Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Recalled from Triple-A
The Tigers recalled Nevin from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Nevin is slashing .326/.400/.543 with 58 RBI across 385 plate appearances in Triple-A this season, but his success has yet to translate into the majors. He'll come up from the minors to replace Riley Greene (elbow), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Optioned to Toledo
Detroit optioned Nevin to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Nevin, 26, has posted an ugly .122/.214/.184 batting line in 22 games this season at the major-league level. Akil Baddoo (quad) is expected to return from the injured list Friday to fill the vacant 26-man roster spot.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Recalled from Triple-A
The Tigers recalled Nevin from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Nevin was optioned to Triple-A on June 9 and has slashed .220/.306/.341 across 49 plate appearances since then. He hasn't enjoyed much success across his last two MLB stints, so he'll almost certainly serve as a bench piece while in Detroit. Nevin will take the place of Nick Maton, who was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Sent to Toledo
The Tigers optioned Nevin to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The move comes as a result of Kerry Carpenter (shoulder) returning from the 10-day injured list. Nevin was recalled from Triple-A on May 30 and went just 3-for-17 (.176) at the plate after being promoted. The 26-year-old infielder holds a .331/.387/.477 slash line in the minors this season and could return to Detroit later this summer.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Summoned to majors
Nevin was recalled from Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Nevin has managed just two hits in 22 at-bats at the big-league level this season. He could play a bit at third base and/or the corner outfield spots against lefties.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Moves to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Nevin to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.
Zach Short will remain on the active roster after being called up from Toledo to serve as the 27th man for Detroit's doubleheader against the Orioles on Saturday. In 27 plate appearances with the big club this season, Nevin slashed .091/.222/.227.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Back on bench versus righty
Nevin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.
Nevin had started in three of the Tigers' past four games -- all against right-handed pitchers -- but he'll head back to the bench for Monday's series opener. With Javier Baez moving past a minor finger injury and Zach McKinstry swinging a hot bat of late to at least temporarily earn himself more reps against right-handers, Nevin may have to settle for a short-side platoon role in the Detroit infield.... Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Late addition to lineup
Nevin is starting at third base and batting seventh Sunday against the Orioles.
The 25-year-old was originally absent from Sunday's lineup, but he was added to the starting nine after Javier Baez (finger) was scratched. Nevin has yet to find much success in his first five big-league games of the season, going 1-for-13 with an RBI and two walks.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Sitting Sunday
Nevin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Zach McKinstry, who will be rewarded with a start at third base after slugging a solo home run in Saturday's 5-1 loss. Though a regular spot in the starting nine is there for the taking for Nevin while a punchless Tigers offense has now failed to score more than four runs in five straight games, the 25-year-old remains part of the team's wholesale issues at the plate. Through five games with the big club, Nevin is hitting .077 with five strikeouts in 17 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Heads to bench Friday
Nevin will sit Friday versus the Orioles, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Nevin will get a breather after he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Wednesday against the Guardians, dropping to 1-for-10 from the plate this season. Nick Maton will slide over to third base while Jonathan Schoop enters the lineup at second base and bats eighth in the series opener in Baltimore against righty Tyler Wells.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Getting another start Wednesday
Nevin will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Nevin will start for the fourth time in six games and may have at least temporarily inched ahead of the likes of Zach McKinstry and Jonathan Schoop as manager A.J. Hinch's preferred option for the remaining opening in Detroit's everyday lineup. Since being called up from Triple-A Toledo, Nevin is getting on base at a .400 clip in 10 plate appearances, but he'll need to continue to excel at the dish over a larger sample of playing time before he takes firmer hold of a regular spot.... Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Batting second again
Nevin is starting at third base and batting second for the Tigers in Friday's game versus the Giants.
Nevin was on the bench Wednesday for the first game after his recall but has started each of the last two contests for the Tigers, both times in the two-hole. One was against a righty and this one comes versus lefty Sean Manaea. With the Tigers' offense scuffling, Nevin could get a long look. His fantasy upside is pretty limited, though.... See More ... Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Called up from Triple-A
Detroit recalled Nevin from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Before suffering an oblique injury in early March and beginning the season on the injured list, Nevin appeared to have a good chance at making the Tigers' Opening Day roster. He'll now get the opportunity to join the big club, as he was called up after starting pitcher Matt Manning (foot) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. A career .205/.312/.292 hitter in the big leagues, Nevin could get a look in an everyday role at third base if Detroit shifts Nick Maton to second base, a position where the team has struggled to get production thus far in 2023.... Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Activated and optioned
Nevin was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday and optioned to Triple-A Toledo, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Nevin went 11-for-18 on his rehab assignment, showing no ill effects of the oblique injury which landed him on the injured list to begin the season. He should get a shot with the big club eventually, but for now he'll get playing time with Toledo.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Starting rehab assignment
Nevin (oblique) is beginning a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Nevin is eligible for activation April 8 and would seem to have a good shot to be ready at that time. He could fill the short side of a platoon at third base for the Tigers against lefties.... See More ... See Less

Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Rehab assignment forthcoming
Nevin (oblique) is on track to begin a rehab assignment at a minor-league affiliate this weekend, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The Tigers will formally place Nevin (oblique) on the 10-day injured list at some point prior to Thursday's season opener at Tampa Bay, but the fact that he'll be taking part in games this weekend suggests he'll likely be in line for a minimum-length stay on the shelf. Once he's activated, the righty-hitting Nevin could occupy the smaller side of a platoon at third base with the lefty-hitting Nick Maton.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: Will begin year on injured list
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch confirmed Sunday that Nevin (oblique) will begin the season on the injured list, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. "He will open up on a rehab assignment if all goes well this week," Hinch said.
Nevin has been dealing with an oblique injury through much of camp. The 26-year-old shouldn't need a long stay on the injured list before returning to the Detroit lineup, and he is expected to serve as a bench option who can fill in at the corner infield positions.... See More ... See Less
Tigers' Tyler Nevin: To return to games this weekend
Nevin (oblique) is expected to return to game action this weekend, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
It's not clear whether that will be a minor-league game or Grapefruit League contest, but either way Nevin has pretty much put his oblique injury behind him. He would seem to have a shot to be ready for Opening Day, but it will be close.... See More ... See Less
