  • Vikings' Colin Thompson: Headed to Minnesota

Thompson signed a contract with the Vikings on Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. Thomspon spent the last three seasons with the Panthers, playing 26 games between 2020 and 2021. He remained in Carolina during the 2022 campaign, but he was never elevated from the practice squad. • Colin Thompson: Time ends in Carolina

Thompson's (calf) contract with the Panthers' practice squad expired Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Thompson spent the last three years with Carolina, primarily playing as a core special-teamer in 26 regular-season games during this span. The 29-year-old tight end was then waived with a calf injury at the end of this preseason before re-joining via the practice squad Aug. 31. Thompson then did not appear in a game during the 2022 campaign, and he'll now focus on finding a new team ahead of the 2023 season.

  • Colin Thompson: Joins Panthers' practice squad

Thompson (calf) was added to Carolina's practice squad Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Thomas struggled to make a case for a roster spot while battling a calf injury for much of August. Once he heals up, it's possible the Temple product could push for a spot on the team later in the season given Carolina's lack of established talent at tight end.

  • Panthers' Colin Thompson: Picks up injury

Thompson is dealing with a calf injury, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. The 28-year-old finished the 2021 campaign on Carolina's practice squad after bringing in just one of his three targets for seven yards over 26 games during the past two seasons. The Panthers also signed tight end Nate Becker to a one-year deal Thursday, so any missed time this preseason could substantially affect Thompson's chances to make the team's final roster headed into the regular season.

Thompson will sign with the Bears' practice squad Tuesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. An undrafted rookie tight end out of Temple, Thompson took part in training camp with the Giants, but was cut loose after requiring an appendectomy. Now apparently back to full strength, Thompson could earn a promotion to the Bears' active roster if he impresses in practices.
