  • Ted Ginn: Ending career

Ginn announced Friday that he has elected to retire from professional football, Stephen Means of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Ginn will call an end to a 14-year career that included stops with the Dolphins, 49ers, Panthers, Cardinals, Saints and Bears. During his prime years, Ginn was one of the best returners in the league while also contributing as a deep threat on offense. Ginn finishes his career with 412 receptions for 5,742 yards and 33 touchdowns along with 6,899 kick return yards, 2,624 punt return yards and seven total return scores (four punts, three kickoffs).

  • Ted Ginn: Cut loose by Chicago

The Bears waived Ginn on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Signed to a one-year, $1.19 million deal in April, Ginn played 43 percent of the offensive snaps in the Bears' season-opening win over the Lions, but he's seen his usage plummet ever since. The wideout has been inactive twice over the Bears' subsequent seven games while playing fewer than 10 percent of the offensive snaps in three other contests. The Bears weren't able to find any takers on the trade market for the 35-year-old, so he'll now be cut loose as the team prioritizes its younger depth options at receiver.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Inactive in Week 8

Ginn (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 8 tilt against the Saints.

The veteran receiver therefore will be unavailable to face his former teammates in Sunday's home contest. Ginn has logged six targets through six games, and the availability of Allen Robinson (concussion) and Cordarrelle Patterson (quadriceps) appears to have played a part in saddling Ginn with his first inactive designation this season.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Minimal role Week 7

Ginn wasn't targeted during Monday's 24-10 loss to the Rams.

The 35-year-old played only four offensive snaps, with his most notable contribution of the evening being watching Rams' punter Johnny Hekker pinning the Bears inside their own 20-yard line on all five of his boots. Ginn has played single-digit offensive snaps in each of the past four games and clearly has no worthwhile role in the passing attack.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Targeted twice

Ginn caught two passes for 11 yards in Chicago's 19-11 loss to the Colts on Sunday.

Although Ginn caught both of his targets, he's caught just three passes for 40 yards on the season, giving him very little fantasy value unless his role changes significantly.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Posts first reception of season

Ginn caught one pass for 29 yards in the Bears' 30-26 victory over the Falcons on Sunday.

After being a healthy scratch in Week 2, Ginn was targeted three times as the Bears spent most of the game clawing back from a large deficit. Unless his role in the offense drastically increases, his fantasy value will be minimal.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Healthy scratch in Week 2

Ginn is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Ginn was on the field for nearly half the plays the Bears ran in Week 1, but he did not catch a pass, and he will not in Week 2 either. No injury has been reported for Ginn, so he is presumably a healthy scratch for Sunday's game, and is no longer a starter like he is listed as on the Bears' depth chart.

  • Bears' Ted Ginn: Shut out in opener

Ginn was targeted once in Chicago's 27-23 win over the Lions on Sunday.

After joining the Bears on a free-agent deal in the offseason, Ginn saw seven of his teammates targeted more than he was. Unless he sees his role in the offense increase quickly, he'll be a difficult player to trust on fantasy rosters.
