Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Shines in second big-league start
Munoz (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.
Munoz was recalled from the minors Wednesday to make the start in place of Jesus Luzardo, who is on the IL with an elbow injury. The right-handed rookie was solid in his MLB debut April 20, allowing two runs with seven punchouts over five frames, and he was even better Wednesday, holding the Rockies scoreless until the sixth inning and picking up both his first career victory and first career quality start. Munoz hasn't fared well in Triple-A this season -- he has an ugly 8.62 ERA and 9:14 K:BB over 15.2 frames -- so his success with the Marlins so far is somewhat surprising. That said, he's certainly pitched well enough to earn another start, though his opportunity to do so may depend on when Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is ready to return to the rotation and/or on whether the Marlins prefer to opt for a bullpen game at some point with the team's next off day not slated until May 9.

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Recalled ahead of start
The Marlins recalled Munoz from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Munoz will start Wednesday's game versus the Rockies in place of the injured Jesus Luzardo (elbow). The right-hander pitched well in a spot start last month in his major-league debut, allowing two runs with seven strikeouts over five innings. Munoz has had a disastrous season at Jacksonville, however, holding an 8.62 ERA and 9:14 K:BB in 15.2 frames. He's not a recommended streaming option even in a favorable matchup.

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Promotion imminent

The Marlins optioned Munoz to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
As expected, Munoz's stay with the big club lasted just one day, as Miami designated him as its 27th man for its doubleheader with the Cubs on Saturday. Munoz started the second game of the twin bill in what was his MLB debut, covering five innings and striking out seven while allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk en route to taking a no-decision in the Marlins' 5-3 loss. He'll step back into the Jacksonville rotation and should remain one of the top options for a promotion to the big club if the Marlins should require a spot starter at any point.

Marlins' Roddery Munoz: Pitches well in MLB debut
Munoz didn't factor in the decision during Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs. He struck out seven and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over five innings.
The 24-year-old surrendered a pair of solo homers but otherwise kept Chicago off the board in his MLB debut. Munoz exited in line for the victory, but the bullpen couldn't maintain a 3-2 advantage. The right-hander issued just one walk, which is a stark contrast to the 7:12 K:BB he posted across his three outings for Triple-A Jacksonville. Munoz was recalled as the 27th man for the doubleheader and should return to Jacksonville, but he likely pitched well enough to put him on the shortlist of potential call-ups when Miami needs rotation help later in the season.

Miami acquired Munoz from the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The 23-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment by the Pirates last week to free up a 40-man roster spot for Rowdy Tellez. Munoz struggled to a 5.86 ERA and 68:46 K:BB over 66 innings at the Triple-A level in 2023, but he's still young and could eventually turn into a big-league contributor for the Marlins.

The Pirates claimed Munoz off waivers from Washington on Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Munoz posted a 5.86 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 66 innings in Triple-A last season. The 23-year-old righty has yet to appear in a major-league game, but a spot on Pittsburgh's 40-man roster will give Munoz the chance to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster -- likely as a multi-inning reliever.

Nationals' Roddery Munoz: Joins Washington
Washington claimed Munoz off waivers from Atlanta on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.
Before designating Munoz for assignment last week, Atlanta appeared to have abandoned the idea of developing the right-hander as a starter, as he was deployed in relief in all but four of his 22 appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett, Double-A Mississippi and the rookie-level Florida Complex League this season while pitching to a 3.89 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 40:27 K:BB across 39.1 innings. The 23-year-old boasts a mid-90s fastball and a plus slider, and that two-pitch mix could be enough for him to emerge as a useful relief prospect down the road. Though he'll stay at the Triple-A level with his new organization, Munoz should at least have an easier pathway to reaching the big leagues with Washington.

After putting up a 4.28 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through 27.1 frames to begin the season in Triple-A Gwinnett, Munoz will be cast off Atlanta's 40-man roster. The move makes room for Lucas Luetge, who was selected to Atlanta's active roster from Gwinnett on Thursday. It's possible Munoz is claimed by another team looking for bullpen help, but he now appears in line to finish 2023 in the minors.

Munoz will be added to the 26-man active roster shortly before Tuesday's game against the Mets as a replacement for right-hander Michael Soroka, who was optioned to Gwinnett on Monday.
