  • Alex Young RP | CIN

Reds' Alex Young: Starting rehab assignment

Young (back) was sent to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Young has been out all season while recovering from low back disc degeneration, but he's finally ready to test things out in game action. The left-handed reliever is on the 60-day injured list, so he won't be eligible to return until late May.

  • Brooks Raley RP | NYM

Mets' Brooks Raley: Needs more recovery time

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Thursday that Raley (elbow) is no longer on track to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "We're going to take it slow [with Raley]," Mendoza said.

Raley was placed on the shelf April 21 with left elbow inflammation, and while Mendoza didn't indicate that the southpaw has experienced any setbacks since being shut down, he doesn't seem to be progressing as quickly as anticipated, either. He'll be sent in for further imaging in the coming days as a precaution, and he could start ramping up his throwing program thereafter. Raley was one of the Mets' top setup men in 2023 and had gotten off to a strong start to 2024 before landing on the IL, striking out nine over seven scoreless innings while allowing just five baserunners and collecting four holds and one win.

  • Caleb Boushley RP | MIN

Twins' Caleb Boushley: Sent back to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Boushley to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Minnesota will wait until shortly before Friday's series opener versus the Red Sox to announce a corresponding roster move, but Boushley will head back to Triple-A just one day after being called up. He didn't appear in long relief Wednesday in the Twins' 10-5 win over the White Sox.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Joins big-league bullpen

The Giants recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Rodriguez, 24, earns the promotion after allowing just two runs with a 10:4 K:BB over 10.2 innings with Sacramento this season. He will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

  • Yohan Ramirez RP | BAL

Orioles' Yohan Ramirez: Booted from 40-man roster

The Orioles designated Ramirez for assignment Thursday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Ramirez is the roster casualty as the Orioles bring back Kyle Bradish (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to start Thursday's contest versus the Yankees. The 28-year-old reliever holds an 8.74 ERA over eight relief appearances this season between the Mets and Orioles.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Secures eighth save

Iglesias gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his eighth save of the season in a 5-2 win over the Mariners.

It wasn't the sharpest appearance for Iglesias, who put two batters on base before getting an out, but he settled down and took care of the heart of Seattle's order without too much more trouble. The right-hander has converted eight of his nine save chances to begin the year while posting a typically stingy 2.19 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but there are signs Iglesias isn't quite in peak form -- his 94.5 mph average fastball is his lowest velocity since 2016, and his 18.0 percent strikeout rate is a massive drop from the 29.4 percent mark he delivered last season. His top velocity Wednesday was 95.3 mph, on a two-seamer to Luke Raley.

  • Fernando Cruz RP | CIN

Reds' Fernando Cruz: Rocked in loss

Cruz (1-2) took the loss against the Padres on Wednesday. He allowed four runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one over a third of an inning.

Cruz entered to start the seventh inning of a 2-2 game but surrendered two singles and a walk before Jake Cronenworth belted a grand slam. The right-hander faced one more batter, striking out Manny Machado, before departing. Other than Wednesday's effort and another in which he walked three batters, Cruz has pitched well over 13 outings. He entered Wednesday with a 1.59 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 11.1 innings.

  • Blake Walston RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Blake Walston: Needed for length in loss

Walston allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Wednesday's 8-0 loss to the Dodgers.

Walston, a starter at Triple-A Reno who made his major-league debut Wednesday, was recalled earlier in the day following Tuesday's surprise bullpen effort that left the club in need of a fresh arm. His length was needed immediately, as starter Jordan Montgomery was ambushed by the Dodgers early. Walston navigated around a walk and two hits over three scoreless frames before running into trouble in the seventh inning. That's when the left-hander's shaky command -- three walks including one with the bases loaded -- caught up to him.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Records ninth save

Clase earned the save over the Astros on Wednesday, striking out one over a perfect 10th inning.

Clase entered the contest with a one-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and needed only five pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-hander has now converted each of his last five save attempts (over nine appearances), posting a 10:1 K:BB over that stretch. He now sports a pristine 0.55 ERA following Wednesday's scoreless appearance.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | WAS

Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Strikes out side for 10th save

Finnegan picked up the save over the Rangers on Wednesday, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.

Finnegan took over in the bottom of the ninth with a 1-0 lead and ran right through the Rangers' lineup, retiring all three batters on swinging strikeouts to secure his 10th save of the season, tying him with Ryan Helsley, Robert Suarez and Clay Holmes for the league lead. The right-hander has successfully converted each of his last nine save attempts and hasn't allowed a hit over his last eight appearances (spanning eight innings), posting a 9:1 K:BB over that stretch. Wednesday also marked his first time this season in which he struck out the side.
