings.

Vatrano scored a goal on a team-high six shots in Thursday's 4-0 win over Chicago.

Vatrano capped the scoring midway through the third period, wiring a wrister past Arvid Soderblom on a power play. The goal is Vatrano's 30th this season, the first time he's reached that mark in his 10-year NHL career. The 30-year-old winger had gone nine games without a goal, tallying just a pair of assists in that span. Vatrano's up to a career-best 51 points (30 goals, 21 assists) through 70 games this season.

Vatrano notched an assist and two shots on goal in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Stars.

The helper was Vatrano's 50th point of the season, with this being the first time he's reached that milestone. The 29-year-old has three goals and two assists over his last five outings. For the season, he's added 193 shots on net, 121 hits, 69 PIM, 64 blocked shots and a minus-17 rating over 63 appearances. Vatrano is a virtual lock to stay in the top six, and he could push for the 60-point mark over the rest of the campaign.

  • Ducks' Frank Vatrano: Finds twine on power play

Vatrano scored a power-play goal on three shots and added two PIM in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Sharks.

Vatrano helped stem off a Sharks rally with a power-play marker late in the second period. The winger had gone two contests without a point entering Thursday, his longest drought since mid-January. Vatrano is up to 27 goals, 46 points, 182 shots on net, 116 hits, 62 blocked shots, 69 PIM and a minus-19 rating over 59 appearances. While his shooting percentage is still lofty at 14.8 percent, it's come down throughout the campaign with little impact on his role or production. Vatrano should continue to see top-six minutes and power-play time.
