  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Clubs homer in win

Joe went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 13-7 win over the Cubs. Joe opened September with just five hits across 13 games before breaking out of the slump Wednesday. This was his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 24. The 31-year-old is up to 11 homers, 40 RBI, 58 runs scored and 28 doubles through 125 contests this season, all of which are season highs. He's also logged three stolen bases with a .236/.330/.416 slash line across 440 plate appearances.

Alfonso Rivas will start at first base and bat eighth in the series finale.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Sitting Friday

Joe isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Cardinals. After going 0-for-11 across his last three games, Joe will get a day off to regroup. Alfonso Rivas will start at first base, and Josh Palacios will get the nod in right field while Joe sits.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Omitted from lineup

Joe is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Joe started the last nine games for the Pirates, but after going hitless in Sunday's loss to the Cubs he will head to the bench. Joe has been splitting his work between first base and right field, and Alfonso Rivas and Josh Palacios, respectively, will cover those positions Monday.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Three doubles, four runs in rout

Joe went 3-for-4 with three doubles, an RBI and four runs scored in Monday's 11-1 win over the Cardinals. Joe provided a jolt of offense Monday, ripping doubles in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings while crossing the plate four times. The 31-year-old is now slashing .263/.364/.474 with seven doubles, three homers, five RBI and 15 runs scored across 76 second-half plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Hitting streak reaches five games

Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers. Joe hit one of three home runs on the day for the Pirates, with his being a solo shot to left field to begin the fourth. Joe has just two home runs since the beginning of June but has now hit safely in five straight games while picking up an extra-base hit two days in a row. Joe remains in a short-side platoon role at first base with Alfonso Rivas while occasionally picking up starts at DH like he did Sunday.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Gets third straight start

Joe will start at first base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Joe has now picked up three consecutive starts at first base, serving as the Pirates' leadoff man in two of those contests when Pittsburgh has opposed left-handed starting pitchers. With Carlos Santana and Ji-Man Choi having recently been traded away, Joe has a clearer path to playing time at first base, but it's unclear if he'll get a look in a near-everyday role or if he'll have to settle for the short side of a platoon at the position with the lefty-hitting Alfonso Rivas, whom the Pirates acquired from the Padres on Tuesday.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Stuck in short-side platoon

Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Guardians. Joe has slipped into a short-side platoon role since the start of July, as he's started only three of 14 games. That's due in part to the promotion of Henry Davis, but Joe has also slumped considerably. Tuesday's homer was his first since May 30, and since June 3 he has hit only .218 with a 28.6 percent strikeout rate across 87 at-bats.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: On bench again Sunday

Joe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Miami, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Joe finds himself on the bench Sunday after he started Pittsburgh's previous six games. Josh Palacios, Jack Suwinski and Henry Davis will start from left to right in the outfield.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Sitting Saturday

Joe isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday versus Miami. Joe is currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak, slashing .385/.467/.462 in that span. He'll catch a breather Saturday, opening up a spot for Josh Palacios to start in left field and bat in the leadoff spot.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: On bench again Friday

Joe is out of the lineup again Friday against the Brewers. Josh Palacios will make a second straight start in right field with the Pirates facing another right-hander in Julio Teheran. Joe has posted strong overall numbers this year, but he's faring far better against lefties (1.057 OPS) than righties (.663 OPS).

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Sitting against righty

Joe is not in the lineup Thursday against the Cubs. Josh Palacios will cover right field and bat seventh versus the Cubs and right-hander Marcus Stroman. • Pirates' Connor Joe: Gaining playing time versus RHPs

Joe will start in right field and bat third in Sunday's game against the Mets. Joe will make his second straight start versus a right-handed starting pitcher (Carlos Carrasco) and may be moving out of a short-side platoon role and into something resembling a quasi-everyday role. The Pirates' decision to include Joe in the lineup for the second straight game has been most detrimental to infielder Rodolfo Castro, who has been the odd man out while Ji Hwan Bae has moved from center field to second base.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Takes seat Sunday

Joe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Joe has gone 6-for-16 with a home run, three doubles and a stolen base over his last four games, but it's unclear if he'll be able to avoid a short-side platoon role now that Carlos Santana is healthy again and settling back into everyday duties at first base. With Santana back in the fold, Joe will be vying for playing time in the corner outfield with Josh Palacios, who draws the start Sunday versus Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas. Joe has now sat out in two straight matchups against righties.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Day off Friday

Joe is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Cardinals, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Joe will get a day off after he went 5-for-12 with a homer, two doubles, two RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base over a three-game series with the Giants. Josh Palacios will take over in right field and bat eighth in the series opener with St. Louis.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Busy day in blowout win

Joe went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, two runs scored and one steal in Wednesday's 9-4 victory over the Giants. Joe recorded his first game with at least three hits since April 21 and his fourth of the season. The outfielder had one extra-base hit in each matchup of the three-game series versus San Francisco and showed off his versatility by stealing his third bag of the season in the finale. He's slashing .255/.346/.484 across his first 48 games with Pittsburgh and has shown improvements in the power department in 2023 after slugging just .359 over 111 appearances for the Rockies last season. Joe appeared to be falling into a platoon role in mid-May, but he started the final six games of the month with Carlos Santana (back) unavailable.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Clubs sixth homer

Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Giants. Joe's first-inning blast off John Brebbia was the Pirates' lone extra-base hit of the contest. This was Joe's 10th straight game without a multi-hit effort -- he's gone 5-for-33 (.152) with a 3:9 BB:K in that span. He's filled in at first base for Carlos Santana (back) in the last two games, but Joe's lack of consistent hitting could ultimately see him drop back into a short-side platoon role as he served earlier in the month. The 30-year-old is slashing .242/.333/.471 with six homers, 16 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases through 47 contests, though his season numbers were fueled by a strong start to the campaign.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Recaptures regular role

Joe will start in left field and bat third in Sunday's game against the Mariners. Joe appeared to be slipping into a short-side platoon role last weekend, but he's now found himself in the lineup for four consecutive games, with two of those starts coming versus right-handed pitching. He's still hitting just .200 and has struck out 30.9 percent of the time in May, so Joe likely doesn't have a long leash atop the depth chart in a corner-outfield spot.

  • Pirates' Connor Joe: Absent from lineup Tuesday

Joe is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rangers. Josh Palacios will play right field and bat seventh versus the Rangers and tough right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Joe got off to a roaring start this year but has slashed .191/.277/.286 over his last 47 plate appearances.
