Johnston's offense continues to come in bursts -- he's produced five multi-point efforts this year, but he's yet to get on the scoresheet more than two games in a row. He's also had just one drought of three contests. The 20-year-old center has picked up nine goals, eight assists, 53 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 22 appearances. Johnston scored a pair of goals on four shots and blocked two shots in Friday's 7-4 loss to the Flames.
Johnston tallied 1:13 into the game to open the scoring and added a second goal in the middle frame. The second-year center has picked up five goals and three assists over his last seven appearances. For the season, he's at nine tallies, seven helpers, 49 shots on net, 12 PIM and a plus-1 rating through 19 contests. Johnston had gone minus-4 over his previous two games, prompting a lineup shuffle for the Stars. Johnston scored a shorthanded goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Jets.
The 20-year-old stole the puck at the Winnipeg blue line early in the second period with an aggressive forecheck before beating Connor Hellebuyck on the short side, giving the Stars a 2-0 lead. Johnston then helped set up Matt Duchene for the eventual game-winner later in the frame. The 2021 first-round pick has had a strong start to his sophomore NHL campaign, racking up five goals and 10 points in 13 games.
