Penguins' Brian Boyle: Has knee procedure Monday
Boyle underwent surgery on his left knee Monday and is facing a six-week recovery timeline. Boyle was labeled week-to-week by the team ahead of Game 7 versus the Rangers on Sunday, so his procedure shouldn't come as a surprise. The veteran center made 66 appearances for the Penguins during the regular season this year in which he registered 11 goals, 10 assists and 87 shots despite averaging just 10:47 of ice time. If Boyle wants to extend his NHL career, he should be able to secure a contract during the offseason, possibly with the Penguins.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Week-to-week
Boyle (lower body) is week-to-week and will not play in Game 7 against the Rangers on Sunday. Even if the Penguins are able to advance to Round 2, Boyle may not be able to suit up given his new return timeline. The veteran managed a pair of assists across 10:15 of average ice time in the first six games of the series before suffering the injury Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Suffers injury Friday
Boyle is being evaluated for a lower-body injury after leaving early during Friday's loss to the Rangers, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports. Boyle left after registering just 1:25 of ice time during the first period. The 37-year-old notched two assists while averaging 12:01 of ice time through the first five games of the series. An update on his status should be available before Game 7 on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Provides helper Saturday
Boyle logged an assist and two blocked shots in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rangers in Game 3. Boyle set up the second of Evan Rodrigues' pair of goals in the first period after forcing a turnover. This was Boyle's first point in three playoff contests this year, and he's added six blocked shots and four shots on net from a fourth-line role. The 37-year-old had 21 points in 66 regular-season outings, but he's more of a defensive presence than a scoring threat.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Two points in Sunday's win
Boyle scored a goal and an assist in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes. He opened the scoring in the first period, then helped set up Sidney Crosby for the game-winner in the third. Boyle's fourth-line role doesn't offer him much offensive upside, and on the season he has seven goals and 12 points through 46 games.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Goal and assist in win over Devils
Boyle scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Devils. Boyle and Mike Matheson assisted on each other's goals Sunday to provide the Penguins with some scoring depth. The 37-year-old Boyle isn't one to produce much offense at this point in his career -- this was his first multi-point effort of the season. The center has six goals, two assists, 52 shots on net, 46 hits and an even plus-minus rating in 36 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Generates helper Monday
Boyle logged an assist, two shots on goal, two hits and two PIM in Monday's 5-3 win over the Golden Knights. Boyle set up Teddy Blueger's second-period tally that got the Penguins within a goal. This was Boyle's first assist of the season to go with four goals in 26 appearances. The 37-year-old has added 34 shots on net and 30 hits while mainly playing in a fourth-line role, so he's not likely to add enough to help in fantasy.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Activated off non-roster list
Boyle (personal) was activated off the non-roster list Tuesday. Boyle will presumably be available for Wednesday's matchup with St. Louis after missing three games due to personal reasons. The 37-year-old vet has picked up three goals through 19 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Remains sidelined
Boyle (lower body) won't play Sunday versus San Jose, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports. Boyle will miss a third straight contest Sunday and remains without a definite timetable for his return. Another update on the 37-year-old vet should surface once he's cleared to rejoin the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Misses practice
Boyle (lower body) missed Saturday's practice due to personal reasons. Boyle has missed the Penguins' last two games due to a lower-body injury, and his status for Sunday's matinee matchup with the Sharks remains a mystery. The veteran forward has picked up three goals through 19 contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Out again Sunday
Boyle (lower body) will not play against the Devils on Sunday, Dave Molinari of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. The 37-year-old sat out Friday against Buffalo, so this will be his second absence due to this injury. Boyle's next chance to return will be Tuesday at home against New Jersey.... See More ... Penguins' Brian Boyle: Won't play Friday
Boyle (lower body) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Buffalo. Boyle missed Thursday's practice with the lower-body injury and apparently isn't ready to take the ice Friday. The veteran forward should be considered day-to-day leading up to Sunday's game in New Jersey.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Misses Thursday's practice
Boyle (lower body) did not practice Thursday, Mike DeFabo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Boyle has been in Pittsburgh's lineup for the last three games, tallying one goal and six shots while averaging 10:46 of ice time. If he's unavailable Friday against Buffalo, Sam Lafferty could draw back into the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Sitting as healthy scratch
Boyle is no longer dealing with an upper-body injury and instead has been sitting as a healthy scratch, Dave Molinari of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Coach Mike Sullivan is evidently content with his current lineup, so it may take a poor game from one of Pittsburgh's current top-four centers for Boyle to get back in the mix. Boyle's picked up two goals through 16 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Will miss Wednesday's tilt
Boyle (upper body) will be on the shelf versus Edmonton on Wednesday. Boyle will miss his second straight contest due to his upper-body issue. Since the return of Sidney Crosby, the 36-year-old Boyle has struggled to find a place in the lineup and could find himself further down the organizational depth chart once Evgeni Malkin (knee) returns to action.... Penguins' Brian Boyle: Dealing with upper-body issue
Boyle missed Monday's loss to Calgary due to an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day. Boyle was a late scratch and was replaced in the lineup by Sam Lafferty. The former has two goals through 16 games this season and his next chance to play will be Wednesday against Edmonton.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Gets in on offensive outburst
Boyle scored a goal on two shots and logged a 5-minute fighting major Saturday in a 7-1 win over Toronto. Boyle made it a 6-1 game just 20 seconds into the third period when he hammered a one-timer from the left faceoff circle. It was the second goal of the year for Boyle, who also tangled with Wayne Simmonds earlier in the frame. The 36-year-old Boyle logged 10:52 in his bottom-six role.... See More ... See Less -
Penguins' Brian Boyle: Scores in debut with new squad
Boyle scored a goal on two shots in a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He also had two shots and two blocks. Making his Pittsburgh debut, the 36-year-old made the most of his limited ice time (9:21). He gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead early in the second period after being sent in alone by Sam Lafferty, beating Andrei Vasilevskiy five-hole for his first goal since 2019-20 while with Florida.... Penguins' Brian Boyle: Inks one-year deal
Boyle signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Boyle impressed the team brass during training camp while on a PTO and has now linked up with the club on a permanent basis. The 36-year-old center figures to slot into a fourth-line role, though he could certainly challenge for a bigger role while Sidney Crosby (wrist) and Evgeni Malkin (knee) are sidelined....
