Top Senators News

  • Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Summoned from minors

Merilainen was recalled from AHL Belleville on Saturday.

Merilainen will be the Senators' third goaltender in the playoffs, behind Linus Ullmark and Anton Forsberg. Merilainen was outstanding when called upon by Ottawa, going 8-3-1 with three shutouts, a 1.99 GAA and a .925 save percentage across 12 NHL appearances during the 2024-25 regular season.

  • Senators' Artem Zub: Set for postseason debut

Zub (rest) will play in Game 1 against Toronto on Sunday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Zub skated on the top pairing during Saturday's practice after missing the final game of the regular season for rest. He will see his first NHL action in the playoffs after recording two goals, 13 points, 57 shots on net, 118 blocked shots and 58 hits in 56 outings during the 2024-25 regular season.

  • Senators' Thomas Chabot: Ready to rock

Chabot (rest) will return to the lineup versus Toronto on Sunday in Game 1, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Chabot was hot down the stretch, tallying three goals and seven assists during a six-game scoring streak before sitting out Thursday against Carolina. He ended the regular season with nine goals and 45 points in 80 outings.

  • Senators' Tyler Kleven: Pockets helper Thursday

Kleven notched a power-play assist and two hits in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

Kleven also saw ample power-play time, which is a new wrinkle for him, but it's unlikely to last into the playoffs when Thomas Chabot (rest) returns to the lineup. Kleven ended the regular season with three assists over his last nine games. He had a total of 10 points, 78 shots on net, 105 hits, 97 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating over 79 regular-season contests while primarily working on the third pairing.

  • Senators' Jake Sanderson: Earns two power-play assists

Sanderson logged two power-play assists, two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

Sanderson rested in Tuesday's game versus the Blackhawks and then played 28:21 in Thursday's regular-season finale. The 22-year-old defenseman was one of 18 players in the NHL to log at least 30 power-play points this season, which was over half of his total offense. He had 11 goals, 46 assists (including four shorthanded helpers), 195 shots on net, 163 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through a career-high 80 appearances. Sanderson will be the Senators' top overall defenseman in the playoffs, which begin for them with Game 1 on Sunday versus the Maple Leafs.

  • Senators' Shane Pinto: Tallies in win

Pinto scored a goal on two shots and added three hits in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

Pinto has five goals and two assists over his last eight games. The 24-year-old center's offense has improved late in the season, and he ended the regular season with career highs in goals (21), assists (16), points (37) and plus-minus rating (plus-10) over 70 appearances. Even from the third line, he can make an impact on offense, though it's his two-way play that will keep his role stable.

  • Senators' Adam Gaudette: Lights lamp twice in win

Gaudette scored two goals in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

The 28-year-old center opened the scoring midway through the first period, then kick-started a four-goal eruption by Ottawa in the third that erased a 5-3 deficit. It was Gaudette's first multi-point performance since Feb. 3, and his first multi-goal effort since Nov. 27. He wraps up the regular season with 26 points, including a career-high 19 goals, in 81 appearances.

  • Senators' Tim Stutzle: Three points in finale

Stutzle scored a power-play goal and added two assists, one with the man advantage, in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

All three points came in the third period as the Senators erased a 5-3 deficit. Stutzle closes the books on the 2024-25 regular season with three goals and seven points in the final three games, giving him plenty of momentum heading into a Game 1 tilt against the Maple Leafs on Sunday to begin Ottawa's playoff run.

  • Senators' Dylan Cozens: Three-point effort against Canes

Cozens scored a power-play goal and added two assists, one with the man advantage, in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

The 24-year-old heads into the playoffs with a big head of steam, having delivered back-to-back multi-point performances to close out the regular season. Cozens saw his production take a leap after he was shipped to Ottawa from Buffalo at the trade deadline, racking up five goals and 16 points in 21 appearances for his new squad -- including three goals and eight points on the power play.

  • Senators' Drake Batherson: Two goals including GWG

Batherson scored two goals, including the game-winner on the power play, and added an assist with the man advantage in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

Both his tallies came in the third period as the Senators erased a 5-3 deficit. Batherson will take a seven-game point streak into the playoffs, a stretch in which he's collected five goals and four helpers, and he wraps up the regular season with career highs in points (68) and power-play points (31).

  • Senators' Linus Ullmark: Weathers storm for win

Ullmark stopped 28 shots in Thursday's 7-5 win over the Hurricanes.

Ottawa was staring at a 5-3 deficit heading into the third period, but Ullmark shut the door completely in the final frame as his team's offense took control. It was the netminder's fourth straight win to close out the regular season, a stretch in which he posted a 2.01 GAA and .931 save percentage, and Ullmark looks ready for the postseason -- which begins Sunday for the Senators in Toronto.

  • Senators' Brady Tkachuk: Deemed fine by coach

Head coach Travis Green said Tkachuk was fine after leaving Thursday's game versus the Hurricanes for precautionary reasons, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

As alluded to by the precautionary label, Tkachuk's early exit was nothing to be worried about. Look for the captain to be in a top-six role and on the power play when the Senators open the postseason Sunday versus the Maple Leafs.

  • Senators' Brady Tkachuk: Makes precautionary exit

Tkachuk (undisclosed) left Thursday's game versus the Hurricanes for precautionary reasons, Claire Hanna of TSN reports.

Tkachuk missed the previous eight games due to an upper-body injury. He logged three shots on goal, a hit and a minus-2 rating in 10:37 of ice time Thursday. It's possible the Senators just wanted to get him some game action before the playoffs. His status should be updated prior to Game 1 versus the Maple Leafs on Sunday.

  • Senators' Hayden Hodgson: Not ready to return

Hodgson (lower body) won't play in Ottawa's regular-season finale against Columbus on Thursday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Hodgson will complete the regular season with no points, five PIM and seven hits in two outings with Ottawa. He might be healthy for Game 1 of the Senators' first-round series against Toronto on Sunday, but Hodgson probably won't dress in that matchup even if he is an option.

  • Senators' Claude Giroux: Back in action Thursday

Giroux (rest) will play versus Carolina on Thursday.

Giroux got the night off Tuesday against Chicago as the Senators clinched their spot in the playoffs. Giroux has 15 goals and 35 assists in 80 games this season. He will play on the top line, alongside Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle, and should see time on the first power play.

... See More ... See Less
  • Senators' Nick Jensen: Slated to return Thursday

Jensen (rest) is expected to return for Thursday's regular-season finale against Carolina.

Jensen has been out of the lineup in the last two games due to rest purposes, but he should have one more chance to get on the ice before the start of the playoffs. The 34-year-old has made 70 appearances for the Senators this year, racking up three goals, 18 assists, 89 blocked shots and 55 hits while averaging 20:14 of ice time.

  • Senators' Jake Sanderson: Playing Thursday

Sanderson (rest) will return to the lineup versus Carolina on Thursday.

Sanderson sat out Tuesday against the Blackhawks. He is turning into one of the top offensive blueliners in the NHL, as the 22-year-old has 11 goals and 44 assists, including 28 points on the power play, over 79 games this season.
