McCoy (knee) announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday. McCoy has decided to hang up his cleats after an 11-year career that included stints with the Buccaneers, Panthers and the Raiders. The defensive lineman recorded 334 tackles, including 59.5 sacks, while forcing six fumbles, recovering four fumbles and deflecting 24 passes over 140 games. The six-time Pro Bowler selection and one-time All-Pro selection was one of the most dominant at his position during his career.... See More ... See Less

Raiders' Gerald McCoy: Lands suspension
McCoy (knee) has been dealt a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy. McCoy will serve the suspension immediately while he's on the team's injured reserve list. McCoy is already out for the remainder of the season, so this suspension won't have much of an effect on the Raiders' defensive line depth.... See More ... See Less -
Raiders' Gerald McCoy: Doesn't return to Monday's contest
The Raiders ruled McCoy (knee) out for the remainder of Monday's game against the Ravens. McCoy had to be carted off the field, which suggests the knee injury is probably pretty serious. The six-time Pro Bowler was looking to get back on track after he missed the entire 2020 campaign with a ruptured quadriceps.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Practicing without limitations
McCoy (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. McCoy didn't practice Wednesday, but he's now on track to draw his usual start against the Saints on Sunday. The veteran defensive end hasn't yet missed a game this season despite battling multiple lingering injuries.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Practices in full Friday
McCoy (ankle) was a full participant in Friday's practice. McCoy appears set for his usual starting workload during Sunday's divisional tilt in Atlanta. The veteran defensive end has regularly played through lingering injuries this season.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Upgrades to limited practice
McCoy (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports. McCoy was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, so Thursday's limited session is a step in the right direction. Barring any setbacks, the veteran defensive end appears to be trending toward availability for Sunday's divisional tilt against the Falcons.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Suffers injury Sunday
McCoy (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Redskins, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports. McCoy was on the wrong end of a cut block by offensive lineman Donald Penn, and was seen receiving extra treatment from the medical staff on the sideline. With the Panthers already thin on their offensive line due to injuries, the only healthy depth defensive line players are Efe Obada and Stacy McGee.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Sits out practice Wednesday
McCoy (knee/quadriceps) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. McCoy didn't practice last Wednesday but was able to shake the injury and record a season-high 80-percent snap share in this past Sunday's loss to the Saints. The veteran defensive end may follow a similar path this week, although the addition of his quad injury is concerning. Either Wes Horton or Efe Obada would assume a starting role if McCoy can't go.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Limited in practice Thursday
McCoy (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. McCoy did not practice Wednesday due to a knee injury he's been nursing since late September. There's not yet any reason to be concerned about McCoy's availability for Week 12, given that he hasn't yet missed any time due to the issue. The veteran defensive tackle has a tough matchup against the Saints on deck Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Not practicing Wednesday
McCoy (knee) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. McCoy was a DNP for Week 11's Wednesday practice as well, but he was full speed Thursday and logged a 71-percent snap share in the game. Thus, there's no real scare about his status for Sunday's matchup against the Saints. McCoy has been solid this season with 27 tackles (12 solo) and four sacks.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Knee injury resurfaces
McCoy (knee) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. McCoy dealt with a knee issue in October but didn't have to miss any time. It's unknown whether this problem is related. The 31-year-old's practice status should be monitored leading up to Sunday's game against the Falcons, as he's a valuable run-stopper with pass-rushing upside (three sacks).... See More ... Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Limited in practice
McCoy (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. McCoy has customarily received veteran rest days this season due to a lingering knee injury, so it's possible that his reps are being managed as a precaution. The veteran wasn't able to shake the issue during Carolina's bye, but it doesn't currently appear as though he's in danger of missing Sunday's contest against the 49ers. If McCoy is indeed able to go, he'll work to make an impact against San Francisco's prominent rushing attack.... See More ... See Less -
Panthers' Gerald McCoy: Likely to play Week 5
McCoy (knee) is expected to play in Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. McCoy was listed with a knee injury last week before ultimately playing against the Texans, and he logged a full practice Wednesday before being held out Thursday and Friday this week. He's likely to play and see his typical workload for Carolina against Jacksonville.... See More ... See Less -
Gerald McCoy: Visiting Baltimore next
McCoy left Cleveland without a contract and will visit the Ravens on Tuesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Cleveland has a talented roster and far more cap space, while Baltimore has the better defense and a much stronger track record of organizational success. The Panthers and Bengals, among other teams, are also believed to have interest in the 31-year-old defensive tackle. Tampa Bay released McCoy to free up $13 million in cap space, but he's still one of the better interior pass rushers in the league, coming off a 2018 campaign with six sacks and 21 quarterback hits (tied for 15th among all players) in 14 games.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Absent for start of OTAs
McCoy isn't present Tuesday for the start of OTAs, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. McCoy has stayed away from the Buccaneers throughout the voluntary offseason program while his future remains in limbo. The team is switching to a 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and coach Bruce Arians has openly acknowledged the possibility of McCoy being traded or released. It seems a trade would be the best solution for both parties, but McCoy's $13 million base salary could make things tricky. Badly in need of cap space, the Bucs can cut McCoy without any dead-money charge if they're ultimately unable to find a trade.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Starts week with limited practice
McCoy (ankle/shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports. McCoy logged a robust complement of 55 snaps in the Week 14 loss to the Saints, when he was credited with a sole assisted tackle. The multi-time Pro Bowler has seen his production wane during the stretch run, as he's notched just one tackle apiece for three straight games overall. McCoy's limited participation is almost assuredly a form of maintenance for the nine-year veteran, as there's no indication at this point that his Week 15 status is in any jeopardy.... See More ... Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Records sack in win
McCoy had two solo tackles and a sack in Sunday's 27-9 win over San Francisco. McCoy missed two games with a calf injury but returned Week 9, and has added to his sack total in each of the last four games. The 30-year-old has 19 tackles (11 solo) and six sacks, making him an unreliable option for IDP purposes.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Logs sack Sunday
McCoy recorded one sack across 43 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Redskins. Immediately after rookie Vita Vea reached Alex Smith for his first career sack, McCoy reached Smith for his third sack of the season. The run-stuffer now has 13 tackles (five solo) on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Logs half-sack in return to action
McCoy tallied two solo tackles, including a half-sack, in the Buccaneers' 42-28 loss to the Panthers on Sunday. McCoy was returning from a two-game absence due to a calf injury. The multi-time Pro Bowler only has two sacks through six games thus far this season, putting him on pace for his lowest total since the 2012 season. However, McCoy has proven capable of multi-game, late-season sack surges in recent seasons, so he retains robust IDP value now that he's apparently back at full health.... See More ... See Less -
Buccaneers' Gerald McCoy: Ready for action Sunday
McCoy (calf) will play Sunday's game versus the Panthers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. McCoy will return from a two-game hiatus to face off with a division rival. He'll record starter snaps, but the veteran defensive tackle had just eight tackles (three solo) and 1.5 sacks in the first five games, making him an unattractive IDP option.... See More ... See Less
