  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Fifth straight 20-goal campaign

Marner scored twice Saturday in a 7-4 loss to Colorado.

Marner tied the game 1-1 at 3:04 of the first period with a wrist shot from the right circle that he ripped far side past Mackenzie Blackwood's blocker. Marner then one-timed a pass late in the frame from the right dot to push the Leafs out front 3-2. He's on a six-game, eight-point scoring streak that includes five goals and 14 shots. The 27-year-old now has 21 goals and 58 assists this season. Marner has cracked the 20-goal plateau for the fifth straight season and seventh time in nine campaigns. He's also on pace for 101 points, which would set a new career mark. Marner's previous best was set last season (99 points).

For the season, the Ontario native has 18 goals, 56 helpers, 133 shots on net and a plus-11 rating. Marner remains on pace for his first 100-point campaign, and he's setting himself up nicely for a big payday either to stay with Toronto or to help another team if he gets to free agency in the summer.

Marner scored two goals in a 5-4 overtime win over Boston on Tuesday.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Two big assists in Canada's win

Marner picked up two assists in Canada's 3-2 overtime win over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off Final on Thursday.

Both helpers were excellent passes. On the first, Marner carried the puck into the USA zone and threaded a pass between Adam Fox and Brock Nelson to Sam Bennett, who went high over Connor Hellebuyck's shoulder from below the left face-off circle. The second was a sweet feed from the left hash marks to a wide-open Connor McDavid on the game winner in overtime. Marner finished the tournament with one goal, two assists and three shots. He struggled to elevate his game at times during the tournament, but he came up big Thursday night. Playing best-on-best should be a confidence booster for the playmaker as he returns to the Leafs' playoff run.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Nets OT winner in Canada win

Marner scored the game-winning goal Wednesday in overtime in a 4-3 win for Team Canada over Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

More remarkably, the crowd in Montreal actually cheered wildly as Marner was named the game's second star. That's a rarity for a guy usually adorned in blue and white.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Playmaking maestro at it again

Marner delivered two assists in a 4-3 overtime win over New Jersey on Thursday.

He also delivered four hits. Marner's pass to spring William Nylander on a breakaway for the OT winner was classic Mitch -- he wired it from behind his own blue line and threaded it right on Willie's stick at the offensive blue line. Nylander did the rest. Marner has just one goal in his last 10 games, but his 12 assists have helped lead the way for the Leafs. Overall, he leads Toronto in scoring with 62 points in 46 games, and he's second in assists in the NHL (48), behind Nathan MacKinnon, who has 55. Marner is the sixth skater in Leafs' history to reach 700 points in blue and white and the fastest to reach the milestone (622 games). He passed Darryl Sittler, who reached 700 in 666 games.

  • Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner: Smothered by Canes checkers

Marner tallied an assist Thursday in a 6-3 loss to Carolina.

Unfortunately, both he and Auston Matthews were dominated by the Canes' checking line, and both men finished minus-6 on the night. Marner has three assists in his last two games. He's a proud guy who can shut down opponents, so he will lick his wounds for a minute and then recalibrate his approach for the Leafs' next game.
