  • Jake Bauers 1B | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: On bench against lefty

Bauers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Southpaw Martin Perez is on the bump for Pittsburgh, so the lefty-hitting Bauers will make his way to the bench for the series finale. Owen Miller will fill in at first base, which should be Bauers' primary home for the foreseeable future following Rhys Hoskins' (hamstring) move to the injured list Tuesday.

  • Connor Joe 1B | PIT

Pirates' Connor Joe: Smacks sixth homer

Joe went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Brewers.

Joe returned to the lineup after sitting Monday and has started nine of Pittsburgh's 12 games in May. He's hit .294 with three home runs, seven runs scored and seven RBI in that span, and he lifted his sixth long ball of the season Monday. Joe should continue to get regular run at both first base and in right field as one of the Pirates' more productive hitters.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Buoyed by progress

Casas (rib) was upbeat Tuesday when discussing the progress he's made while on rehab, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

At the time of his injury, Casas was unsure how his body would respond, but he was enthused when discussing his recovery. "Everything is going well. I'm making a lot of progress," Casas said. "Starting a running progression here in the next couple of days. Should get to start throwing in two or three more days. I've already started lifting. Swinging is probably the last step, because that's a lot of rotation." Casas is currently on the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to return until June 21. While he's been out, the Red Sox have filled first base with a rotation of players that includes Garrett Cooper, Dominic Smith and Romy Gonzalez.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Mashes fifth homer

Olson went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Cubs.

After hitting the ball hard most of the early part of the season with little to show for it, Olson got rewarded for his efforts Tuesday, driving in his first run with a first-inning double that had an exit velocity of 105.2 mph before he belted a three-run bomb off Jameson Taillon in the fourth that left his bat at 108.2 mph. Over the last eight games, Olson is batting .310 (9-for-29) with two of his five homers on the season as he gets back into his 2023 form.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | CHW

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Powers offense in nightcap Tuesday

Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI in a 4-0 win over the Nationals during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

After looking shaky in the matinee by going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, Vaughn's bat roared to life in the nightcap as he crushed a three-run homer off Mitchell Parker in the third inning before adding a solo shot off Jackson Rutledge in the eighth. All three of Vaughn's long balls on the season have come in the last five games, and over his last seven contests the 26-year-old first baseman has gone 9-for-26 (.346) with three doubles and six RBI.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | CLE

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Does a bit of everything

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, two walks and a stolen base during Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.

Naylor took part in the Guardians' six-run second inning, plating Tyler Freeman and Andres Gimenez with a three-run blast. He also swiped his third bag of the campaign and boosted his walk rate to 10.4 percent. The 27-year-old has gone yard five times in his last 10 games and is batting .286 during that stretch.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Logs steal Tuesday

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Angels.

Goldschmidt has gone 6-for-19 (.316) over the last four games, adding three RBI and three runs scored in that span, though he's also struck out 10 times. Any progress is a positive for the first baseman -- he went 0-for-27 over seven games to begin May. On the year, he's at a .205/.287/.282 slash line with three home runs, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored and two steals through 40 contests.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | PIT

    Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Sitting Tuesday

Tellez isn't in the lineup Tuesday versus the Brewers.

Tellez has recorded just one hit across his last 22 plate appearances in an eight-game span. In his absence, Connor Joe will start at first base and bat cleanup.

  • Owen Miller 1B | MIL

Brewers' Owen Miller: Returns to majors

The Brewers recalled Miller from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

With Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) headed for the injured list, Miller will come up from Nashville to give the Brewers additional bench depth. Miller will likely platoon with Jake Bauers at first base while Hoskins is out, though Miller's defensive versatility could allow him to make an occasional start elsewhere.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | MIL

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Lands on IL

The Brewers placed Hoskins on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain.

Hoskins tweaked his hamstring while running to first base during Monday's game against Pittsburgh and had to come out of the game. He'll now miss at least the next 10 days because of his injury, likely spelling more reps at first base for Jake Bauers and Owen Miller, the latter who was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.
