These stories are making headlines across the SEC on Friday afternoon:
- Ole Miss fans finally got some good news when freshman defensive end Channing Ward was declared eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse on Friday. The No. 1 recruit in coach Hugh Freeze's first recruiting class, Ward could play meaningful snaps despite missing so much practice time.
- Five-star defensive tackle Dee Liner, an Auburn commitment, reportedly was suspended indefinitely after he walked out of practice at Muscle Shoals (Ala.) High. Liner was arrested twice in a 10-day period in July. Thursday afternoon, Liner tweeted that he was "so ready to graduate and be at Auburn!"
- The Florida QB duel between Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel is still neck-and-neck, according to offensive coordinator Brent Pease. The OC told the Gainesville Sun he'll give input on the decision but ultimately it's Will Muschamp's call. "It's a probably a little bit more of a 51-49 his decision because he's the head coach."
- Despite freshman Todd Gurley's oustanding scrimmage performances, Georgia's running backs coach says there's no distinction between Gurley and the other three tailbacks. Gurley, fellow freshman Keith Marshall, senior Richard Samuel and sophomore Ken Malcome all are expected to get carries in the Sept. 1 opener against Buffalo.
