Top Egor Afanasyev News

  • Predators' Egor Afanasyev: Sent to AHL affiliate

Afanasyev was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Monday.

Afanasyev has been a healthy scratch for five straight contests for the Predators, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. The 23-year-old rookie has gone scoreless through two top-level appearances this season.

  • Predators' Egor Afanasyev: Recalled from minors

Afanasyev was elevated from AHL Milwaukee on Monday.

Afanasyev will switch places with Philip Tomasino, who was sent down in a corresponding move Monday. The 23-year-old Afanasyev has been lighting it up with the Admirals, racking up 21 goals and 21 helpers in 42 games this season. If he gets into the lineup against the Devils on Tuesday, the Russian winger could get a look at a middle-six role and possibly even see some power-play minutes given his offensive upside.

  • Predators' Egor Afanasyev: Records five shots with Admirals

Afanasyev (undisclosed) registered five shots in AHL Milwaukee's 2-1 overtime win against Iowa on Saturday.

Afanasyev has scored twice in five games with the Admirals this season to go with five PIM. The 2019 second-round pick saw action in 17 contests with the Predators last year and should be in contention for the occasional call-up this season as well.

  • Predators' Egor Afanasyev: Returned to minors

Afanasyev was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Afanasyev has appeared in 17 games for the Preds this season in which he garnered one goal, 21 shots and 23 hits while averaging 10:51 of ice time. While the winger could still be brought back up before the team's back-to-back against Minnesota and Colorado on Thursday and Friday, respectively, this could be the end of his 2022-23 campaign at the NHL level. Looking ahead to next season, Afansyev is far from a lock for the Opening Night 23-man roster and may have to split his time between the NHL and AHL once again.
