Let's take a morning spin around the SEC:

  • Georgia will have nine first-time starters in Saturday's opener against Buffalo. In addition, 11 true freshmen are listed on the three-deep depth chart. They include tailbacks Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, who should get plenty of carries behind sophomore starter Ken Malcome.

  • Auburn defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder is eager to see how well players have grasped his new defense. He says he won't really find out until Saturday's game against Clemson in the Georgia Dome. "I'm anxious on Saturday to see the speed of it, the execution level and those things," he told Al.com.

  • Junior college transfer Deion Belue will start at corner for Alabama opposite Dee Milliner. "He can be a home-run hitter any time," Milliner told Al.com about Belue. "When he catches a pick at practice, he can always run it back. When he did that the first couple of times, I was like, 'OK, he got lucky.' Then he made it a thing he does all the time."

  • Florida offensive coordinator Brent Pease told the Gainesville Sun that quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel "both have done a really good job with how they've handled the situation and how they've progressed." One will start Saturday against Bowling Green and play the first quarter, and the other will play the second quarter. Then coaches will evaluate at halftime how to proceed. Pease and coach Will Muschamp say they have not decided who will start the game.

  • Arkansas' Kiero Small is in for a heavy workload. The senior is the Razorbacks' starting fullback and No. 2 middle linebacker. Injuries have hit the Hogs' linebacking corps hard, so the 5-10, 255-pound Small is likely to play both ways.
