  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: First goalie off Monday

Sorokin was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, signaling that he'll draw the road start against New Jersey.

Sorokin is coming off his first shutout win of the season, as he turned aside all 33 shots he faced against the Rangers on Saturday. He'll attempt to remain effective against a more formidable opponent in the Devils, who have scored 3.40 goals per game this year, which ranks seventh in the NHL.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shuts out division rival

Sorokin saved all 33 shots he faced in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Rangers.

Sorokin's first shutout of the season was a much-needed strong outing after a sluggish start to the year. Overall, the 30-year-old netminder has a 4-4-2 record with a 3.00 GAA and an .893 save percentage across 10 appearances. After three regulation losses to start the year, Sorokin has only one such defeat in his last seven games. His play is trending upward, and if Sorokin can continue to find the win column every other game, he can be trusted again in most fantasy formats. For now, however, it is good to have a backup plan if Sorokin falls back into a slump. His next chance to take the ice is Monday against New Jersey.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set to start Saturday

Sorokin is slated to start Saturday's road game against the Rangers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin has had some early-season struggles, going 3-4-2 with a 3.33 GAA and .879 save percentage over his first nine appearances of the season, but he's still started the majority of the games in the crease for the Islanders. He'll tend the twine in the second half of a back-to-back set Saturday and will have a favorable matchup against the Rangers, who are averaging a league-worst 2.21 goals this season.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shootout loss but signs of life

Sorokin made 24 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss to Boston on Tuesday.

He allowed just one goal in the shootout. Sorokin and the Isles continue to scuffle this season. He's 3-4-2 with a 3.33 GAA and an .879 save percentage in nine starts. That save percentage is 38th in the NHL. His GAA is 55th. Those simply don't compute with Sorokin's career averages of 2.60 GAA and .915 save percentage. There may be some signs of life, though. Sorokin has played four games (1-1-2) with new goalie coach Sergei Naumovs, who successfully coached the netminder in the KHL from 2018-2020. In the four games, Sorokin allowed four goals just once compared to four of his first five games with former goalie coach Piero Greco. You may be able to buy low now before Sorokin really starts to stabilize his game.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Will start Tuesday

Sorokin will get the start for Tuesday's game against the Bruins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin is backing up David Rittich against the Blue Jackets on Sunday, but Islanders head coach Patrick Roy volunteered that Sorokin would be the one between the pipes against the Bruins on Tuesday. The 30-year-old has not been his usual self so far this season, posting just a 3-4-1 record, a 3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage. The Bruins have been off since Saturday's 2-1 win over the Hurricanes.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Sharp in win

Sorokin stopped 22 of 23 shots in Friday's 3-1 win over the Capitals.

Sorokin had allowed seven goals on 47 shots over his previous two outings. He bounced back with a strong performance Friday, which saw him give up nothing more than a Tom Wilson goal off a rebound. Sorokin improved to 3-4-1 with a 3.40 GAA and an .877 save percentage over eight starts. He's still got some work to do to repair the early damage to his numbers, but Sorokin is expected to receive plenty of playing time. The Islanders' next game is Sunday at home versus the Blue Jackets.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Facing Capitals

Sorokin will defend the visiting goal in Washington on Friday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

It has been a tough go for Sorokin this season, as he has allowed three goals on two occasions and four tallies in each of his other five games. Overall, Sorokin is 2-4-1 with a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage over seven starts. The Capitals are 25th in NHL scoring, generating 2.70 goals per game.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Struggles persist Tuesday

Sorokin stopped 17 of 21 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.

Sorokin has allowed at least three goals in all seven of his starts this season, going 2-4-1. He's given up four goals in five of those outings, but he hasn't been worse than that yet. Tuesday's performance was a disappointment since the Islanders took an early 2-0 lead and Sorokin couldn't make it last, though two of the Bruins' four goals against him were on power plays. With a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage so far, Sorokin's best attribute has been ample playing time. David Rittich will start Thursday's road game against the Hurricanes, and it's expected Sorokin will get the nod for Friday's road matchup versus the Capitals.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Get starting nod for Tuesday

Sorokin will be between the pipes on the road versus Boston on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin is undefeated in regulation over his last three outings, going 2-0-1 despite a 3.25 GAA in that span. It's a strong turnaround for the 30-year-old Russian after he lost his first three games of the year. With a back-to-back coming up, David Rittich will get the nod on the road versus Carolina on Thursday before Sorokin is expected back in the crease for Friday's road game against the Capitals.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Solid outing ends with single point

Sorokin made 23 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Sorokin is 2-3-1 with a 3.70 GAA and an .875 save percentage on the season. He gave up four goals in each of his first four games and has surrendered three in each of his last two. Sorokin is one of the league's most talented netminders, but his supporting cast makes statistical excellence a tough call.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Stops 33 shots Tuesday

Sorokin stopped 33 of 36 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Sharks.

Sorokin endured a slow start to the season with three straight losses, but he seems to be turning things around after coming out on top in his last two starts. However, he's still allowed seven goals in those two wins, so he's far from a reliable presence between the pipes. Sorokin has allowed 19 goals on 150 shots across five starts this season, which translates to a 3.90 GAA and an .873 save percentage.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Gets starting nod for Saturday

Sorokin will defend the cage for Saturday's road clash with the Flyers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

While David Rittich gets the nod at home against the Wings on Thursday, Sorokin will get some extra rest before suiting up in the first game of the Isles' four-game road trip. After starting the campaign with three straight losses, the 30-year-old Sorokin has bounced back with wins in each of his last two appearances. Still, the Russian netminder has allowed three or more goals in all five of his outings this year and will need to be significantly better if he is going to reach the 30-win mark for the second consecutive season.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Slated to start Tuesday

Sorokin will draw the home start against the Sharks on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin began the year on a three-game losing streak but ended the skid Saturday against Ottawa, turning aside 29 of 33 shots (.879 save percentage) in a 5-4 victory. He'll make a second consecutive start Tuesday, while David Rittich is expected to tend the twine at home against the Red Wings on Thursday.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Hangs on for first win of season

Sorokin turned aside 29 shots in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

The 30-year-old netminder got beaten four times in the first two periods, but Sorokin slammed the door shut on Ottawa over the final 20 minutes to give the Islanders a chance to mount a comeback. Sorokin has given up exactly four goals in four straight starts to begin the season. However, Saturday marked the first time he got enough offensive support to get into the win column. He has a 1-3-0 record, 4.13 GAA and .861 save percentage.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set for Saturday's start

Sorokin will tend the twine on the road against the Senators on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

It will be David Rittich getting the nod for Thursday's home clash with Edmonton before Sorokin makes his fourth appearance of the year for the Isles. The 30-year-old Sorokin remains winless through this season, going 0-3-0 with a 4.19 GAA and .854 save percentage. If Sorokin continues to struggle, it's possible that Rittich gets more opportunities between the pipes.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Drops third straight start

Sorokin saved 21 of 25 shots in Monday's 5-2 loss to Winnipeg. The Jets' fifth goal was an empty-netter.

Sorokin surrendered two goals in each of the first two periods, including a power-play tally from Nino Niederreiter midway through the first period. Outside of the first 32 minutes, Sorokin then kept the Jets off the scoresheet with the lone goal of the third period being scored on an empty net by Mark Schiefele. Through three starts this season, Sorokin has a 0-3-0 record, a 4.18 GAA and an .854 save percentage. It's an unfortunate start to the year for Sorokin, who made small improvements and won 30 games in 61 regular-season appearances during the 2024-25 campaign. If the 30-year-old's sluggish start continues, it might be tough to start him in standard leagues. For the time being, Sorokin has solid value in fantasy overall, as he should continue to see a large workload in net. He will likely take a breather sometime in the next few contests when newly-acquired David Rittich makes his debut for the team, but Sorokin should see a workhorse load of games over the next few weeks.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Surrenders four goals

Sorokin stopped 25 of 29 shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Capitals.

Sorokin struggled early, allowing the first four goals of the game across 36 minutes. However, he kept the Capitals off the scoresheet in the third period. The 30-year-old netminder has a 0-2-0 record, 4.21 GAA and .860 save percentage through two appearances. It's an unfortunate start to the season for Sorokin, who was one of 10 goalies to reach the 30-win mark last season. Despite the early struggles, Sorokin's is in no danger of ceding his starting role to David Rittich. If the Islanders can strengthen their defensive play in front of Sorokin, he could continue to build upon his solid campaign from last season, giving him upside in all fantasy formats.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Will start Monday

Sorokin will be the Islanders' starting netminder for Monday's contest against the Jets, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports Sunday.

It was an early call for the Islanders well over 24 hours from puck drop: Sorokin will get another chance in net Monday. The 30-year-old has allowed four goals in both of his starts this season, losing both. He'll have another chance to get his first win of the season, but a high-flying Jets offense with seven goals in the opening two games will present a tough task on the other side.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Starting Saturday

Sorokin will guard the home goal against Washington on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin stopped 24 shots in Thursday's 4-3 road loss to Pittsburgh. He will be back between the pipes for the Islanders' home opener. During the 2024-25 regular season, he went 1-1-0 with a 1.53 GAA and a .953 save percentage in two appearances versus the Capitals.
