Commanders' Jonathan Allen: Records 5.5 sacks
Allen (knee) finished 2023 with 53 tackles (30 solo), 5.5 sacks and one pass defense in 16 games.
The only game he missed was Week 18, and he recorded the second-most QB hits (19) of his career despite having four other seasons with more sacks. On the other hand, PFF graded Allen at No. 124 out of 137 qualified interior defensive linemen for run defense, suggesting that what had once been one of his strengths as a DE on early downs has become a weakness now that he lines up at defensive tackle for about three-fourths of his snaps. It is possible a new coaching staff in Washington will want Allen on the edge more, though the 300-pounder has always manned the interior at least half the time since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2017. He has two years remaining on a four-year, $72 million extension, with non-guaranteed base salaries of $14 million (2024) and $15.5 million (2025) perhaps creating some question about his future under new management in Washington.

Commanders' Jonathan Allen: Missing Week 18
Allen (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
The 28-year-old defensive tackle recorded back-to-back DNPs to open the Commanders' week of practice, and he's now in line to miss his first game of the season in Week 18. With Allen missing Sunday's affair, expect Phidarian Mathis to shoulder more work on Washington's defensive line.

Commanders' Jonathan Allen: Tending to knee injury
Allen (knee) did not participate at practice Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
It's not clear when Allen picked up the knee issue or how serious it might be, but it puts his availability for Week 18 in jeopardy in any case. He'll probably have to return to practice Thursday or Friday to give himself a chance to play Sunday.

Commanders' Jonathan Allen: Productive in loss
Allen logged five total tackles (three solo) in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the 49ers.
The Pro Bowl defensive tackle put up the third-most tackles he's recorded in a game this season Sunday, bringing his total up to 53 stops on the year. Allen has had another productive year for the Commanders' defense, appearing in all 16 of the team's games thus far and ranking second in both tackles for loss (10) and sacks (5.5). The 28-year-old will look to end the season on a positive note in Week 18's game against the Cowboys.

Commanders' Jonathan Allen: Registers in sack column again
Allen recorded four tackles (three solo) including 1.5 sacks in Sunday's 31-19 loss versus the Giants.
Allen got into the sack column for the second straight game and for the fifth time this season in Week 11. He's undoubtedly one of the best defensive tackles in football, but the ability of offences to double-team him keeps him from being an elite IDP option.
