Top Damon Severson News

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Pots pair in win

Severson provided two goals and three shots on net in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Flyers.

Severson sniped two markers early in the game - including the game-winning goal - to give his team a 3-0 lead that would not be relinquished. The 29-year-old defenseman has notched three goals and three assists in his last nine games. Severson has generated nine goals, 26 points and 79 blocked shots through 62 appearances this campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Opens scoring in loss

Severson scored a goal, blocked two shots and went minus-2 in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Avalanche.

Severson has been a bright spot recently, earning a goal and two assists over his last four outings. He opened the scoring Friday, but the Blue Jackets couldn't build off of it. Severson has seven goals, 22 points, 70 shots on net, 70 blocked shots, 41 PIM and a minus-9 rating through 55 contests in his first season with Columbus.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Stays warm with assist

Severson notched an assist and two shots on goal in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.

Severson has warmed up on the Blue Jackets' road trip, collecting four points over his last three games following a six-game slump. The 29-year-old defenseman set up a Yegor Chinakhov tally Sunday that broke up Joey Daccord's shutout bid. Severson has 16 points, 42 shots on net, 53 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 34 appearances in his first campaign with Columbus, serving in a top-four role regularly.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Sets up shortie

Severson logged a shorthanded assist, two shots on goal, two hits, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks.

Severson has picked up three points over his last two games, and he's done that in a variety of situations. The 29-year-old helped out on a shorthanded tally by Alexandre Texier in the second period of Saturday's game. Severson is up to 15 points, 40 shots on net, 53 blocked shots, 26 PIM and a minus-2 rating over 33 appearances this season. He should continue to see top-four minutes and some power-play time.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: One of each in win

Severson scored a goal on two shots, dished a power-play assist and added two PIM in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Flames.

Severson snapped his six-game point drought when he picked off a Jacob Markstrom rim-around and flung it into the net before the Flames' goalie could get back in position. In the third period, Severson also helped out on a Dmitri Voronkov tally. The 29-year-old Severson is up to 14 points, 38 shots on net, 52 blocked shots, 24 PIM and a minus-4 rating through 32 outings with the Blue Jackets in his first year with the team. He'll need a strong and healthy second half to have a chance at his sixth 30-point campaign.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Two helpers in OT win

Severson notched two assists in Friday's 6-5 overtime win over the Maple Leafs.

His breakout pass to catch Toronto on a bad line change led to a Brendan Gaunce tally in the second period. Severson also set up Johnny Gaudreau's OT winner. The points were the first for Severson in three games since returning from an oblique injury. He didn't see any meaningful power-play time Friday after Zach Werenski (ankle) was placed on IR because Ivan Provorov handled duties on the first unit instead. Without ice time on the man advantage, Severson's fantasy value is limited.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Returns to action Saturday

Severson (oblique) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup Saturday versus Toronto, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.

Severson missed 15 games with the injury. He will replace Jake Bean in the lineup and is expected to see second unit power-play time. Severson had two goals and three points in three games before getting hurt. He has eight points, 21 shots on goal and 35 blocked shots in 19 games this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Set to play before break

Severson (oblique) is expected to play in one of the Blue Jackets' next two matches, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports Wednesday.

Severson evidently won't have to wait until after the Christmas break, returning to action against either the Capitals or Maple Leafs on Thursday or Saturday, respectively. Through 19 games this season, the blueliner has registered three goals and five assists, including one power-play point. Despite the missed time, Severson should still be capable of reaching the 30-point threshold for the third straight season.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Placed on injured reserve

Severson (oblique) was put on injured reserve Thursday.

Severson is expected to miss another five weeks of action after he was injured Nov. 19 versus the Flyers. Severson has three goals, five assists, 21 shots on goal and 35 blocked shots in 19 games this season. A return in early January is likely for the 29-year-old blueliner.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Set to miss about six weeks

Severson is expected to be out of action for approximately six weeks due to an oblique injury.

Severson was injured in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Philadelphia. He has produced three goals, five assists, 21 shots on net and 35 blocked shots in 19 appearances this season. Adam Boqvist could receive an expanded role during Severson's absence.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Exits Sunday's contest

Severson (upper body) will not return to Sunday's game against Philadelphia.

Severson posted a minus-1 rating and one hit in 9:57 of ice time before leaving the game. The 29-year-old has been a solid contributor on the blue line this season, tallying three goals, eight points, 35 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating through 19 games. An update on his status should be available before Wednesday's tilt with Chicago.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Scores twice against Yotes

Severson scored two goals on three shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Arizona.

Severson never had a two-goal performance in 81 games with the Devils last season, scoring seven goals on the year. Given his limited goal scoring, fantasy players should probably be expecting extended slumps for Severson like the seven-game scoreless stretch he just ended with Thursday's performance.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Scores first goal of season

Severson scored his first goal of the season in Monday's 5-3 road loss against the Stars.

Severson scored on his only shot attempt of the game, helped out by Adam Fantilli and Zach Werenski in the first period, giving Columbus a 2-1 lead at the time. He also finished with four blocked shots in his 21:46 of ice time. He led all Columbus defensemen with 2:09 of time on the power play, too. That being said, he still has rather minimal fantasy appeal, with Werenski outranking Severson on the Blue Jackets' overall depth chart.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: First points of season

Severson put up two assists in a 5-4 overtime win over the Wild on Saturday.

His recent benching seems to have had its desired outcome. The points are Severson's first on the season. Two seasons ago, Severson put up 46 points. He might not be that kind of scorer in Columbus, but he should be better than the 33 points he put up last season.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Benched in Monday's loss

Severson didn't see a shift in the third period of Monday's 4-0 loss to the Red Wings, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

The former Devil wound up seeing only 11:57 of ice time after topping 21 minutes in each of his first two games of the season. Severson finished the contest with a minus-2 rating, and no points, hits or blocked shots, but he was far from alone in having a bad night. Coach Pascal Vincent is still trying to find a lineup combination that provides a consistent effort, but Severson's benching is likely only temporary given Columbus' other blue line options, especially with Zach Werenski (quadriceps) unavailable.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Two helpers Monday

Severson collected two assists in Monday's 5-3 preseason win over the Blues.

Picked up from the Devils in the offseason to bolster the Blue Jackets' blue line, Severson is in line for major minutes in Columbus, although he'll be behind the likes of Zach Werenski and Adam Boqvist for power-play time. However, neither one was in the lineup Monday, allowing Severson to flash the skills that led to 11 goals and 46 points in 80 games two seasons ago. Expect the 29-year-old to deliver something more like the seven goals and 33 points in 81 games that he produced in 2022-23 during his first campaign with the Jackets.

  • Blue Jackets' Damon Severson: Dealt to Columbus

Severson agreed Friday with the Devils on an eight-year, $50-million contract and was subsequently traded to the Blue Jackets in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Chris Johnston of TSN reports.

Severson was eligible for free agency next month, but the only way Severson was getting an eighth year on his contract was if the Devils signed him. New Jersey picks up the 80th pick in the draft for a player they evidently weren't going to retain. Severson is the second blueliner in the last three days to be traded to the Blue Jackets after the team acquired Ivan Provorov on Tuesday. Severson had seven goals and 26 assists in 81 regular-season games with New Jersey in 2022-23.

  • Devils' Damon Severson: Continues to shine

Severson registered an assist in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Sabres.

Severson was the secondary distributor on the Devils' first goal; a little chip shot from Yegor Sharangovich. The 28-year-old Severson has been a model for consistency, as he's compiled two goals, eight assists and a plus-6 rating through 13 games this month, and he missed the scoresheet in just four of those contests.
