Hurricanes' Martin Necas: Working through cold stretch
Necas entered the holiday break on a four-game scoring drought.
While that's not a long time to go without a point, it is Necas' longest cold stretch of the 2024-25 campaign. Before his current stretch, he hadn't been held off the scoresheet for more than two consecutive games this campaign. His current drought hasn't done much to dampen what's been an amazing season -- Necas has 14 goals and 44 points through 34 appearances. His next chance to end the slump will come Friday in New Jersey.

Necas' four-game point streak ended in a 3-0 shutout loss to the Senators on Friday. He responded with his 30th helper of the campaign Sunday, setting up Jesperi Kotkaniemi's insurance goal in the third period. This is the second year Necas has reached the 30-assist mark, and he's likely to blow right by his career-high 43 from 2022-23. He's at 44 points, 74 shots on net, 22 hits and a plus-3 rating over 30 contests.

The breakout star snapped a shot through heavy traffic in front of Scott Wedgewood to give the Hurricanes a 4-2 lead late in the third period. Necas has produced six multi-point performances over the last 10 games, and the 25-year-old already has five game-winners on the season -- one short of his career high -- among his 14 goals. Necas scored a power-play goal and delivered an even-strength assist in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Necas set up Eric Robinson's first-period goal and found twine in the early stages of the third frame. However, Seattle responded with two goals in the final 10 minutes to steal the win. Regardless of the final result, this was another strong performance from Necas, who's now posted four multi-point performances across Carolina's last six games. The center has 39 points in just 25 games this season, and he remains one of the most productive forwards in fantasy regardless of format.

Hurricanes' Martin Necas: Takes over NHL scoring crown
Necas had two assists Wednesday in a 4-3 win over the Rangers.
The helpers extended his point streak to four games (one goal, six assists). Necas has been dialed in this season, and his vision was on full display Wednesday. He set up Seth Jarvis on the power play with a cross-ice pass through legs and just off the ice that hit the young forward's blade perfectly. With the points, Necas moved into sole possession of the NHL scoring lead with 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) in 22 games. He's not getting any Hart chatter right now, but he will if he continues to deliver like this. Necas is on pace for 45 goals, 93 assists and 138 points.
