Marte (groin) is scheduled to play a pair of rehab games Saturday and Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. If all goes well in those two games, Marte should be cleared to return to the Mets' active roster for their final homestand, which begins Tuesday against the visiting Marlins. Out since early August due to a right groin strain, the veteran outfielder is currently getting simulated reps at the team's spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida.... See More ... Mets' Starling Marte: Traveling with team
Marte (groin) will accompany the Mets on their road trip to Miami this week, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. While there's still no guarantee the outfielder will play again in 2023, the Mets remain optimistic Marte will be cleared before the end of September. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since early August due to a groin strain that could be connected to the core muscle surgery he underwent in November 2022, and his career-worst .625 OPS through 86 games this season also suggests he hasn't been fully healthy all year. With two years and over $40 million left on his contract, the Mets have to be hoping he's able to rebound in 2024.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Does full workout Wednesday
Marte (groin) went through a full pregame workout Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte is now making steady progress in his recovery from the right groin strain that sent him to the injured list back in early August and told reporters Wednesday that he is aiming to return to the Mets' active roster for the final week of the 2023 regular season. When healthy this year, the veteran outfielder has slashed .248/.301/.324 with five home runs and 24 stolen bases across 86 games.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Responds well to physical therapy
Marte (groin) said Sunday that he had a productive week of physical therapy in Philadelphia and remains optimistic that he'll return from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The non-contending Mets likely won't be eager to bring Marte back from the IL unless he's 100 percent healthy, but he'll at least be given the chance to play again in 2023 if he remains free of setbacks as he navigates the rehab process for his right groin strain. However, if Marte fails to progress in his recovery as anticipated, he'll be at risk of undergoing surgery for the second offseason in a row. Marte previously had surgery last November to address injuries to both of his groins.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Getting physical therapy for injury
Mets manager Buck Showalter said Marte (groin) will head to Philadelphia this week to take part in physical therapy, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 7 with what the Mets classified as a right groin strain, but the extent of the injury still remains somewhat hazy. Showalter didn't offer much clarity on that front Monday, nor was the skipper willing to provide any real timeline for Marte to return from the 10-day injured list. Given that Marte underwent surgery last November to repair both of his groin tendons along with the fact that the Mets are out of playoff contention, it wouldn't be surprising if the 34-year-old remained sidelined for the rest of the season.... Mets' Starling Marte: Not close to returning
Marte (groin) indicated Friday that he's not close to a return and is unsure he'll make it back before the end of the season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte landed back on the IL in early August and had hoped to return to the Mets relatively quickly. However, he received another pain-killing injection in the right side of his groin earlier this week and was more guarded Friday when asked when he might make it back. The outfielder also didn't rule out additional surgery on his groin this offseason after having two procedures last winter, saying "that's a conversation that's going to have to be had with the trainers." Marte has been limited to just 86 games this season, producing a lowly .625 OPS.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: May not be pushed for '23 return
The Mets believe Marte's current groin injury could be related to his offseason core muscle surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The veteran outfielder underwent surgery last November to repair separated groin tendons, and while he returned in time for spring training, Marte simply hasn't looked 100 percent all season. While he does have 24 steals in 28 attempts, his .625 OPS is the lowest mark of his career by a significant margin. If lingering issues with his groin are the cause of his 2023 struggles, the Mets would at least have reason to believe he can return to form next season after resting and rehabbing over the winter. The 34-year-old has no timeline for his return, and with New York out of the playoff picture, the team has little incentive to push him back into the lineup down the stretch. Marte has two years and $41.5 million left on his contract after the current campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: May require rehab assignment
Marte (groin) likely won't be activated off the injured list when eligible Wednesday and could embark on a rehab assignment, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte landed on the injured list Monday and received an injection Tuesday in order to help speed up his recovery process. However, it seems that Marte's return date will still be pushed back, especially if he does end up playing a few games in the minors. There is still a chance Marte returns before the end of August, but he likely won't be urgently rushed back considering the Mets' current position in the postseason race.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Receives injection Tuesday
Marte received an injection in his right groin Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Marte was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday with a right groin strain, and his injection should allow him to resume "light activity" within the next few days. Because the Mets currently aren't in a position to contend for a playoff spot, there likely won't be any rush to get Marte back in the lineup. However, he still figures to return before the end of August.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Moves to IL with groin strain
The Mets placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right groin strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte returned from the IL on Friday after missing about two weeks while recovering from migraine headaches, but after going 0-for-8 in the first two games of the weekend series with the Orioles before sitting out Sunday's loss, the veteran outfielder now finds himself back on the shelf. The Mets haven't provided a timeline for Marte's return, but given the team's status as a non-contender along with the fact that the 34-year-old underwent offseason surgery to repair separated tendons in both of his groins, he looks like a strong bet to miss more than the minimum 10 days. Marte has provided value on the bases (24 steals in 28 attempts), but he's otherwise endured a rough second season in New York; he's slugged just five home runs and is batting a career-low .248.... Mets' Starling Marte: Out of Sunday's lineup
Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Baltimore. Marte started the past two games after missing a couple weeks with migraines, and he'll head to the bench for Sunday's series finale. DJ Stewart will start in right field and bat cleanup.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Activated from IL
Marte (migraines) was activated from the injured list Friday and will start in right field against the Orioles. Marte has been on the injured list since July 20 due to migraines, but he has not had an issue since being prescribed medication. The veteran outfielder's production has taken a considerable step back this season, and he's slashed .267/.333/.367 through 33 plate appearances in July.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Expected back Friday
Marte (migraines) is expected to be activated from the injured list Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte has been out since mid-July due to a series of migraine headaches, but he's been prescribed medication and is doing all baseball activities without issue. The veteran outfielder carries a weak .254/.308/.332 batting line in 333 plate appearances this season, but he can look to finish strong in the second year of a four-year, $78 million pact with the Mets.... Mets' Starling Marte: Could be activated Wednesday
Mets manager Buck Showalter said Marte (migraines) could be activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte participated in a full round of pregame batting practice Tuesday in Kansas City and is finally symptom-free following a string of migraine headaches. He's been on the shelf since mid-July and will be returning to a Mets club that got picked apart at the trade deadline.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Still dealing with migraines
Mets manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Marte is still dealing with migraine headaches, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. They're at a "lesser scale" to the migraines that originally sent Marte to the injured list last week, per Showalter, but he may seek out a second opinion in the near future. The veteran outfielder is also anticipating the birth of a child in the coming days, so there's not much clarity as to when he might return to the Mets' active roster.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Won't be activated Thursday
Mets manager Buck Showalter announced that Marte (migraines) will not be activated from the injured list when first eligible Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte has been doing pregame drills without issue over the last few days after landing on the IL last week due to recurring migraine headaches, but he's expecting a child soon and will miss at least a portion of the Mets' upcoming four-game series against the Nationals, which begins Thursday night in Queens. Mark Canha and Jeff McNeil continue to share starts in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Hits, runs bases
Marte (migraines) hit on the field and ran the bases Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Marte seems to be symptom-free after a string of migraine headaches sent him to the injured list last week. He's eligible to be activated as early as this Thursday. Mark Canha and Jeff McNeil have been sharing starts in right field for the Mets in Marte's absence.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: May not return until August
While the Mets continue to believe Marte (migraines) will need only a minimum 10-day stay on the injured list, he could go on the paternity list at the end of July, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The veteran outfielder is currently eligible to be activated from the IL on July 27, but he might not return to the lineup for a few days after his activation. Marte is one of many Mets who have failed to meet expectations this season, slashing .254/.308/.332 through 84 games with 24 steals but only five homers, 28 RBI and 38 runs.... See More ... Mets' Starling Marte: Day-to-day with migraines
Marte (migraines) took flyballs in the outfield Thursday morning and said he could "maybe" return to the lineup Friday in Boston, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marte said he was feeling better when speaking with reporters after being held out of the lineup for a third consecutive day due to the migraines. It's a good sign that he was able to take flyballs, and it sounds like he is day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Starling Marte: Out again with migraine
Marte (migraine) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox. Marte has been bothered by a succession of migraine headaches and will now miss a third straight game. He was scheduled to see a specialist about the issue Wednesday. Mark Canha will play right field and bat eighth for the Mets in Thursday's series finale versus Chicago.... See More ... See Less
